Holgorsen Now in Lincoln

I heard Nick Saban and Urban Meyer are in town too.

If that's the style of offense we're going to go with, Rhule is a fraud and just tells fans what they want to hear about being a physical ball control team that huddles and wears teams down. Nebraska Football will never consistently be good if they try to be some wannabe pro style offense with zero run game.

If true it does show Rhule’s complete disconnect of how to win in the BIG. Air raid offense coupled with a 3-3-5 defense screams BIG XII team to me. I suppose the thinking is that we have Baby Mahomes, might as well run the style of offense Mahomes ran in college.

At 35:57 Carriker mentions a rumor of Holgorsen in Lincoln to help out.

Interesting to bring in a Leach disciple when you want to presumably run the ball more consistently. Regardless, Holgorsen’s skullet can coach circles around this staff if true.

Dana may be an air raid guy, but he flat knows football. These stats are just from memory, so they could be off a little, but I recently read he has had a RB rush for at least 750 yards every year as a HC, and has had multiple backs go over 1,000 yards.

Typically air raid offenses see a lot of 5 man boxes given that they’re 4 receivers wide. So yeah rushing yards can definitely be had in that system. Still would be a curious decision if it is indeed what’s happening.

He was a big part of implementing the full diamond pistol formation when he was oc at Oklahoma State and they were peak. I'll give you that he likes to emphasize run more than some other air raid coaches, if the numbers are there in the box.

Besides Mullen, I think Holgersen is the best shot we've got to produce an exciting offense as long as Rhule is the HC. So sure, why the hell not.

I’m not even sure Raiola can compete with Jackson mahomes

Holgorson has probably forgotten more football than dumb ass Satt even knows
Sarr’s problem no doubt isn’t that he doesn’t know the X’s and O’s It’s that he can’t apply what he knows.

I listened to a former NFL coach explain why coordinators who get fired kept getting hired by other teams. He said that calling defenses and offensive plays is a very specific skill that few coaches can handle so even if a guy gets canned his experience as a play caller is going to land him a new gig.

OP, maybe edit your thread title to "Holgorsen officially in Lincoln." Didn't want to step on your thread by starting a new one. Here's a link to a 3 year old article that gives me some hope: https://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2019/4/5/18285271/dana-holgorsen-offense-houston

Money quote: "Holgorsen made a name for himself with several distinctions and innovations. For starters, he emphasized the run game considerably more than Leach and featured a 1,000-yard rusher more often than not. His offenses included a lot of extra features to boost the run game. Holgo became known as the rare air raid coach who ran the ball."

Didn't follow him at Houston so obviously the wheels came off somehow!

Interesting. Two really good coaches, but with very different philosophies than our current coordinators.

Snow ran a 4-3 at Temple and a 3-3-5 at Baylor. How he used the 3-3-5 compared to White I have no idea. For example Iowa State has ran 3-3-5 for several years now, but uses it in a completely different fashion compared to us.

It's actually a super simple offense at the core of it.
this is true

Leach's quarterback coaching philosophy famously started and ended with:

"You, the guy with the ball. Throw it to the guy who's open".

or

"Well, just throw it to the guy who's fricking open!"

Dana’s offensive philosophy and use of the air raid is not even close to what Leachs was .Dana likes to use the run . sometimes you have to pass first to do that.

Not really Snow ran a 3-3-5 at Baylor with Rhule . And Holgerson is nothing like Leach on his air raid stuff . Look at his time at Oklahoma state and West Virginia.they ran the ball a lot.
they ran the ball from 2014-2016 at west va

other than those 3 years, his offenses have ranked comfortably outside the top half in the country in rushing

they always score points, though. so that's a plus.
