Im thinking he would be right behind frazier and gill, and in front of taylor
he seems to have all the tools of a option qb.. although I haven't seen him pitch much.
but he's got wheels and could hit a pass every once in a while.
^^underrated postWhich brings me to my next point kids,............
I would love to see him in Willie Fritz's offense at Georgia Southern. Shotgun/Pistol formations with a lot of different option concepts.....Triple. Read, Speed. I got laughed at last year when I said Nebraska should have looked at him for HC. Not the most sexy name on the market, but the guy has won big everywhere he's coached and his offense was perfect for the personel we have on offense. But yeah well.... Let's all enjoy WCO version 2.0.
I absolutely love the option game, but I'm not convinced TA would excel at it. He obviously hasn't been given the chance, but you have to have a knack for it, perfect timing, quick decision-making, and physical toughness.
Crouch was a master.
lol, so true.. remember the days when people's concern was who was hogging the ball more.. those were the daysIs it really running the option, if you never pitch the ball?
Crouch might have been the greatest QB bootleg QB ever.
Crouch has admitted that MANY of those QB draws and QB keeps were not called plays. He said he used to get to the line of scrimmage, look at the defense and say "screw it this play ain't gonna work" so he would just improvise and take off. Fans were screaming at Frank for calling another QB draw when in fact that wasn't even the play call.Is it really running the option, if you never pitch the ball?

I've seen TA run some very very nice traditional option at NU and we should probably run more of it. He would have been VERY good with TO's offense and Turner and TO coaching it. The kid is just as fast if not faster than TF was. TF was not a burner either. TA is a better passer than TF was and Tom would have eaten defenses alive with play action off the option with TA. That said, there is NOBODY out there in coaching running anything like the offense that Tom ran. There are option coaches and teams, but we won't ever go back to the "good old days" because nobody coaches offense anymore like TO did.He is not fast enough, nor is he elusive enough to be a true danger himself. He is not very good at ball handling or quick decision making either. That being said, we should run the option 5-6 times a game to give our opponents something to take time practicing on.

Agree. Imagine Frank's offense with Joe Dailey at QB and that offensive line he left behind. Franks last few recruiting classes were ranked in the 40s and it showed. It really doesn't matter when it works. Crouch carried the State of Nebraska on his back for years. He delivered hits at the QB position, then bounced right up and ran back to the huddle for the next round. An absolute warrior like college football hasn't seen since.
Without Crouch, we would have seen the Solich era end much sooner. Crouch masked the problems that were creeping into the system.
I dunno about that. TO drilled his offense to the point that the decisions for the QB were almost automatic. There were generally so few decisions to make in the passing game that it was either he's open or he's not cuz often there was only one or two guys in a pattern off of play action. I think TA would have handled that with Tom and TG coaching him. Moot point but fun discussion. He would be the exact same QB just making different head scratching decisions.
