KJJ Announcing...

You think Nebraska was 100% squeaky clean during TO's era? I think OU was by far the bigger cheat, but saying "our sins weren't as big of a deal as the other guy's sin" is something I've always struggled with. You think there weren't some steroids and hidden failed drug tests and hundred dollar handshakes and police investigation's thwarted by NU back in the day? Just to name a few.
Anybody remember the bob devany Friday night prediction show where Switzer came on with a sack of tacos. As I recall NU-OU was the next day with winner to the orange bowl and loser to the sun bowl. Hence the tacos.

That cemented the mutual respect I believe.

I worked out with a very famous ex-Husker who is frequently talked about on this board, and two or three not as famous players (though you'd know them) for a few years in the early 2000's. I'm telling you right now NU was dirtier than you are giving them credit for. Higher class of dirt maybe, but probably dirtier than you'd care to admit. Plus, I'm a nobody, I guarantee you there are posters on this board who know waaaay more about this stuff than I do. OU just wasn't afraid to flaunt it.
this is correct.. some things could be said of things we witnessed when we lived there,, but it would result in getting banned

I guess I stand correct ... basically TO and the bootlegger's boy ran the same type of program ... poor ole Barry was just unlucky and got caught I guess

Im going to say cross OSU off the list, there claiming there in on BIGGER FISH anyways and USC it sounds like they may be in good with a lot of the WR theres really after. I honestly don't see him going anywhere but Nebraska. To much family bond with coach MR and Johnson family.

Would be great. We need a high profile name here (even if he's a bust...but also what if he's an all pro like dad?).

I'm very excited for this kid. If he puts the work in & we get more talent to surround him, things could be very good for our future winning prospects.

I just hope the expectations wont be too high for this kid....he isnt gonna be a the big guy deep threat or set any records but he has the chance to be a solid player for 4 years maybe the Westerkamp role ...name alone with the peer recruiting that comes with it priceless

regardless, im just thrilled that this staff seems to be working all the angles and opportunities.

i was just thinking to myself, that this group might have a race on its hands to the finish line with 2 topflight qb recruits after getting a highly ranked commit for the 2016 cycle - all with NO previous connections to Nebraska.

If KJJ commits, it will stand, provided we win 9 plus games and our offense looks the part MR has promised him. Frankly, that goes for a lot of recruits on the offensive side of the ball ... chicken and egg

Just look at the name, kid was born with expectations. I doubt any of ours add much weight. Even though he's from Cali, he's no TM....he'll be just fine in the spotlight.

Nebraska 24 predictions 77%
USC 5 predictions 13% (last one was July of 2015)
Ohio State 3 predictions 10% (last one January of 2016)

I realize Switzer is a charismatic guy and on the surface very likable ... but what I don't get is all the love the guy gets from Husker nation and the college football community at large

He was one of the biggest cheats in all of college football, ran a renegade program, got fired, got the program on probation and the death penalty for the program was actually brought up after the allegations.

Much of his and OU's success came at the expense of TO and Nebraska. What would Nebraksa's and TO's win % looked like, how many more conf titles and potential national titles would Neb have had if the playing field was level.

The guy was dirty and every bit the cheat that people label Calipari, Petino, Schnellenberger, Petrino etc as - yet he is revered.

OU's program aside from the Switzer years has a long history of NCAA violations and is one of the most sanctioned football programs ever.

I don't get all the love and adoration

Great post, jlb. Of course, Oklahoma's entire culture is based on cheating. They stole their fight song from Yale ("Boola Boola"). The Sooner nickname came from those who entered the Unassigned Lands before President Cleveland officially proclaimed them open to settlement. In regards to OU football alone, Switzer was just carrying the proud tradition that Bud Wilkinson started.
