Huskers vs. OSU

Suck on that, Buckeyes. Nice execution on that final play.

OSU Coach to players: How did you guys lose when the refs gift wrapped this game for you!?

Players: I don't know coach. I told the one ref that the Nebraska player looked at me wrong and he didn't call a foul like he did three times before!

Man if Morrow doesnt get hurt this is probably a tourney team ...great win ..stole one for once

Morrow finally looked close to 100% today, although he came up short on that one dunk attempt. Still a bit rusty, but he was moving better than in the past couple of games.

I'm not commenting on the quality of reffing in this particular game but it is a pet peeve of mine when people talk about a disparity in fouls from one team to the other. There is no rule that refs have to keep the number of fouls close. There are occasions when one team simply plays better defense than the other.

Again, not commenting on today's game as I couldn't watch much but please end the "we have 8 more fouls than them!" rant.

Coaches use it from time to time when trying to work refs over but it's simply a tactic to try and get calls your way.

Wow, i will say I feel like the bad luck guy for this game. Out shopping with the family and checked in on my app and the radio. Everytime I turned it on, they woukd start doing horrible so I turned it off. Then I would check back in and the same would happen. Did this about 5 times and the last time was when they went down 5 with like 40 seconds left. Checked yahoo sports app to see how bad it was and seen they won it. Glad I shut it off. Big win.

I agree with you. When NU was settling for jump shots in the first half, they obviously weren't going to draw many fouls. But when that changed and the Huskers started going to the rim, the same level of contact - or more in some cases - that was a foul on the other end, wasn't anymore.

Morrow's 5th foul was one of the worst calls I've seen this year, and that's saying something. Watson's 4th was bad too, but not on the same level of incompetence as that call on Morrow.

I thought Watson's 3rd and 4th were really bad calls.

Yes, but he didn't back completely out of the OSU player's way, with his hands at his sides, and avoid any contact whatsoever. That's exactly what Morrow did, and it still drew a whistle. That was horrible even for a Gene Skeletor-led crew.

His point is still valid. Keeping a tally on fouls is marginal evidence of officiating disparity. I don't doubt what you say at all and agree with it but his point is a good one. I've seen games with that kind of a disparity and it was completely legit.

The point is valid but not for this game. Evenly matched teams taking the same number of 3s. Hustlers were driving to the hoop and not getting the same calls as OSU. Bad refing whether intentional or not.

I hate injuries. This team ended up having a lot of potential when after the non-conference it looked like there was very little potential.

Like the announcers pointed out, this team has the number one strength of schedule in the nation... out of 351 teams.

Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades... but I was still impressed by how we did against some very good teams, even though we lost (Dayton, UCLA, Wisconsin).

It just sucks that we basically play poorly against poor teams and play well against good teams (obviously with a few notable exceptions). With how we played and beat a couple good teams, we showed that we definitely have the ability to be a good team.

Hopefully Miles will get them over the hump next year. Losing Webster will hurt, but the young talent will hopefully turn into very skilled players that have played in a ton of close games and will know how to finish.

Well, this thread is still 19 posts short of making a 3rd page so we suck as fans  lol
I'm just hoping to get Brownie points for starting the thread. I was on very thin ice after reporting that Roby probably wasn't going to play - which was really secret code for, "I want us to lose today and every game the rest of the year, so Tim Miles will get fired!"

Losing Webster won't be the end of the world, he rarely hits shots from the outside and he turns the ball over plenty of times when it's the most crucial part of the game..

His strength is driving to the basket and getting to the foul line which helps his .431 FG pct.

He is 32-109 for a .294 pct from three.

True, but the 2017-18 Huskers badly need another ball-handler in addition to Watson. Taylor is below average, Gill appeared to be as well, and nobody else can dribble against his own shadow. Are there some other good candidates to fill this role? Lots of talent on next year's roster, but this seems to be a need.

We're gonna miss Tai big time. He does so much more than score. Great team guy and he defends pertty well IMO and rebounds. That said, Evan Taylor has played way better than he started the season and hopefully Gill comes back like he was playing when his season ended.

He's still pretty much consistently the leading scorer, and with Watson being injured, he is the best guy at taking it to the rim which breaks down the defense. Does he make some mistakes? Sure, that happens when you ard the best player on the team, the other team knows it. He is depended on by his team to make things happen, and is targeted by the other team. His loss next year will be ENORMOUS shoes to fill IMO.

I think Gene Sarastore should stick with the NFL gig, give up his black Nike's and stick to the game he is pretty good at, huge win for the big red taking one away on the road, we are a pretty good team when healthy, go big red...................

Roby says hi... Not to mention Nana and Palmer can handle it a bit

I will give you credit for saying we need another true pg though, because that is true.

Tai's strength in driving to the hoop not only gets him to the foul line, but also opens up the entire floor to create spacing and an opportunity for an open shot (dump off in the lane or 3-pointer). A defense that needs to collapse on someone driving the lane also opens up offensive rebound opportunities. That helps Jacobsen with all the offensive boards (and the fact that he has a good grasp of rebounding technique). We saw that tonight when OSU guards drove the lane and we had 2-3 guys collapse, and when they missed the shot there was an easy put back.

Turnovers are a problem. Seems to be too many unforced turnovers (bad pass, gets his pocket picked, etc.). Turnovers driving to the lane are a bit more forgivable.

I love Roby and think he'll have a great career at Nebraska. But he has an assist-to-turnover ratio of .58 to 1 and commits way too many turnovers for the number of minutes he plays. Those numbers will surely improve next year, but I still don't expect his ball handling to be a big asset. Horne's ball handling will also probably improve next year but there will be a good opportunity for someone not currently in the rotation to step into that role.

And everyone thought there was no way to replace Shields and White last year. This happens in basketball for every team every season. Players develop and take over more leadership. Look at Buddy Hield from OU a year ago. I am not sure if people predicted that kind of a breakout performance in his senior season. Look at Webster here. He was hovering around 10 points per game and shot up to 18/19 this year.

Watson's game will continue to blossom. Morrow will probably be a 15/10 type player in a couple years. Jordy can be 10/8 guy next year.

A lot of talent waiting to shine.

Hell McVeigh went from being buried in the depth chart and riding pine earlier this year to a crucial piece of this team.

I was only able to see the last few seconds of the game, but I'm glad they let Watson take the last shot. I love Tai, but he seems to have struggled some with the ball in his hands at the end of a few games lately.

I guessed you missed early this year when Roby played point some, I believe it was the first game after the transfer from Louisville got hurt. Miles talked about how Roby is a great facilitator and you saw that when he played the middle against zone defense. He's just played nervous this year and once he gets comfortable you will see a complete turn around in that stat.

The kid is playing hurt, he kept us in that game the first half. He also was the defender that shut down the last play by denying the handoff which caused Tate to pick up his dribble.

Loving just did a full-blown triple jump without dribbling, came down with the ball, and no travel call. Another gift two points.

"full blown triple jump" that was funny, if you had wrote triple axle I would have been on the floor. ;-)

I was not aware of that.

Seems crazy in college to have a small forward (out of high school) playing point guard at 6'8", but if he is a great ball handler, athletic enough, good facilitator etc, it would be like LeBron taking the ball up the court.

I just looked up tall point guards...not as uncommon as I thought: Shaun Livingston 6'7", Penny Hardaway 6'7", and Magic Johnson 6'8".

It must suck to be a "fan" who only engages in hoops conversations when the team loses. Where are all the haters? It's seriously like they are frustrated when the team gets a win so they have to hide in their basements.
