I don’t recognize college football anymore.

You are worth what somebody will pay you. No more, no less.

If everyone could get that cash, they would
Just had this speech with my 11 year old last night. She asked why certain things cost so much. She glazed over about 5 minutes in though……

I mean, I think it could become a Title IX issue.

How many female athletes are going to get $800,000 per year with a 1.8 million dollar signing bonus?

The really hot ones will. There's a gymnast at LSU that has already made millions in NIL deals, as well as the twin basketball players at Miami.

Not sure. But since they aren’t doing the same job, why should they? I’m fine if they want to try out for the men’s teams.

Olivia Dunne is making more

I'm sure it's not related to her gymnastics performance, but who cares if it comes from NIL or Instagram or Only fans.. it's a Laissez-faire environment.

There are plenty of dumb people who put up money for dumb things, but if it's their money, nobody should have a problem with it.

Counting Only Fans?
No. I think there would be an issue for schools if there is a major disparity in NIL money for male versus female athletes. The feminists would rightly go nuts if the only way for women to reach the same NIL level was to be objects for men on Only Fans.

To our credit, with the way Nebraska supports female athletes, I think we will be one of the best in this regard.

Has it really changed that much?

Transferring, sure but that is really it.

I mean, hearing the stories of AD's drinking and parking anywhere they wanted on campus are tons of fun. That has changed too I guess...

But players have always been paid, it might be MORE now but it has always been going on.

And seeing players transfer really gives you an idea of just how many guys were miserable in their current situation, now they can actually leave.

When the expanded playoff starts, there’s going to be wayyy more opt outs and I’m talking about key players opting out of playoff games. The majority of these kids aren’t committing to schools anymore, they’re committing to dollars along with maybe a relationship to certain coaches.
You think a stud projected top 10 draft pick isn’t going to think twice about playing 3 more football games, likely against the most difficult competition they’ve faced all year when they have million’s waiting for them when they’re not even really committed to the school?

The female athletes, if they want, are making more and it is not even close and it will last much longer for them.

99% of these college dudes will never make money for sports after college.

But a hot female athlete is set for 10+ years.

Subscription snapchat account. 5 dollars a month with 1,000 followers (easy)
Onlyfans account with 10,000 members at 10 dollars a month
Endorsements, influencing, products...

NIL was always going to be interesting but hot females will/are the ones that are cashing in.

It’s a completely anything-goes, mercenary environment right now.

That's great that players today are bigger, faster, stronger. That doesn't improve the product. Bad football is bad football, regardless of how big and fast the players are.
sounds like you watch too much B1G

Schools will need to add a no opt out clause when it comes to playoffs.

Ohio State loses bidding war for recruit:

https://www.si.com/fannation/colleg...-nil-ohio-state-georgia-5-star-recruit-report

From article:

“The unnamed player got an offer in the neighborhood of $800,000 per season to play at Georgia, a figure that doesn't even include a reported signing bonus of $1.8 million more on top of that.”
The only thing that shocks me about this is that the name of the player wasn't revealed in the article.

Otherwise college football, for better or worse and regardless of what fans may think, has become a huge escalating arms race in all aspects. Basically the financials are out of control driven by the huge media rights deals. Obviously it all starts with those mega million dollar contracts given to coaches so then the players naturally want their share of the pie. On top of that the facilities race just adds to it all as the schools try to outdo each other.

you are tilting at windmills here

has there been a single player opt out of the playoffs in 9 years?

