I just seen this on the front page, does anyone know who this kid is and if we are actually considering him? If he can hit the short and medium passes better then Tommy and can pick the offense up quick enough, maybe Tommy could be a WR simular to Person El or Jammal Turner or Alonzo Moore type. I think he kill it as that type of WR.

Actually bro, that's a very good point, we all know he can run and has a good speed and power mix to his running, come to think of it, maybe he can pass protect and be another option at RB if he can't catch the football.

I don't have a subscription, but the picture looks like Zach Martin, the QB from Iowa Western. He can sling it, for sure. Pass-first type of guy, great kid, high football IQ, coach's son, etc. I would love to see him don the N, if nothing else he'll provide some stiff competition. He probably fits the mold of a Langsdorf/Riley QB.

Well if he has all that going for him, then lets get him here and make Tommy a RB or Slot WR. Sorry but that would be a big improvement from Tommy, just minus the scrambling ability which could suck at times.

That would be him.

This is college football. If your QB can't move it will catch up with you in the end. If we are a passing team, we won't win big over the long run.

There are plenty of quarterbacks that aren't scramblers that win plenty. If he's Bernie Kosar, that's a problem. If he's Connor Cook, he can have plenty of success in college.

Anyone have an idea what Zach Martin would have as a ratinf wise, is he a 5.6 3 star guy or is he in that 4 star area? Sorry they do not have him ranked at all. Just curious what his rating should be at or why hes not rated at all? And is he an early enrolly if did choose us?

The one part that worries me is this kid has no offers at all from anyone but if we offered hed commit, we are at tops for him, so yes as i asked above, what kinda of grading ir ranking would you have to guess he should have? And while im at the 101 questions, is he a 3 year guy or 2 year guy?

i dont think we want to jeapordize the commitment of POB for ANY OTHER QB---jmo

I don't think so, I think it's more of an indictment of all our other QB's, that aren't TA. I'm sure they would like to red shirt POB, but won't be able to if we can't find someone to surplant Fife as QB #2. We need better QB depth big time,

I'm a bit concerned they think O'brien is wavering hard if they're bringing this kid in.
This seems pretty far fetched to me as all POB has done is recruit for the huskers and bide his time for January as an early enrollee status.

There isn't a single thing that has come up that would suggest he's wavering hard, let alone even a little bit. I'm not a recruiting specialist and don't have any insight whatsoever, but if there was ever a solid lock, this guy is it, in my opinion.

I thought I read a couple of weeks ago that Michigan offered and there were rumblings he was VERY interested. If that's wrong then hell yes! But that was the talk a while back.

I wouldn't understand why Michigan would go after him, they got a 4 star and a 3 star QB this year and 2 4 star QBs last year on top of that, they don't need O'Brien, i mean how many QBs does Jim need on his team and thats just this year and last year not to mention the pior years before, 2 POB knows this is his team to lose, if he flipped to Michigan hed have to battle his ass off for even a small shot.

If true, I hadn't heard this. I would be shocked if he is considering Michigan, but recruits change their minds all the time. I still think he is super solid, but who knows?

Me either, never heard a thing about O'Brien and Michigan, it would makr no sense for O'Brien or Michigan. 2 like guys above said hes been recruiting his ass off for the Huskers and just a few days ago tweeted to Husker nation to show love to KJJ because hes considering the Huskers big time. Im sorry this dude is as solid as a recruit gets to a team, in this case OUR HUSKERS.

They would like O'Brien to start game one next fall, not red shirt.....and he has a significant shot. He is considered the odds on favorite by some.

Hey like I said, if that's not correct then I'll be pleased as punch. I read it on here a few weeks ago that was the case though. Maybe it was someone blowing smoke.

Some guy from ESPN that covers Michigan tried to put something out on Twitter about this a couple weeks ago and then took it back right away. It was crap click bait post on Twitter IMO and there was never anything to it.

Who is considering a kid who hasn't set foot on campus the "odds on favorite" to beat out a senior, 3-year returning starter? I'm not saying I woudn't be happy if O'Brien was that good, but true freshman coming onto campus and doing that are incredibly rare. Husker fans tend to fall in love with these high school QBs who are supposed to be sure things ... right up until it turns out they aren't a sure thing.

I remember Beau Davis being the heir apparent....until he played. I remember the kid who transferred to NC State and barely ever played there. Hell, Stanton and Darlington were both supposed to be heir apparents.

Well good then.

I've never heard 1 thing about POB wavering. He's been as solid as solid can be.

And I don't think Michigan can take any early enrolled either. So POB would have to change his mind in that front.

Martin has great feet, good pocket awareness, a great touch but doesn't appear to have a strong arm. But he certainly knows when and where exactly to throw the ball. I think it is a smart move, kind of temporary insurance. With a juco if they end up not using him they haven't blown a 4 year scholarship. I think it is insurance until POB is ready to start.

Yep, NU is shopping for a backup IMO.
I really hope the kid is legit, because I would love to redshirt PO. I don't know if I can take much more of TA throwing off his back foot and making 4 or 5 really poor decisions a game. It is going to cost us too many games.

Doesn't Harbaugh end up offering everyone that Riley offers? Or at least it seems that way, lol.

I could be biased, but I think his arm strength is comparable to anyone we have on the roster right now. As I mentioned earlier, he can sling it, downfield or otherwise.
