Not really a surprise. When we got him, a friend that is an Omaha coach said not to expect much from him if anything. I was hoping he was being too critical of the kid and that he would’ve grown into a better player. It's official now.
I have zero insights into any the level of truth behind the internet fodder on Coleman's desire or commitment to play. However, I don't envy Rhule or any coach for that matter, who has to wrestle with how hard they are going to pursue signing the top recruit in this state if there truly are non-talent concerns involved. The fear of the PR backlash of not doing so probably trumps all else.
I can’t imagine any major P4 coach not recruiting the #1 player in their state. I don’t have the numbers on this, but I’m willing to bet that 80% of top players (state) end up being highly productive D1 players. (If I’m off on that then feel free to show me) Sucks that Coleman didn’t pan out, maybe he will elsewhere, but that doesn’t mean recruiting him was a mistake. You almost have to recruit the #1 player in your state.
Heard this long ago and it may be true in this case... some kids don't have a Power Five mentality. I think going down a level would do him some good.Wish the kid well. Seems like a good kid, maybe he will thrive at the G5 or lower level.
Skills wise, I did not see him anywhere near a polished P4 WR.
We do however, need to get one in the portal for sure.
I think he was rated #1 in Minnesota by somebody. Can't remember. And he was getting some looks from other places-- maybe Iowa State, for sure some MAC schools. He had great stats in HS, broke a lot of long runs. When he signed, I told myself this was just another late filler to the class-- a Pelini and Frost special. Well, I have been wrong ever since. I remember watching him play against Michigan last year. He was getting something out of nothing. He sold me then. He's been our best back ever since. Now it's obvious to everybody. Was Emmett Johnson the number 1 player in Minnesota? I think he was Gatorade POY maybe. I don't think he was offered from Minnesota. Could be wrong tho...

You just said it. He is tall and athletic. That can’t be taught. If they could have gotten him to buy in and if he is teachable, the tall and athletic would have been huge bonuses.I never understood the hype on this kid. He is tall and athletic. He was a great track star. He caught like 10 passes in high school and wanted nothing to do with playing football.
Shirley Fidone may be saying “hello.” 😉Just ONCE, I'd love a kid to be honest on their parting instagram...
"I GOT SHAFTED!!! THIS PLACE STINKS!! I HOPE A METEOR HITS HERE AND DESTROYS THE WHOLE PLACE!!!"
THAT'S what I want to read...

playing P5 football as you know takes a tremendous amount of want to. I'm not sure from what I've seen that he had that. You just said it. He is tall and athletic. That can’t be taught. wasn't he "Mr. Football" in Minnesota? Not sure if that equates to #1 recruit though.I didn’t think he was the overall #1 rated player out of Minn, but I don’t remember who was? He was definitely the Gatorade offensive player of the year though. Maybe someone else remembers exactly how that all went. Either way, I’m sure they’d like to have him on their team.
Emmett was the 10th best recruit in the state according to TOS. TE Chase Androff, another Nebraska recruit was ranked ahead of him at #5 in the state, hasn’t seen the field.I think he was rated #1 in Minnesota by somebody. Can't remember. Certainly that looks to be the case, but his offer list was underwhelming and neither the Gophers nor Hogeyes went after him. The big programs wanted Abdullah at DB, and he ended up in Lincoln. His position coach was Ron Brown, who signed EJ.If I'm not mistaken he was also the MVP of the state all star game as well. EJ was legit...

Androff left the program prior to the start of the 23 fall camp. Bixby transferred this past summer to Minnesota-Duluth.Emmett was the 10th best recruit in the state according to TOS. TE Chase Androff, another Nebraska recruit was ranked ahead of him at #5 in the state, hasn’t seen the field.
The #1 recruit was 4 star DL Trey Bixby who went to Minnesota.
I just heard about this... wowShirley Fidone may be saying “hello.” 😉
my best friend did an appraisal on her home. she told him she really tried hard to get him to go to LSU.Shirley Fidone may be saying “hello.” 😉
He was recruited on his measurables. There is a reason on signing day his commitable offers were few and far between.I never understood the hype on this kid. He is tall and athletic. He was a great track star. He caught like 10 passes in high school and wanted nothing to do with playing football.

He's a great athlete. Not really a great football player. They had to recruit the kid . Felt like if they could develop him they would have unique size/speed ratio. NFL type bodyband measurable. Unfortunately if true he doesn't have the want to to match his physical talent. Hard to play this game at a high level without it.
I wish the kid well. Wish it had worked out for him here but it is what it is.
