Where there's smoke, there's fire, and there's a blaze burning in the land of Mickey Mouse and Shamu. Scott Frost is sending smoke signals.

I sincerely doubt the many "reports" we're seeing are false. Scott wants to come home. Things like this are "leaked" to the right people all the time in sports, and that seems to be happening.

Mike Riley, as nice a guy as he is, is making this easy for Moos. It's been a shameful season, and not even the most adept verbal pugilist can make a compelling argument that this is a well-coached team. Is it because Mike is old? A bit out of touch and simply not used to the level of competitiveness this fan base expects? Or is it the new schemes on both sides of the ball? All of it?

(I DO NOT buy the age-old "lack of talent" argument. No, no, no. We have athletes. We have some quality big guys. We are not Kansas. Yet we are playing so poorly, we honestly "should" be 2-5.)

Anyway, having said allllll that, I would have been in favor of keeping Riley and Diaco for one more full season, no matter what our final record was, IF, if, if, if, if it wasn't for Scott Frost and his current station in life and on the coaching carousel. He's ready, and God, are we ready for him.

Call it a shooting star, a needle in a haystack, a bolt of lightning ... whatever metaphor you want to call on. Scott Frost wants to come home, and the time is now. His meteoric rise has been well-documented. So has his inexperience. He's not ripe and ready like Urban was when he went to Florida. But he's close enough. And he's our guy, a home-grown product who understands OUR kind of football and OUR expectations This is a guy who will come here and never want to leave.

So, it's time. Knowing our luck, Riley and staff will rally and go 4-1 down the stretch, teasing us and making this tougher than it needs to be. But it shouldn't matter. Long-term, Riley can't be the guy. He's running out of time. He's too old. Who would be next? Someone else out there? Diaco? Is this offense sustainable? Really? I don't think so.

So at the risk of sounding dramatic, perhaps the football gods have finally, finally blessed us after our long stay in purgatory. It seems so clear all of the sudden.

So bring him home, Mr. Moos, bring him home.
