It's a new 1st year Head Coach, it's an entirely new coaching system, complete with new philosophies in offense and defense. The players don't match the system yet, injuries have hurt us a lot. It wasn't going to be pretty, and very few programs have had it easy when such a change occurred.

You're being a bunch of whiny kids. Stop acting like Bama fans, and start supporting your team. We've lost by no more than a TD in each game. It's not like we are getting trounced. Newsflash to those not familiar with the B1G, even a team like Illinois can be pretty good at times. We don't know who or what they are, but as the year goes, we will find out.

Realistic expectations people. Those are three words that many of you could go by. It's going to be a rough season, and you know what? It's not going to get any better if our fair weather fans turn on the coaching staff and make it worse.

I didn't like Bo, but I'm starting to see his point. I'm not saying that to be an arse, i'm saying that because it's true.

Grow up fellow Nebraskans, we are NOT above a rebuild year, or two even.

I don't think people shouldn't be disappointed by the start, as the coaches and team are. But the level of response is elementary. Grown men looking for a head coach fired after five games is flat out stupid and not worthy of being known as the best football fans in America.

Grow up. Cheer on the team and support the coaches. Sure, be disappointed in a loss but get a grip on life.

I do agree that a coach deserves some time to work under certain circumstances. If he doesn't win another game this season does anyone really think he belongs here in the future? I would have to say that you're out of your damn mind if you can support that. They deserve time though as very few have had great first seasons, Nick Saban lost to Louisiana Lafayette in his first season at Alabama so it's not like bad losses cant happen, they can and do happen. I am really concerned with this staff though, more so than I was with Callahan and Pelini to start their coaching gigs at Nebraska. The same things Oregon State fans were saying would happen are happening and they certainly didn't take long at all to settle in. Obviously the defense has it's problems and for the most part I can over look things like that as transitional issues, injuries, etc. do play a role. The play calling and time management things though are inexcusable though. How can you possibly fail to manage the clock in that Illinois game? Even Les Miles wouldn't screw that one up and he's had some serious head scratchers

Are we above junior high level clock and game management? How about penalties? Just asking so I know what's unrealistic and childish.
You never know what is going through the coaches mind, for all we know there were miscommunications, who knows.

It doesn't excuse anything, but it's not the end of the world either.

You know what one of the biggest problems I see is? We have a QB who should be an LB. But he's the veteran, and he has the support of the team. Give it time, and let Riley get the kind of players he needs for this system.

Blah, blah, blah. To the uninformed fan, I suppose it would appear that we're a bunch of "whiney" fans, but to those of us with a realistic view of the world, it's clear to see that this coaching staff leaves much to be desired.

How bout we just go with you are the benchmark, and judge everything off of that?

Rebuild year or two? We've been rebuilding for the last 15 years and most fans are sick & tired of being patient and told that things take time. We just got done suffering through the Bo regime where we were treated to at least one extreme bitch slappin blowout loss on nat'l TV every year. Now it seems like the Mr. Rogers regime is mired in ineptitude. If you're happy watching this program perform at this low of a level and are willing to be patient then fine, but don't tell the rest of us to lower our expectations and be happy watching the team play like the Keystone Kops.

Well for the BYU and Illinois game it was the end of the world. Because we lost those 2. 1 was a conference game... you know, of the conference we're supposed to be trying to win. Not only did we lose a conference game, but we lost it to one of the worst teams in the entire conference.

And saying TA should be a LB show's just how much talking out of your ass you're doing. So let me guess you think Fyfe should be the QB? Now I know how to categorize you. Thanks for the entertainment.

Of all the problems we have and you see Armstrong as one of the biggest? He's not short his own downfalls but he's far from being the issue here.

Wrong, our AD said we should be competing for and winning championships. We won 9 games last year, there is no reason to go 4-8 or 5-7, which we will. It's what happens when you hire an average coach.
Hope Mr. Rogers rethinks moving from Oregon and decides to 'retire' at years end.

