In the old days when Nebraska was great, there was no internet, cell phone and very few TV channels.

Today young kids can text beautiful photos of the beaches of Florida to communicating with other prospects via text to Facebook. In the old days they could not and they did not have the Elite 11 or travel.

My point is this. Nobody knew or could see how boring the state is and being in a state like Nebraska where your recruiting is 100 miles behind Florida or Texas your screwed. Nebraska's only chance to get to that Top 5 Level on a consistent basis is to land a Pete Carrol, Nick Saban, Urban Meyer or Jimbo Fisher type of coach . Technology killed the good old days

P.S. Florida beaches are gorgeous right now. Take a train and come see the lovely ocean. We'd love to see you at our school.

And why would one of them come here? So they can live on a plane to recruit 18 year old kids? When you're old the last thing you want to do is jet set around while your grandkids grow up. Never happening!!! People come here to check the box on their resume them go to Tex, OSU, etc. we'll never be a hotbed for recruiting. It's always going to stop a top tier coach from coming here.

You forgot to include microwave ovens and satellite radio. Also, rap music totally changed the landscape of college football and Nebraska was never able to keep pace.

In the 80's and 90', when Nebraska was competing for or winning national titles, what happened to the likes of USC, Texas, Ucla, Oregon, Stanford, Alabama in the 80's, Texas A$M, Auburn? They were still recruiting damn good players but none of them won a NC in either decade except Bama in 1992.

You have to have great COACHING, players, and some luck to ultimately win it all. Nebraska doesn't have any of those three elements, at least not nearly enough. One day, the right mixture might show up in Lincoln again. Until then, it will continue to be a bumpy ride. Just look at Purdue and see how well coached they are, you can't tell me that their talent is better than Nebraska's, but it would seem their coaching is.

Gutenberg. Gutenberg destroyed Nebraska football.

Funny. The only thing that has actually saved this staff thus far is social media. I give them credit, they do that well.

put down the crack pipe. hiring bad head coaches is what has us in our current position, nothing more, nothing less.
True. Going back to TO's departure he wanted to reward an assistant much as Devaney rewarded him, but unfortunately there were no brilliant young TO's to annoint. As great as the program was, the Osborne head coaching tree was incredibly barren compared to those of Fry, Snyder and other "legends." From that point forward the various ADs have shot blanks.
