I am guessing it happens because you want to announce the coach ASAP while maybe just some sort of little details are getting worked out? I have no idea.
You used to have to pass a NCAA recruiting test. My guess is now that is just online and takes 10 minutes and more than likely he just had some dude on staff take it for him.

And that’s all am saying. I agree some official contracts take a while to get all the information and clauses etc. especially at a school where you need some State confirmation to ok the contract. He probably hasn’t signed it yet. But he has agreed in principle somehow and I think there would be witnesses. I don’t believe he is going to renig and go to the NFL. If he did with tje agreement in place and with witnesses I would think that the buyouts would be binding. Now if the AD didn’t cover all bases he would be a fool.

Yes. You can sign a memorandum of understanding that lays out the essentials of the deal. That would allow Belichick to do the day to day stuff, the. when the contract is completed, that is signed.

The new HC at Michigan didn’t have a signed contract to start the season. He mentioned something about it after game 3. The press ran a few stories, and Michigan got off their ass to produce a contract for him.

Those buyouts seem to really be more for the school to "get something" as opposed to actually stopping someone from trying to hire their coach.
Ya because if someone really wants to Deion or Bill the payout won’t stop them . It’s like an insurance policy for the school in case of loss .