You do realize, that when you have 4 different coaches in 15 years that you're going to be rebuilding most of that time correct? Think how radically different every coaching change was.

I don't see anyone telling you to be happy, or saying they are happy. Is it necessary to bitch, non-stop? How many different whiny-ass posts can you, and a number of others, post in a 24 hour period? There may be something wrong with you guys. It is like a fetish of some sort. Do you guys get your rocks off by obsessing about this stuff? It really is like you guys enjoy it. Give it a rest for a while; maybe get out and go for a walk.

You see the hypocrisy of bitching at someone for bitching, right?

Message boards are where people go to vent. People making huge salaries from the hard-earned money of others (coaches, politicians, etc.) deserve to be scrutinized and held to a high standard.

College athletes I will generally never criticize unless they do or say something stupid that negatively affects the program.

I seriously question someone who wants a coach fired after 5 games. There have been some seriously embarrassing things posted by Husker fans in the last few days.

Yes, he's one of them. His QB skills are good, his potential to be his best, is at LB. The system requires an accurate, throw first type of QB.

I love Tommy for the warrior that he is, but he's not the answer. Give a more accurate and well versed at the subtle nuancies of throwing the ball, and these WR's would be unstoppable. Tommy still continues to make mistakes at the wrong time. I'm not sure if it is true that he was supposed to hand the ball off, but we do know he his turnover issues have costed the Huskers games.

People are losing sleep over this, it's more than just venting we are seeing here though.

No clown, the two posts aren't remotely related. What I wouldn't give to be able to help people like you understand what you are talking about. It would really make it so much easier to visit this board.

The thing that pisses me off is that we should've spent the money on a proven winner instead of a senior citizen aged coach with a mediocre career record. Hiring someone his age guarantees we will be searching for a new coach and retooling/rebuilding in another 4 years regardless of his level of success. It was a foolish hire and it will just serve to keep the program in a state of transition. SMH

I would consider that a coaching problem rather than a QB problem. You either play someone more suited or you adapt to make a player work for you. Forcing a square peg in to a round hole is just a bad decision as a coach. If you cant adapt some to make a player work then how can you change with the game? I guess people weren't lying when they said Riley never was able to adapt with it.

sure, let's throw in windy wet and cold weather. DL & MR, get off this NFL mindset, this isn't close to the same. This is midwestern run the ball in stormy weather. Chucking the ball around doesn't work here....get real....not talking about running the ball ALL the time but don't pass the ball
ALL the time either....what's so difficult about that...

totally agree....but admit I've changed my mind since drinking koolaid earlier..

So give us the name of the "proven winner" that YOU would have hired. No BS. Give us the name of the guy you would have hired that we realistically could have gotten that IF we had spent the 4-5 million would have GUARANTEED success. I have posted that same question and NOT ONE person has been able to come up with that name. Hindsight McElwain looks like he was a good pickup up but he wasn't going to come to NU over Florida. No way.

The very fact that we were playing an interim-coached Illinois team, and allowing them to stay in the game for close to 60 minutes, bothers me much more than the 3rd down play call. I've already said that if a team wants to bleed a few more second off the clock, a bootleg would be the best play call. It was the correct play call, IMO.

Where my questioning comes in is why 5 games in we still don't have a good enough running game to rely on...that we would choose to throw the ball 31 times in windy and wet conditions. There is something very wrong with this picture, and I want to know why a team with at very least average talent can't develop a running game that can be used when we need to rely on it. We are playing a walkon FB at our RB position, for goodness sakes.

These guys have been here since December. That isn't enough time to develop your OLine and RB crew to the point of having a total of 6 of them ready to have a reliable running game?

you haven't got an answer b/c it's a dumb question phrased in a particularly stupid way.

Du, as I said before.....I think it is because it is pretty obvious that the coaches are NOT all that interested consistently committing to the run game. I hope this changes and they adapt.......or this is going to get really, really ugly. I did like some of the changes we saw defensively, so there is hope there I guess...... :)
