Memorial Stadium Getting a Facelift?

The stadium was built in 1923 and obviously has been renovated a bunch over the years. If the product were better on the field and the pandemic hadn't happened, I'd be curious to know if building a completely new stadium was out of the question. I'm sure that I'm alone on this but I'd rather they plan to build a new stadium within the next 10-20 years instead of spending money on modernizing the existing stadium. I think it'd be an easier pitch for fundraising etc given the stadium's age.
they went to great lengths to keep alot of the historical east side...I just hope they made the correct measurements to connect the east and west side if they go horseshoe someday on the south side.

trev should get the old red "N" on that was on the west side and restore it...it's in a barn somewhere.
hang that right over the "N"il offices...

Oh for sure, it's impossible to do it in 9 months. The only way to build a new stadium would be to move it to a different site and use the existing stadium until the new one is complete. Then demolish it after that and let the university use that land for something else. Obviously with all the recent additions, it seems very, very unlikely to happen any time soon which is why I mentioned it being more of a longer term goal.

One benefit to an off-campus location would be more parking and tailgate options and ideally a bunch of restaurants, retail locations and hotels nearby, similar to what the Braves have done. Just seems like it would be easier to build a modern stadium with everything you want amenities wise than having to try to retrofit a stadium whose bones are a 100 years old. But like I said, I'm probably alone on this.
Easier getting this accomplished if Lincoln was a NFL stadium which it isn’t.. There is a reason why cities build new stadiums for their pro teams.

Besides Minnesota and Baylor I don’t know of any other universities who built a new football stadium.. Very rare…

That was my initial thought too but it seems to be a newer trend over the last few years, mostly among smaller schools. Just seems inevitable with the explosion of basketball arenas the last 10 years or so.

I’m still trying to figure out what their going to use the current football facility for, it has the weight room, locker rooms, hydrotherapy pools and meeting rooms that ended up be to small with all the walk-on players..

I would start improvements by having the team inside it win 50 to 70% of the time near term and 80 to 90% of the time in a few years. Then I'd add a racing stripe to the side of the stadium for aerodynamics. If we can't meet the first standard, then we'll have to add booze to the mix.
