LNK airport has new destinations

Lol good ****ing luck. This has disaster written all over it. Legacy airlines can’t even staff right now. No one will be applying to global crossing. The airline operating these flights currently has 2 passenger aircraft. No way this takes off. It’s going to be non stop cancelations and lengthy delays…if it happens.

Article says they have a fleet of airbuses. So does this mean I have a fleet of balls?

I guess so lol. They have 10 others but those are dedicated to freight. Money is in freight and for a company like that I don’t see them paying for the conversion back to passenger config. Airbus has a massive order sheet and is behind on deliveries so I don’t see them buying/acquiring any soon. Unless they hit the used market. Still have to staff them…and when every reputable carrier is hiring anyone and everyone it’s going to be hard to staff mechanics, flight attendants and pilots.

Yeah I'm not getting on one of those planes. You guys can be the guinea pigs. What kinds of pilots and mechanics are the going to be able to hire right now? Especially if they are only charging $59 each way?

I am with you on this one. I would not step on one of their planes. Our local airport was killed by Covid and the pilot shortage. Before Covid we had 3 daily flights in and out of SeaTac Airport with an extra flight on busy days. All were operated by Horizon Airlines, a subsidiary of Alaska Airlines. Their fleet for a very long time were made up of DeHavilland Dash 8 turboprop planes that held about 70 passengers. Now they are flying a regional jet, an Embracer 175. Since Covid we only get one midday flight in and out that is completely useless. Too late to catch most outbound planes from SeaTac and too early for most inbound flights to SeaTac. That leaves you with a 2 1/2 drive over 2 mountain passes with lots of snow in the cold months. If I am flying to the Western cities; Denver, Phoenix, Vegas, San Diego I drive the 2 1/2 hours across the wheatfields to Spokane

Doo Dah wichita, ks has more flights, nicer airport than both Lincoln & Omaha.
Why is this??

They operate 5 Airbus A320 aircraft for passenger service and three A321 cargo, per another report I saw. They're using a 150-seat A320 all-economy configuration. The operating charter company already flies Cuba-Miami flights.

Also, no offense, but lololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololol to the suggestion that cargo operations make more than passenger commercial service. You can definitely make money in cargo operations, but you make far, far more in passenger service.

It’s over 3 hours from the Kansas City airport and has a population of almost 100k more than Lincoln. Whereas Lincoln is about an hour from Eppley.
(Edit: This was only referring to why Witchita would have more frequent and numerous flight options than Lincoln to be clear)

I have lived in S.E. Nebraska all my life and staring down the barrel of 60.
Other than merely driving through without stopping I have never been to, or tempted, or had the slightest reason to go to Wichita. I've heard of friends going to little kids sports tournaments but that's it. Is there anything there? Anything at all?
Same with Oklahoma City. Big town but it lives in relative anonymity. You don't see it on arrival and departure screens in airports because no one on earth would have reason to go there.

We should have not sunk all this money into Epply renovations. We should have built a large new one between Omaha and Lincoln. Set it up to be able to grow into international if needed.

Kansas City did it right.
Yes, You have to be forward thinking with airports. Building a new airport near the Platte to service both Cities probably would have been smarter long term. Nebraska's leaders are usually about 20 to 25 years behind when it comes to visionary thinking as a state.

Last year Omaha ranked 60th among U.S. airports in passengers moved. Wichita ranked 101st.

Omaha has about 60 departures per day. If Wichita has more than that, a large percentage must be crop dusters.

Wichita's air service is notoriously awful.

EDIT: I counted today's departures - there were 64 from Omaha and 32 from Wichita.

Sooooooo close to not being completely full of shit.

It depends on if they are subsidized or not.
Some of the rural airports get over $400 per passenger, so that $59 rate is closer to $500. Throw in free parking and I know where people are driving in from a larger airport to smaller one because it costs less.

That goes both ways. Just had friends drive to KC to fly to Mexico because it was direct and total travel time (including drive time) was way less.

Omaha has like 6 direct flights with Southwest. It’s such a pain to get anywhere.

Never been to either place to date so no idea. I was merely pointing out why it would make sense that Witchita would have more air service than Lincoln is that it's a larger city further from its home state's largest airport.

The FAA dictates the guidelines. These aren't rogue pilots that are going to do loup-d-loos or forget to gas up.
Correct. Typically regional jets are crewed with less experienced (still meet qualifications) pilots. It’s a good stepping stone to the larger transport aircraft (think entry level type). Now you’re going to have them hired straight into companies like this. Crew experience is going to be way down. It’s happening all over, but will be felt more so at non major type carriers (like this one).

Wichita served 1.3 million passengers in 2021 Omaha served 4.5 million.
Chicago has 105 million annually (O'Hare and Midway) despite the fact no one in their right mind should ever fly to Chicago willingly.
But if Omahan's want to brag about their airport, I would center on parking. For an airport as small as it is they must have 3 parking spots for every millennial in existence when you add up theirs and the commercial lots nearby.
Now, Mr. Wichita, how many parking spaces do you have?

Or you can almost say, Lincoln doesn't really have an airport. The announcement is a big help as the choices right now are embarrassing for a city its size.

Omaha's airport is right where Omaha's corporate powers want it. Few other cities have an airport ten minutes away from the city's primary corporate offices and downtown hotels. I get why Lincoln people might want it closer to Lincoln, but easy access to the airport from downtown is a major selling point for a city that needs something to set it apart from the myriad of other cities among which businesses and conferences could select. Omaha/Lincoln is never going to be a hub for an airline, so no point in spending hundreds of millions on an airport to handle millions of passengers. Besides, where are you going to put the 4,000 acre bath tub, if you build an airport there.

Omaha's airport, heck, Wichita's airport, and for that matter most any airport is superior to Chicago as you don't have to fly over Gary Indiana, the most embarassing stain on the U.S. map.

"Coach Rhule and Coach Cook were among those most excited for Lincoln Airport's new flights"

Orlando, Dallas, Austin and Atlanta are for recruiting

Las Vegas is for yearly B1G championship appearances

Nashville is for trying THAT in a small town

Minneapolis will go away after Thursday when it’s clear that game will no longer be a contest.

Didn't Red Way just announce ceasing operations out of LNK at the end of the month??

Flying is not exclusive enough
Every time I fly I think, ‘where did all these hillbillies in pajama pants come from?’ It’s not that hard to put on clothes to go in public. But the airport apparently means you can wear any cartoon laden PJs you want. And showering seems to be optional.

I think maybe I should dress up in suit and tie like they used to back in the day. Our youth needs to be shown better examples.
