Looks like Kaepernick will lose starting job to Gabbert

I will never cheer for that POS again or any team he is associated with. To me that disrespects every Soldier, Sailor and Marine that has ever served. I respect his right to express his opinion but this country affords him many opportunities and there are better ways. Countless people of color have served and died for us and he should at least respect that.

I'm a 49ers fan and used to be a Kaepernick fan, though his play and attitude these last few years has kind of diminished that second part. After seeing that, I'm done with him and if he is the starter, I probably won't be cheering for the Niners this year.

I totally support his right to protest. However, with a black man at the top of our country he really needs to redirect his ire elsewhere. You can fight for policy change without disrespecting your country. We live in a democratic republic that guarantees freedom of speech. Use it.

After thinking about this for a few...didn't he want or demand a trade earlier? Do I have that right? Perhaps this is his way of forcing their hand? I recognize his right to act like an ass, totally his right, but it's also my right to call him what he is, an ass, and am I the only one who finds it strange that when the Niners were winning and he didn't suck ass, that we never heard this side of him before? Weird coincidence for sure.

I am a 49er fan also, and hope they cut him. How is not standing for the anthem going to motivate social change? This is more about being unhappy with his current personal situation, then it is about trying to make a difference. He's trying to leverage his way out of town. I hope it works!

His right to make a scene and use that as his protest is his. The right of the team to not start him or cut him is also their right.

I'm not a 49er fan and this won't change that one bit. He has a great deal of talent but doesnt loom or sound those gifts that he has worked on to improve them is a priority for him as much currently.

Without totally changing this, and mods if it does please delete this part or the whole post, but what solutions does he want to Improve what he is protesting about?

Choosing between those 2 qb's is like choosing between chicken crap & horse sh!+. Just sayin

Never understood why the national anthem was played before games..Super Bowls, Finals World Series I get ...McNeese St vs SW Louisiana I dont ....just start the game already...Kap has every right to feel the way he does and with guaranteed money its not as big of a stance as its being made out to be

The problem isn't just the stance... It's his words that accompanied the stance. No country is perfect, every country has skeletons... But to come out and say what he said is a little over the top, don't you think?

Is anyone in this thread an African American? I think many of them probably agree with CK. The problem he is protesting is serious and real. And perhaps as a privileged millionaire African American, he felt a duty to speak for those who have no voice.
Or... Maybe he is an immature jerk cynically manipulating an important issue in order to force a trade. Who knows?
But I profoundly disagree that sitting for the anthem as an act of protest is a disrespectful slap to our vets. They fought for freedom of expression. They fought for his right to engage in an act of moral conscience. Or his right to be an ass. You pick

Just can't seem them trotting him out as a starter after this...

The only form of portest that is acceptible to many on here is that which doesn't impact anyone's lives in any way while also not making anyone feel uncomfortable; in other words: ineffective. This guy has had strong opinions for quite some time and is in a position of power with a unique opportunity to effectuate change. Protesting is patently an American thing to do and he didn't hurt anyone. Get over it or, better yet, maybe think about whether any of what he says has merit.

US olympic pole vaulter stops mid run-up when he hears national anthem

There are so many people in the ground, who died for this country. To not honor them by getting off your ass when the national anthem is played is shameful. If you don't like it then quit your overpaid child's game job and leave the country. Standing is the least you can do.

I wish people such as this bum would leave the country that so oppresses you. Go to what're ever country you want, see what your "rights" are. He talks big, getting those big million dollar pay checks, he won't do a damn thing except for his own selfish ass.

I hope he gets planted many, many times this season by folks that appreciate their blessings.

Nonsense. Protesting is as American as saluting a flag. Our county was founded on protest and freedom of speech. We're not freakin' Nazi's who have to swear an oath or salute a flag to be considered good Americans. There's nothing wrong with doffing your hat and placing your hand over your heart for the national anthem. Requiring it is fascism. You don't have to agree with the man's protest. You may even find it to be offensive. That doesn't make him any less American and require him to leave our country because you don't agree with his politics.

Johnny Manzel has a better chance of getting picked up by another team than this disrespectful nut job... When San Francisco doesn't want you..well were do you go??? Finished..Maybe the Marines would take him and make him a MAN....

Exactly boxes that is why I can say he is a f'n dick and hope keeps sucking ass. I hope he gets traded to Chicago so he can stop the bob crime, that is where they are oppressed, by their own people!

If he wants to sit, he has that right. That's what it means to be an American. I get that.

What I struggle with is the why. Pennsy, absolutely, not being African American prevents me from understanding where he's coming from. No doubt there are challenges in this country that are very real. What I'm struggling with is the attitude, on both sides I might add, that leads to greater division rather than coming together to address the issues. Maybe that's a pipe dream I'm having, but I get tired of this kind of rhetoric that makes everything black and white (seriously, no pun intended) when there are so many shades of gray. I don't think his words are going to bring any unity. Too inflammatory to me and likely to many others.

i don't know what the answer is, but I'm not sure this is the activism that's gonna bring change... I probably don't see it, though, because I'm white.

