The winner advances to the B1G basketball tournament as the 12 seed where they'll play Wisconsin. The loser goes home and maybe gets an NIT bid.

Is Husker basketball in a better position than they were under Miles? The talent seems to be. Better than what Iowa has under the stagnating McCaffrey.

You are not getting an NIT bid when you don’t even make the conference tournament. If Nebraska loses today Troy needs to seriously think about a change.

Asked this in the other thread: how would Northwestern get in ahead of us when we own the head to head over them?
If NU loses today, they'd be in a five way tie for 15th. NU has the worst record against the others in that group of 5, with their only win being against NW. the other 4 teams in that scrum managed to win more than 1 game against the bottom teams in the league.

Both questions of whether the team/talent are better today than under Miles seem pretty debatable. Unfortunately, Fred seems to be following up his best year with a disappointing one and squandering momentum which was one of the things that characterized the Miles era. If they make the conference tourney and make a run, they still have a chance to flip the script on the season. Seems unlikely, but this team is so unpredictable.

I dint think it’s any better than it was under Miles. If the talent is better well then the coaching is worse just look at results

Miles was here 7 years made the postseason 3 times ( 2Nit. I NCAA) this will be Fred’s 6th year if Nebraska loses today likely no postseason. He will just have 1 . Pretty safe to say it’s no better and actually worse.

Fred isn’t going anywhere, due in part to the interim AD deciding to play Santa Claus last spring with a contract extension.

I hope he brings in a better portal class next year, because there are big shoes to fill with Williams and Gary moving on.

Ya that put Troy in a terrible position. If the slide continues today and no big Ten tournament I still think he has to look.

What evidence is there to suggest his next roster rebuild will a good one?

Miles got better talent as far as our best players on the team, he sent more to the NBA. He was decent finding underrated recruits. Had more dawgs leading the teams. Fred I think builds deeper teams and at least has more creativity on offense but the results have so far been slightly worse unfortunately. You need alpha dawgs at the top

I didn’t say it would be. I’m just hoping it will because otherwise next year will be be ugly.

I’m also not opposed to moving on from Fred, I just think is zero chance it will happen. Not just due to the contract, but also because a large share of the fan base is oddly infatuated with him. Maybe because his grandpa coached at NU or because Sam is their favorite Eddie Floorburn - but the attachment definitely exists.

I wasn’t saying you thought recruiting would be better, I’m just looking for any reasons why to expect things to be better. I think some fans are infatuated with him because of the success he had at Iowa State and they makes them feel warm and fuzzy that we have landed such a great coach.

Same story different coach. He needs replaced period. If he loses to Iowa he needs fired today.
