Let the Final Four begin...

Felt like our win over Washington in reverse. Oh well, Final Four is a fine season. Congrats to the Ladies on a great year!

You brought Mike Riley into this thread.

If you can't see the no show, on ESPN in a prime time telecast, getting their teeth kicked in, just like Ohio State did to NU football then I can't help you. John Cook is a great coach, but not tonight. His team was tentative, flat and looked unprepared.

There's a very good chance he'll have another team back in the final four. Quite possibly win another title.

It's okay to call a spade a spade, while also acknowledging a great coach. Tonight, his team looked more like NU football than it did a coaching legend.

I agree 100% that Nebraska didn't play well at all. However, Texas put the pressure on Nebraska by playing lights out with their serve receive, blocking, hitting over our block, back row defense....you name it Texas did it tonight. Texas might have played their best match of the season tonight. Even if Nebraska played much better, it probably wouldn't have mattered. I am giving Texas 100% credit for that beat down regardless how Nebraska may have played.

That was a bummer. It's hard to live up to such high expectations. Proud of the girls either way.

I wonder how much of a toll it takes on the team mentally and physically to go through a Big Ten meat grinder and then also have the pressure of trying to repeat. You have to bring it almost every night in the Big Ten.

Well, the BIG did get weeded out before the final. maybe the conference was a little overrated, or maybe, like you say, the teams were worn down. But we didn't look worn down in the match before this. I'm thinking more an off night when we couldn't afford it.

Great season from the lady Huskers. Thanks for a very entertaining season!

Yeah, they did not look good at all yesterday. But it is very, very hard to win back to back titles in modern women's college volleyball because the talent level has increased so dramatically across the board. I don't think we will ever see, by any team, another series of title runs like PSU had years ago. There were fewer great teams back then and women's volleyball just did not have the emphasis it does now. Texas is a damn good team and they have recruited well. They were "on" last night like we were "on" against Washington. It happens. It wasn't bad coaching or the girls not taking the game seriously. Cook did not suddenly become a bad "in match" coach in one day nor did our gals get lazy in one day. We played a good team and they beat us soundly on an off night. That is why it is hard to repeat these days.

I don't know why but I had a hunch Texas was going to give us all we could handle and then some. That is why I posted earlier in this thread that we needed to stop worrying about Stanford and to start worrying about beating Texas. I ain't no prophet, nor do I know much of anything about anything. But I just felt in my gut we were due for an "off game" and that Texas was under appreciated and on a bit of a roll. We were also playing away from home for the first time in a while.

GBR!

Did anyone notice how loose Stanford and Texas played yesterday? All season those teams heard how the Big 10 is the best conference in the country and getting through the Big 10 Conference might be easier than playing in the actual tournament.

It was pretty obvious that Stanford and Texas played with a chip on their shoulders and were the aggressors. Nebraska/Minnesota were playing on their heels the whole night but that was due to the opponent. Nebraska/Minnesota did not play their best volleyball last night by any stretch of the imagination but lets not make excuses. Stanford/Texas had great game plans and played with attitudes that punished Nebraska/Minnesota. It was easy to see that Stanford/Texas thoroughly enjoyed beating the top 2 Big 10 teams into the ground.

I think hearing about the Big 10 superiority actually helped Stanford/Texas get into the right frame of mind last night to play with an aggressive care free attitude. Nebraska/Minnesota weren't able to respond after getting punched in the mouth early and often.

With that being said...GO STANFORD tomorrow night!! Winking

Lost to a better team, nothing more, nothing less. I'm sure no one feels worse than those players who fought all year to get to the Final 4. Texas is a damn good team, good luck to them.

It's these posts that I don't understand. I was ticked off last night after that match and am still ticked today. Why are Husker fans being so freaking flippant about losing to that school in Austin of all teams? I saw this on Husker twitter last night and I'm seeing it again here.

I guess I wouldn't have minded as much if we'd have beat Texass then lost to Stanford. But not only did we lose the chance to repeat we lose to the school in Austin AND we lose the Rolfzens. That is a bitter pill to swallow.

Maybe flippancy isn't the right word but I don't understand the mentality of a lot of Husker fans today. We lost to Texass for heaven's sake and lost a chance at the repeat.
