How many brackets do you guys fill out? ..and who's in your final 4?

I watched way more NCAA wrestling than March Madness this weekend. College BB has turned into watching the same play over and over by every single team. There are 25 different variations of a high screen, with a kick out to either 2 wings or 1 corner shooter. Getting kind of boring.

I still enjoy college BB, but I don’t disagree with you. The game is overcoached and micromanaged, and nobody seems to know how to get open without a screen. Probably makes some of the legendary coaches turn over in their graves.

What ?Phog Allen and Wooden made a Living of he Pick( screen) and roll.

Sometimes, but not every single possession. Their players also knew how to keep the ball moving. Bob Knight never wanted two defenders in the same area. And then there’s Abe Lemons, who famously said, “There are only two plays gentlemen - Romeo and Juliet, and put the ball in the damn basket.”

What's the point of calling a timeout if you don't end up running some sort of set play at the end of a game? Most of the time it ends up being hero ball with a contested shot. Pure trash.

There is rarely a pick and roll these days beyond the high screen at the top of the key. Believe it or not, a pick and roll can be used all over the place in a half court setting. But to be most effective, this requires more of a motion offense where all 5 offensive players are moving, cutting to the basket, and causing enough motion that it causes confusion/chaos by the defense. It could be that the 30-second clock has limited the ability to do that type of offense because sometimes it takes a fair amount of movement for an offense to get the defense out of position. It could also be that coaches out think themselves. It might be just me, but I don't often see many offenses that run players through the lane, down the lane, or pass & screen away.

Edit: A motion offense allows all 5 players on the court to be an offensive "threat" to score. It could be a layup or a short jumper within a few feet of the basket. You have to account for all 5 players. Now it seems each team has nothing but specialists. An example is Nebraska this year with Juwan Gary. While he could occasionally hit some 3-pointers (and when he did, we were in a lot of ball games) but his greatest strength was scoring around the basket. Would have been nice to see some sets where Gary could either have cut to the basket or get the ball in the low post (after player movement) where he could take advantage of his ability to score close to the hoop.

1. Pretty chalky. I think Houston finally breaks through and wins the title. Great tournament so far. There at least 10 schools that can with this thing.

I would like Houston's chances better if they didn't have to essentially play a road game next - at media/selection committee darling Purdue. Good luck getting any favorable whistles in that game.

I'm almost* sorry Wisconsin lost last weekend, or Alabama would have put this ass-whipping on them.

*Key word being almost

I have them picked to win it all, but they didn't impress me at all tonight.

I'm going to predict now that Alabama shoots around 25% from 3 point range against Duke just because they couldn't miss last game. It never fails. 😂 I think it’s the first time ever that I'll be cheering for Duke.

This was too predictable. 🔮

They shot 25% because they haven't faced a defense like that all season. Duke has crazy length at all positions.
Yep it helps when you actually challenge the shot which for some reason BYU didn’t. I would Ike to see Izzo knock of Auburn then the SEC with all the teams and hype will only get 1 in the Final 4.

Not a Sampson fan, but I guess I’ll pull for Houston to win it all now. They went on the road and beat The Floppers, and now they’re crapping in the SEC’s punchbowl.

Duke looking like the favorite, though.

I do one. Uno. 1 ...always thought it was silly to do more but thats just me.

I'm taking Auburn and Duke in final 4 for sure, not sure bout my other 2 yet.

Who ya got??
I filled out one bracket. I have Auburn and Florida on the left side of my bracket and on the right side, Duke with my only miss so far Kentucky (as I write this MSU and Auburn has not yet started). I think the overwhelming best team in the tournament so far has been Duke, but I picked them to lose to Florida in the title game. My thinking was because the Duke relies on two freshmen so much, Cooper and Kon, that they would wilt under pressure. So far, they both have been excellent.

I was 14-2 in both the women's and the men's Sweet 16

I loved wrestling this year. College basketball is still fun to watch, but Im getting tired of all the traveling they get away with. Its almost as bad as the nba.

Duke was clearly the better team. Kudos to houston.
I am a NC fan so I hate Duke . But I don’t like seeing coaches ( Sampson ) get rewarded for being a sleeze ball. He cheated at OU and Indiana . Got show cause penalties against him. Now he very well may win a Natty on Monday because his way is now legal. I remember Bob Knight talking about Calaperia . He put UMASS and Memphis on probation. He went to Kentucky and Bob said how is a guy like this still coaching. Now their way is legal. Just pathetic what the game has become.

I can’t stand Duke but damn did they have a squad. If they stayed to be sophomores and juniors they’d be one of the best teams ever. But the freshmen showed up in that last two mins

Couple standup humans coaching in the title game. One was almost permanently banned from basketball and one is stalking and sending d*** picks to co-eds at school.

Brett_McMurphy (@Brett McMurphy) posted: NCAA tourney win pct. entering Monday’s title game via @TomFornelli

Big 12 70% (14-6) - about as expected
SEC 63% (22-13) - overblown (like football) espn-propped asset
Big Ten 62% (13-8) - better than expected
ACC 56% (5-4) - turned into a one team show
West Coast 50% (2-2) - zags miss sweet 16 for first time in a long time
Big East 44% (4-5) - surprisingly poor showing
MWC 33% (2-4) - two wins not bad
MAAC, MVC, Southland & SWAC (all 50%) 1-1 - oh well