Remember in BASEketball, where the game was really great and then slowly, big corporations came in, Remer got corrupted with all the money and fame and then it ruined whole game? Yeah, thats how Ive seen this going for a long time. In a world full of Jenny McCarthys, be a Yasmine Bleeth.

everybody here is still conflating NIL with pay-for-play instead of what it really is - a side job that should've never been disallowed in the first place

I can see how that can lead to confusion

That's why I think eventually it's going to a professional league where the athletes have to sign contracts, that are for so many years and they will get bonuses for playing in playoff games, etc.

correct

Livvy Dunne has made probably $5M from a variety of endorsements. Going to make more than $2M this year alone.

and she doesn't even participate in a popular sport, she's just a savvy business woman (at 19 or 20 - the horror!!!!!!!)

the "amateur athletics" schtick the NCAA shoved down everyone's throat is one of the great ruses of all time - billions upon billions of dollars funneled to a very small organization (tax-free) for decades without having to pay a single cent for the labor it profits from. incredible that anyone bought it in the first place, much less yearns for it now

Remember that it all tracks back to the fans. They drive the TV ratings which drive the media contracts which make the schools rich. Those schools naturally want to compete with the other schools so they use that financial windfall to do just that. And the fans WANT those schools to beat out all the other schools. Yes, as much as we all want to complain about it, us fans are the driver. It can only be managed if there are some agreed to competitive regulations limiting how the schools can compete amongst themselves. Will ALL the fans come to an agreement on that?

During the season i dont see much of a difference. The off season is just impossible to follow these days. I dont even bother

this year's national title game will top last year's in terms of ratings

the fans have already agreed. there has literally never been a time in the history of college football when more people tuned in than today

Someone please explain to me how NIL favors or benefits Nebraska MORE than other schools, i.e Bama, Michigan, tOSU, et all. We might have better resources than say Iowa but I don't really know that. Where is the proof?

How long can this keep going? Is there an endless stream of money? Will sponsors get tired of paying someone like Decoldest and then have them just leave? When does the new wear off? Say what you want about companies and their money but at the end of the day they have to make more, it s return thing.

I know there is the sentiment that now this is the system that rewards those who people want to watch play, I get that but there is a reality here and a bidding war that is about money, not playing. I just don't see this ending well. It is already making me less interested.

Yet College Football attendance has declined for 7 straight years. It is down 4% from 2019.

we need NIL deals for position groups

the (insert company or family name) Offensive line - all the lineman get the deal and then can supplement with other deals

instead of names on buildings - names affiliated with position groups

Every Michigan O-lineman who signs gets a pretty big NIL deal

I think the answer is, yes. Sponsors will get sick of it and the deals will get smaller and smaller.

There will always be super hanger-ons that want to be able to brag about buying players but for the most part, water will find its level.

That's because all the games are on TV these days which drives the media rights payouts. It's a shift in how games are viewed, not enthusiasm for the sport.
really anything that can garner people's attention for the sake of selling advertisements is a home run..

If only fans accepted advertising and porn was normalized, performers would rake in tons more money than they do today..

You could watch JennyX's private session bookmatched by a commercial for Subway and Tide laundry pods... lol

Make/build "frat" houses for the teams/positions. A big ass mansion, hire a cook/cleaning, law care, laundry service and so on. Give them a "salary".

Is it better?
The product is watered down now with 131 teams in Div 1, the haves and the have-nots are 2 separate divisions in one division.

Instant replay on every play is bull shit. Slows down the game and adds probably 30 mins per game.

The targeting penalty needs to be seriously revisited. (Especially in the B1G) Created with good intentions but installed in a very bad way. There is no need for suspension.

DPI needs to be looked at for the passes thrown short with no hope of catching. I've seen many QB's purposefully throwing the pass short to get the first downs or in the last 2 mins to get into scoring position.

Players opting out of bowl games or quitting halfway through the season because of turning pro.

Unlimited transfers are not in the best interest of the game.

NIL just makes the player payments above board now, adds no value to the game.

If there is going to be an expansion of the playoffs, remove the Conference Championship Games to the Power 5 programs, the lower conferences can keep them for the revenue, it is their consolation prize for being a D-1 FBS conference.

That’s because the experience at home far trumps going to any game

Attendance is down throughout all sports (college & pro). Why go when everyone has a 65”er 18 inches from their nose with all the games & ice cold bullets in the fridge

Power 5 and G6 should be separate divisions and each should have their own playoffs and championship games.
