***Riley hinted on Monday that sophomore guard Jerald Foster, who suffered a serious MCL injury during fall camp, could be back at practice at some point this month. But Foster was back in action sooner than most anyone expected on Tuesday.

Foster went through individual drills and warmups during the early portion of practice. Riley said Monday it was unlikely Foster would be able to play this week, but it looks like he's right on track to make it back sooner than later this season.

***As expected, Armstrong did not practice on Tuesday. He was on the sidelines and was seen laughing and talking with his coaches and teammates. Riley said earlier on Tuesday that Armstrong continues to be listed as day to day but they are optimistic about his progress in his recovery.

***Two other offensive linemen were back in action on Tuesday, as guard Tanner Farmer (ankle) and tackle David Knevel (foot) both practiced after missing last week's game at Ohio State.

***At linebacker, Marcus Newby (hamstring), Michael Rose-Ivey (elbow), and Chris Weber (knee strain) were all in pads and practicing on Tuesday. The only linebacker who didn't fully practice was Dedrick Young (ankle).

***Also practicing was receiver Brandon Reilly, who played only a handful of snaps at Ohio State due to a hamstring injury.

***The message from the defensive players and coaches was that they went over the film of the Ohio State game on Sunday and only focused on things that were basic mistakes on things they knew they were going to see again going forward. After that, the Blackshirts “moved on” from that loss and turned their focus solely to Minnesota.

***Defensive line coach John Parrella said he told his guys the story of Nebraska’s loss to Iowa State during his senior season in 1992, which he said was the worst loss of his career. Parrella said you have to move on from games like that no matter how hard it is, and that’s usually harder for the younger players to do than the veterans.

Be real big to get Farmer and Foster back for the final 3 and bowl game. Good to get Knevel and Reilly back too.
