Looking Ahead: Michigan State

In all likelihood, they will be undefeated coming into Lincoln, which intrigues the hell out of me. We play like we played at Minnesota and we've got a great shot.

I really like this team's chance of winning out the remainder of the season. Banker has the D finally moving in the right direction/ No one is running on this team and the pass defense is improving each week out. Langsdorf appears committed to running the call and playing to our strengths.

I think people forget you are never as bad as your worst performance and never as good as your best performance.

Does Banker really have the D moving in the right direction..or did he just play the 80th ranked offense in the country? Miami was able to run on Nebraska and I can assure you there are plenty of other teams that could also. Pass defense has continued to be a major liability. They are still ranked dead last in the country.

The good news is, outside of Sparty, no one Nebraska faces really has a very formidable offense, so while I anticipate the D will continue to struggle, if the offense can put up 30+ (which I believe they have the capacity of doing), they may just win out.

I wouldn't place high odds on this, but it is not without reason.

We have yet to see Nebraska's best performance

I dont think NU has put together their best game by a longshot. The defense has a long ways to go to reach it's potential.

The obvious question mark is our pass defense. Leidner looked really good most of the game. What will Cook do to us?
Unless we figure it out in the secondary, he will light us up - especially if we give him a lot of time to find his targets.

Cook is a 50% passer.. his best throws are on 3rd down. Play good 3rd down defense and we win. 27-24

He is a career 58% passer, which was a bit surprising to me. But make no mistake, if we don't get our DBs on the same page in the next few weeks, we are going to get roasted by MSU.

I think Langsdorf is very itchy to throw the ball. It worked last week because there was no wind. He can't help himself, he must throw some passes whether it's warranted or not. I wish Riley would call the plays because Langsdorf is inexperienced at playcalling.

Are we even sure Langsdorf is calling the plays? I would think he is getting a lot of input from Riley and whomever is in the booth.

What do you consider our best performance, and what do you consider our worst performance?

I do believe some teams just match up well against others, and that works in Nebraska's favor against Sparty this year. Nebraska has seemingly played them straight up for several years running now, with the main exception being a game in which the team turned the ball over seemingly every other possession.

They will need to get off to a good start, however and maybe force a turnover or two to get this team playing at a higher level. This could be one of those Riley specials where he can get his team to put the pieces together and pull off the upset.

Always optimistic, but will remain cautious on this one.

Sparty does look like they will lose a game (or two) down the stretch. They just don't have the same swagger they've had previously - partially due to a downgrade in their running back and also don't discount the loss of DC Narduzzi.

I think the spread will come out with Michigan State favored by 7.

It will be MSU by 3.5/4. It will be interesting to see if MSU fares better against Riley than they did against Pelini. Pelini played the Spartans tougher than any other coach not named Urban Meyer.
