Fire Rhule

I think if we lose the remaining games we have to consider moving on from Rhule. I think we should give him at least one moreyear though unless he refuses to fire any of his staff.
I think he needs to show immediately that he is willing to make the hard decisions like replacing a failing OC and ST coach. It will send a program-wide message and probably bring some confidence that he's serious about winning.
Replacing coaches who are failing miserably isn't a hard decision. Whether it's the ST coach or all of the offensive coaching staff. It's the only non-inept action to be taken.

I think that's where we stand at this point, the ST coach and all offensive coaches deserve to be fired if the season were to end today. In fact, I would have canned the ST coach and WR coach already. The remaining staff should use these next few games to save their own ass.

Purdue fired their offensive coordinator a month ago, OU fired their offensive Coordinator 2 weeks ago, CU fired their offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator at the end of 1 season… Doing the same shit that isn’t working over and over again is insanity. If Rhule truly cares about winning make changes now. If not just save everyone the headache and fire him now. I’m so god damn tired of everyone from the regents to the president to what ever that hem and haw over the state of Husker football they’re all pathetic

Cant fire him. He is 10-11 with 2 years of the easiest schedules Nebraska has seen in 25 years. He is making progress in year 2 and is on his way to his 11-2 season 3 record that everyone has talked about since they hired him. Have patience, Matt will turn this ship around. He has done it everywhere he has been. Baylor was a dumpster fire when he got there...What a bunch of shit. Shitty hire from the get-go. Producing just like I thought he would.

If we lose out and Rhule is 0-10 in games to clinch bowl eligibility, he can’t be allowed to simply bring back every coach.
Which is exactly what I said. If Rhule won't fire anyone then he needs to go. If I am Dannen I am talking to Rhule Monday morning about canning Satterfield or potentially losing his job. Blowing up the entire program right now seems a bit extreme but we do need to know Rhule is serious about getting better everywhere.
I think we also need to stop worrying about Raiola's feelings. He's got things to work on and if he transfers his future at those schools won't be a cake walk. I want to give Kaelin a chance to play and win the job. Raiola was better in the spring, but is that still true.
As far as I'm concerned we stop giving a damn about a bowl and just play some younger guys in places we are not cutting it (safety, LB) in terms of athleticism, and keep the focus on recruiting, player development, and NIL transfers for next year

We also act like we have to follow some unwritten code that disallows being as aggressive and demanding as other programs.
What if Callahan had fired Cosgrove midseason? It might actually have saved his job and gotten that team a bowl bid. That '07 squad had a good offense and some talented players. It really just was a stubborn refusal to not make a change that cost Callahan his job too.
I'm really tired of 'The Nebraska Way' and want the 'Alabama Way'. We give too many shits about feelings and don't demand results. That has to change.
Right now, we do have more young talent in the system then we have had in a while, with more coming in. So I'm not eager to fire Rhule just yet or blow things up. Just fire the current OC and be ready to get the best one possible in the off-season.

Nice try SuperFan. Your record speaks pretty clearly you'll support whatever the talking heads will dictate, just as a good super fan does.

Yes I am a fan of Nebraska and want them to be successful. Not shit.

I also did say this after the Indiana game:
To me, if he misses a Bowl, he has to be gone. I know the buyout number is huge, but losing six in a row to finish just has to be the end.

If he makes a Bowl Game, then he needs to make some clear changes to his program. He is stuck in an outdated paradigm and needs to get with modern college football.

3 last year

Rhule lost to Sparty’s interim coach in addition to Deion and Fickell

Oh right, forgot about that. Not exactly the same as I think the rest of their staff was intact. But yeah, make that five beatings by first year coaches. That is uhhhh, well that's not good

WTF are you talking about? I’ve said since the Indiana game I’m not happy with where this program is at. In fact, after that game I said if we miss a Bowl Game Rhule should be gone. But thanks for your obsession weirdo.
… but also “Rhule is better than Cignetti and Fleck”

very brave of you to think Rhule should be fired after losing 6 in row, though

I bought into the Rhule Hype... I also gave frost too much leeway as the combination of Riley/Covid was a Heck of a Mountain to climb out of... that said, late in Year 2 to have a team that routinely performs this bad is inexcusable...

As was stated perfectly in another thread: If this staff couldn’t get this team prepared for Indiana off a bye, and couldn’t get them prepared for UCLA after an inspiring performance against OSU… Zero point zero reason to believe they’ll come out and play well against USC.

If changes aren't made to 2/3 of the offensive staff it's over... Send Rhule packing because it proves he values friendship over performance and that he's been lying the whole time.... He sat Dowdell for a game because of a fumble but hasn't held his assistants to any kind of accountability when they suck...

Yes, I'm salty! as Husker Nation the entire fanbase should be F'n Pissed!

Which 1/3 of the offensive staff would you keep?

His main project is DR, and he's gotten worse. That's not a good endorsement for Thomas.
Dylan is also training with his mentors coach and still regressing... one might say he's having serious issues or he's confusing/overthinking things by having too many guys telling him what to do...

If you hire a new OC, I think you let him pick his offensive staff.
I don't know of any instance in the history of college football where this has actually happened. The default is to have the head coach vet and hire all staff. That's what they're paid $10 mil per year to do.

Is that the way it typically works? Or does the head coach normally make all the hiring decisions on assistant coaches?
No it's not how it works, and I've never even heard of a real instance of it. The HC hires all staff. Is how it typically works.

Empty memorial and shit will change. We’ve been the most tolerant fan base in the country. Time to be heard or we just keep having these ****ing dogshit 5 win season forever. We are officially a bottom feeder program and we deserve it as we keep “selling out” every game no matter how bad it gets. Who cares if Raiola leaves. He’d be better off at another program anyway.
I haven't went to a game for years. I walk the walk, they won't change till they start losing big money.

Good for you.

The most important thing for this program is not firing this coach or that coach imo. It’s having Memorial stadium be 1/3 empty at kickoff vs Wisconsin. I sincerely hope it happens

Why wouldn't Raiola leave and take Barney with him? They will have their pick of 3 or 4 Top 12 teams who will pay them well.
You don’t think teams are gonna look at the back half of our season and have serious doubts? He’s not exactly setting the world on fire, Barney could get an offer though

That doesn't need to happen as I believe donors will speak. He will make changes off season without being told too if he's a good coach.
