I think that was a special parting gift more than a real extension. The article said he signed a new 5-year contract three months ago. Of course I realize schools try not to have lame duck coaches for recruiting reasons.

Lots of great young coaches out there for KSU.
- Gary Barnett is only 72, so he should have a good seven years left in him.
- Frank Solich is just 74.
- Bill Callahan is a baby at 62.
- Jim Leavitt is only 61.
- Mike Riley is 65.
It appears K-State, at least, has considered giving him a second chance — former athletic director John Currie reportedly struck a deal with Leavitt to become the program’s coach-in-waiting before Bill Snyder axed the move.
Ehhhh...I wouldn't accept that if I was Snyder. After what he has done for the university you aren't going to let some AD pick your defensive coordinator for you. Can you imagine Tom letting $Bill tell him who was going to be on his staff? If it's true that Snyder nixed the deal, then he really doesn't have KSU's interests above his own anymore. Either that or Leavitt has more baggage than the stuff we already know about.
Didn't realize he just signed a 5 year contract in August. Not sure what anyone was thinking when they did that.Maybe it is. He just turned 79 last month. It's amazing the job he's done down there. Got K-State football off the death bed. Click the link for the article.
Snyder
It was a golden parachute more than anything else. He deserves it for turning around not just the football program, but the entire university.Didn't realize he just signed a 5 year contract in August. Not sure what anyone was thinking when they did that.
Eddie Robinson. Bobby Bowden. Joe sicko Paterno. Bear Bryant. Bill Snyder. The exception is Tom Osborne. He is the only one that knew to get out in his prime. The others became living fossils.
Didn't they just give him an extension last yearIt’s the old ‘I’m not retiring until you hire my son as head coah’ standoff
No. He had predetermined 4-5 years prior to his retirement when he was going to retire. Then went 1 more year. Maybe Solich was getting offers and TO said "hey stick around because I am retiring after the..,.... season" . have not heard that specifically.But.. TO really didn't want to retire and only did so in order to use his leverage to get his chosen successor the job? Am I remembering that correctly?

One of the best coaches in CFB ever. Did more with less than any coach in CFB in my opinion
Shoot, how about Missouri. With location and population/recruiting base to work with Bill Snyder might have at one National Title under his belt.Scary to think how much better his teams would have been if he was at Oregon State, Kansas state has to be the most difficult place to win.
Tom had a very bad health scare his last year of coaching. He could have died. The way he worked and the hours he put could kill a healthy young guy let alone a guy who had his health issues.No. He had predetermined 4-5 years prior to his retirement when he was going to retire. You effin ahole, you just elder-shamed 75% of this board with that pic.He will be missed:
It will be Klieman from ND State. He’s interviewed in the past ( behind the scenes by his agent) and he will be the next coach when/if Snyder retires.I think that was a special parting gift more than a real extension.

True. He made some major lifestyle changes. Hasn't looked "healthy" for a long time.Tom had a very bad health scare his last year of coaching. He could have died. The way he worked and the hours he put could kill a healthy young guy let alone a guy who had his health issues.