Are with this whole movement and him deciding to sit instead of stand, has anyone offered any actual solutions to this problem that yes is real and yes is also a small part of the actual harm being done to the African American or black community on a daily basis by other African American or black Americans. Look at the numbers yes there are issues going on between the cops and law enforcement in general and the minority Community. But the same problem applies I don't even know how many times more direct impact by members of their own race. Let's look at fixing the problem instead of protesting and protesting and creating more violence and not less. Nope I'm a white guy born and bred in North Omaha got to see a lot of it apparently from a distance because my skin color doesn't allow me to feel that experience. But I got to see a lot of it towards my friends and towards people that I knew and it sucked. And when I had the opportunity to stand up to stop it I did. I wasn't always successful and I didn't know we do it in the right way but it's something that needs to be addressed with Solutions not just protesting. And as far as cap he's making a lot of money let's take a look and see where the actions follow up with his words. What is he truly doing to help members of the community his community and the larger Community around him. If he's doing it good then all the better for him. If he's not well then maybe he should start let his actions match his words something we can all actually strive for. Having our actions match our words and our heart.

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

We can argue until the cows come home wiether or not his opinion is based on facts or not, but it is his personal opinion. If he feels that strongly about it then he should sit.

As a white middle class male, when I see the American flag I think of my grandpa storming the beaches of Normandy. I think September 11th, 2001 and all the great men and women who haved died so I have the ability to live in and raise a family in the greatest country on earth.

But it also makes sense to me why a African American could look at that same flag as the flag in top of a slave ship. Native Americans can look at that flag as the one a foriegn people flew as they commited genocide to their ancestors.

Part of what makes this country great is that we have the freedom of speech. I believe that freedom is worth defending, especially when that opinion goes against the majority.

I hear what you're saying, but in light of what was happening to his position, it rings a little hollow in the sincerity dept. I don't have a problem with protests for the most part, but most of the time - they do the opposite of what was intended.

Muhammad Ali was thrown in jail for "draft dodging" and when he died people were considering him a hero for standing up for what he believes in.

I agree with you about the sincerity, however you and I are in no position to judge whose acts of civil rights are sincre or not.

What POS, Kap is really so petty and so dense that he can't even stand up and honor all of those who fought and died so he can play a f***ing game poorly and make an exorbitant amount of money doing it? For Pete's sake Usain Bolt a BLACK FOREIGNER cut an interview short so that he could pay respect to our country and our athletes when they received their medals and listened to our national anthem.

I really can not fathom him saying that African Americans are oppressed in this country. They can do and be anything that they want and in many cases are given preferential treatment to achieve their goals. He's an idiot....and I've been rooting for him to succeed for years.

Get over yourself you spoiled punk! He has no idea what oppression is, just look outside the US and you will see real oppression. My father and grandfathers fought for this greatest nation and if this brat feels so oppressed within it, move out! Millions of people from around the world that are actually oppressed would gladly take your spot...take your millions and move out.

I wanted to clarify one thing, at least from my point of view. I see it mentioned a little bit here, and also elsewhere, and it's something that always bothers me a little, and it's talking about "rights". I see people that say "he has a right to do what he did" and what not, and I get tired of people getting what someone has the "right" to do mixed up with what someone "should" do.

Of course he had a "right" to sit during the anthem. For all that "rights" or any sort of law is concerned, he could have hopped on one-foot and quacked like a duck if he wanted to during the anthem, and wouldn't have broken any law or other rules. The point isn't rights, it's what you should do. There are times to make a protest, and there are times to show some respect, and the playing of the national anthem is the latter. I saw someone comment that they think it's stupid we play the national anthem before every game. I disagree, but you are certainly within your "rights" to hold that point of view, as I am just as well within my "rights" to hold the opposite point of view. However, regardless of your views on if the national anthem should be played before a game; and regardless of how many times you have had to stand (or sit) through a performance of the national anthem, as any athlete or person who has attended a lot of games would have done quite a few times, you still take that small amount of effort to show a little respect.

As for his comments about why he sat, give me a break. Again, you are certainly within your "rights" to hold whatever point of view you want on the topic of race relations in this country, but using the word "oppress" is so far over the top, you've lost sight of it. An oppressed people don't have a member of their race as president of the country supposedly oppressing them. They aren't allowed to block traffic and generally make anyone who doesn't explicitly support them live's a living hell with little to no consequence in a country that supposedly oppresses them. They aren't allowed, while making millions of dollars doing something they are mediocre at best at, to act like a petulant child and dishonor their country, in a country that supposedly oppresses them.
