Thought I had read Kiffin got that job the day before now that I think about it? That will make for some uncomfortable meetings in the 'Bama film room, right up until he leaves for LSU OC job, which I think is a given now.
I cannot think of a kid who ever got screwed worse than him when it comes to his playing career in CFB. In every way, he was many times more effective than Simms when he played, yet time and time again, Mack kept trotting Simms out there because he looked the part. Always seemed like a great kid and a class act.
So are some saying Applewhite can do well and be Tx next head coach; if the newest slips on the rug under him.I don't think Kiffin was passed over because Major was the better coach.
The brass at UH wanted to include a HUGE buyout in Kiffin's contract. To the tune of $10 mil if he left for another job within the next 3-5 years. I think that was the sticking point.
I am not sure Applewhite is the hot commodity that Herman or Kiffin was/is so he will need time to prove he can be a good head coach. So the buyout wasn't nearly as expensive or prohibitive for Applewhite.
IMHO.
Off the field definitely made a poor choice ...sleeping with a trainer while your pregnant wife is at home isnt wiseI cannot think of a kid who ever got screwed worse than him when it comes to his playing career in CFB.
