Rather than getting the 40th best pro style QB, id rather have the best option QB year in and year out
We have the best pro style qb. He’s a true freshman. Name a true freshman playing for a bad team that has done better in the last 10 years.
He’s definitely regressed. Or probably more likely, there is film on his weaknesses and he’s yet to adapt. A lot of growth needs to happen quickly. He’s got a good arm but his pocket presence, reads, and intangibles leave a lot to be desired as it stands right now
That is an ancient art, not enough top coaches or players want any part of it, but if you had them, it would be fun to see again.

Northern ILL exposed DR and Illinois capitalized on it. The blue print has been copied ever since. I'm not sure he has what it takes to improve or change his game. There will be no more wins this season with him at the helm.

Dylan is learning. College defense are much more sophisticated than any high school defense. He’s not had consistent oline play. His wr’s aren’t open. What do you really expect from a 19 year old true freshman? Look at arch mannning this year playing for a much better team. He’s had a lot of struggles

I watch. The offensive line does an admirable job for him much of the time. You can’t see on TV, but the reports are that wide receivers are running open and he doesn’t see them. I think he knows where he’s going with the ball 90% of the time.
I will agree that our wide receivers do a poor job of blocking on the perimeter, and when they do do it, it’s usually holding

The true condemnation of the offensive line is the running game and blitz pick up. If we had a consistent running game, DR would have a lot less pressure on him. We all know we can’t run the ball for shit

If so, yes. Defense has to account for a QB that is also a running threat.
I just don’t see us going back to an Option heavy running type Offense.
I still think DR can be effective with a better RB threat, a better O-line, and receivers that can get separation, run good routes, and fight for the ball

If you want to be a prick that says he isn’t getting it done, ignoring the fact he is a true freshman with a poor supporting cast, then by all means, have at it. Here’s the problem - all good athletes need coaches to develop them and help them grow. Remember how Adrian Smith looked at Kansas State after leaving the Huskers? Now we’ve brought in even a better player and the world is watching how our coaches are making him worse.
So, bring in the best damn option quarterback around, but I imagine you will not be very happy what’s the progress you see throughout the year.
At this point that seems more appetizing than bringing in a low rent version of what OSU, Georgia, Bama etc run. We will always be a band of misfit toys in that system - nothing more

Im pretty sure we can still find some Class D homecoming kings that would be willing to live in the weight room and eat 6k calories a day for the opportunity to kill someone his junior year.
Hell the best OL we have had in the last 20 yrs was a coverted TE so our HS OL recruiting is ass to begin with.
He's not mobile at all. I think that being able to run a little is very important against modern defensive schemes. I really do feel like Haarberg gives us another dimension at times. We also just don't have receivers that can get open or stretch the field. If we can get a five star WR it might be tte difference.
And for whatever reason Raiola just seems to miss wide open receivers.
I thought we had a Trevor Lawrence type prospect ready to win right now. We don't. He needs time to develop and improve.
