I want to see who MJ wants as OC

He is terrible. who else can call plays? Send him packing. Why is smothers not playing in the 2nd half? Purdy needs to go out the door with Whipple. I think Mickey may have just ended his candidacy
Purdy is terrible. With our luck, he'll transfer to Illinois and beat us next time we play them.

Tennessee's OC couldn't call plays to make this offense look good. It's like bringing one of those plastic butterknives from chipotle to a gun fight.

The stench of crotch rot, nutsinhischin and weekend at Bernie's, will haunt this program for a very long time.

After today, I don't think MJ is the answer. This team won't win another game this year. It's time for a complete teardown.

Ok, I still like the leadership the Mickey displays. He is strong and energetic and honest. You can build on that. However, Nebraska is not a team built for 50 pass attempts a game. And Mickey didn’t have a choice in that decision before entering his interim role. My feeling is that Mickey won’t be head coach. However, I feel that he will be here in some offensive role.

But as far as OC, you’re not going to get a guy who has worked with Big Ben and numerous NfL qbs to change at the end of his career. if Mickey wanted to be HC, he should’ve sat down with Whip and said, ok we’re committing to the run game and you don’t want to do that, you can go too.

With a below average to bad OLine, the only thing to do is slow the game down and attempt to control the clock. We do none of that which is why we lose lots of close games like Purdue for instance when we only have the ball for 17 minutes and change.

I’d like to see someone come in with a smash mouth type mentality and not be afraid to run the ball at people. It’s 3rd and 1 and we’re going 5 wide in the Gun. Even Tom Brady runs sneaks in those situations in the damn NFL. Not Whip tho.

So give me someone who wants to commit to the run and slow the game down and give our defense a chance to create turnovers and be fresh every series, not spent by the 4th qtr. You can still throw off play action and have 4 or 5 wide sets. But it cannot be your base set at Nebraska.

Nebraska was once Running Back U. If we put an emphasis on that again, the Ws will come back as well. I’d rather watch a physical 24-20 game of physical smash mouth fb rather than a 35-31 game of 7 on 7 any day.

The I formation, the pro set, the single back look with qb under center, are all non existent now here and that’s a tragedy. Got move on from Whip. Last week was apparent that we haven’t developed anything but a headache after CT went out.

We have the Backs to rotate enough and keep ‘em fresh. We need to give em the rock. Come on Whip. Get on board. You’re either in…. Or you’re in the way!!! Go Big Red!

Whip is not good
Whip is actually really good when he's got a good offensive line and QB...neither of which he has this yr. Only the QB position is his fault. His QB was a Heisman finalist last season and his WR won the Belitnikoff award. Those accomplishments don't align with a poor OC. It makes a least just a bit of time for Whip to turn this around...and a OLine coach of his choosing.

One thing that REALLY helped that Pitt offense last season was exceptional Oline play, which will never happen while Donovan Raiola is the Oline coach.

Every coach in America looks good when they have good players... Good coaches take what they have and make them better and schemes to reduce their weakness... There lies the problem.

This next week we will see what kind of gameplan is put together. This is a good test of MJ's leadership. He has to be able to give direction to his OC and have that guy come up with a viable plan.

I think Whip is a bit inflexible.. but he better pull something out of his hat to get the offense working for the rest of the season.

Everything starts with the OL. Until that is sorted out I’m not convinced Sean McVay would be a successful OC here

I was REALLY shocked at how poor Purdy played Saturday. I was under the assumption that the QB whisperer was working with him. High school JV play at best went out on the field Saturday. I can not believe that Whip says Purdy preps weekly as if he is the starter. If that is preparing for playing for game time, the program is in a shit load of hurt.

I can not remember if Purdy was Whip's choice, but that was the worst play performance by any QB I have ever seen. There was fear and panic in his play, he was totally out of his element. It was an embarrassment to Whip, MJ, TA, and the entire athletic department. I find it impossible to believe that he has participated in any practices or watched any game film. If Purdy shits down his leg again on Saturday, the team will not win any more games this year.

I think MJ needs to pull the QB room in a private meeting, do a serious reaming, have them do some serious soul-searching, and then determine who wants or can play QB. Time to poop or get off the pot with this entire QB room.

I agree.. I did not see this coming with Purdy. Others have noted a weak arm, but what is showing up, is a kid who is afraid. Just about every time they have put him in he has disintegrated.

I hate to say it, but it looks to me like that dog doesn't hunt, and you're going to have a heck of a time changing that, if that's the case.

If Logan is available, he's a much better option. You just need someone with some confidence to hand the ball off and throw an occasional pass if we are keeping things simple.

MJ was set up for failure on day 1. I hope he can get a job as a recruiter at a winning P5 program. He has a skill set that some program will want

Purdy was trying to play with an injury and supposedly the reason Smothers didn’t come back for the second half was he was injured. People need to cool their jets on bashing some of our players. We don’t know everything going on behind the scenes.
I’ll add that we did come out and try to use the QB run game with Smothers and Purdy. I think Smothers and Purdy could be effective with a more QB RPO based offense than Whip likes to run.
