Is Rhule Toast?

dream crusher!
All HC contracts have a conduct clause which permits the school to terminate for cause. Dannen just needs to manufacture a scandal involving Rhule similar to the Mel Tucker sexual harassment incident and then pack his boxes.

If it is obvious that Rhule is “toast” and he ends up coaching the Huskers in 2025, what does that say about Troy Dannen?
That Rhule has a $56 million buyout, and Nebraska cant keep changing coaches every few years. Rhule was Trevs guy though, and Dannens job is tied to the success of Rhule and the football program. Rhule needs to win this year though, Dannen wont let a coach he didnt hire bring him down.

With very few exceptions, “hot seat” coaches under a long term contract do not voluntarily resign. This is especially the case where a huge ($56M) payday would be forfeited by doing so. Even if he wanted to leave, Rhule will undoubtedly force the AD to remove him.
drops each year

You believe Rhule will soon be terminated?
No, but next year or two, yes. He has 50 million. It’s a hobby without a big time schools pressure of winning titles or 10 games. He can get his 6 to 8 wins with a pancake schedule and keep the noise down.

you think the noise is down? This may be your dumbest post yet. And that is saying something

nah Rhule didn't fire is OC. Just made him the highest paid TE coach. That is the CEO we have running this sinking ship
Do you believe Satt will be here next season and at his current pay if he is? His contract gets paid no matter what. Keeping him in the building to aid in the DH transition is a bad idea?

I hope he is not an aid to DH in transition. I hope his hands are completely off the offense. So yes. He should have been fired and not demoted. Only Nebraska does that kind of thing

Yes

He is a dunce who should not only have been thrown out on his ass instead of demoted, the University should’ve filed a restraining order against him
Don't disagree he is a dunce but what would explaining the terminology and playbook itself been like without the originator OC there to explain? DH admitted he had issues a couple of times getting the terminology out and to DR mid-game as it was. Satt certainly hasn't had DH's ear during play calling duties during games... we know this because they have seemed to have some actual feel and logic behind them most of the time.

The playbook should’ve been sent to the crematorium right along with him

Useless

If he's that bad, what does that say about the man who hired him?
Rhule has always been a fraud

The people who boast about his “program building” conveniently leave out the fact that his predecessors at both Temple and Baylor had better 4- and 3-year records than Rhule produced at each stop

So throw a whole new set of plays at the offense with new terminology and responsibilities 3/4 of the way through the season? You can't be serious.
Holgorsen has been teaching it his entire life

Its football not quantum physics

Satt’s garbage isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on

Not quantum physics but you want the offense to learn an entirely new playbook in a week and a half with new terminology and responsibilities?

If you mean whittle it down to the plays worth a crap it sounds like DH did just that and it showed. That coupled with his feel for calling a game led to the whole thing feeling better immediately. Which is why I hope the purse gets opened wide to get him to plant himself here for a couple of years.

The amount of plays that exist in football is finite. There are only so many.

No playbook is entirely different than the next. Route trees are numbered, etc.

It’s not like a native English speaker being asked to speak fluent Swedish in 8 days.

Fair enough... you make good points. Not like they will adopt the option game and throw out the blocking schemes they are already familiar with.

The result is what you’re calling the whittled down version plus what Holgorsen thinks we can run with our personnel

Rhule should be toast even if he isn’t yet. First he hires a bevy of shit coaches on offense. Then he fires his OC and brings in DH who still hasn’t indicated if he will be back. Now Rhule loses his top two defensive coaches. That probably means some recruiting decommits are on the way.

And all this after another year of cluster fvck mediocrity. We should do what Purdue did. Fire a coach after 2 years. Rhule stinks and it should be obvious he stinks. Get rid of him and move on.
My gut reaction as well. I’m not a fortune teller but I consulted my Magic 8-ball and it said “outlook not so good” when asked about Rhule’s future coaching success. You want to give a guy a fighting chance but when I add everything up, I think the odds of him “succeeding” at NU are slim, so why prolong the inevitable. Trev F’d up, let’s move on only IF we have a proven winner waiting in the wings.

Doubt he is on the hot seat but the decisions he makes over the coming days will determine if he survives after next year. 6 wins will not be enough next year. I think if he wins 8 games he would be on the hot seat for most fans next year, he needs to be 9+ wins next year to be safe. If he makes bad hires to replace the guys leaving it will for sure make getting the wins harder and also put bad feelings in the fan base which will give him no room for mistakes.

If he makes bad hires and loses anything the fans will be out with pitch forks saying "I told you so"
