Holgerson Will Call Plays

No kidding, why try to be cheap? Just ****ing pay the guy.

Like I alluded to it depends on how petty Holgerson is and how much he wants to milk from Houston. If we pay him $2 million that’s $2 million less Houston would have to pay. It’s similar in principle to how Rhule’s contract was written, so he could milk every last penny from his buyout in Carolina.

Sure, if it is his idea to take less, go for it.

You never disappoint with your “interesting” takes. Holgerson was mediocre at running a program and failed miserably his last year at Houston. So you want to pay out 50 million to Rhule to go away and hire a guy probably best suited to be an OC and not a head coach? Rhule isn’t going anywhere for a long time. He likely gets a minimum of 2 more years unless next year is a complete disaster. Trev tied our hands with that 8 year contract @ 8M per.
I don’t know why you always fail to read.. please see the very first sentence.. it’s all just hypothetical talk.. I would rather run the ball 70% of the time, but we got DH for a few games, so I am spitballing stuff.. geez

I read. It’s a ridiculous idea.

Rhule created a potential pickle for himself.

IF the offense struggles again, and for 3 games, it turns up the future heat on him and shows very little progress in Year 2. And the same late season collapse in back to back years.

IF NU comes out and plays some of their best offensive ball of the year people are gonna be saying he blew the year by keeping Satt at OC and not finding a way to hire Dana early when he showed.

It makes people wonder what the NU team might have been like if DH was the HC and not Matt.

If we win 2 of the next 3 we’ll be singing praise for Rhule and begin overdosing on hopium for next year.

I personally wouldn’t want Holgorsen as HC, and I’m one of the most honest here about Rhule’s limitations.

It's also advantageous of the coach. Keeps resources available at current employer and who gives two bucks about prior employers?

Dana’s tenure as a head coach at Houston ended messily. I don’t think anyone is going to wonder what if about him being our head coach.

Things can’t go much worse for us offensively these last 3 games. IF it doesn’t go well these last 3 most people will realize that 3 games with 8-9 practices before the first game isn’t a legitimate test. It’s a bold move to do this now. Thomas couldn’t compensate for Satterfield’s tendencies. I believe Rhule realized that weeks ago. This didn’t happen over night. This no doubt started no later than after the IU game.

It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out but I’m not all that worried about the “what ifs”. We needed a different play caller. Rhule went out and brought in a good one mid season.

You realize I was using 3 different scenarios?
9 games is mid-season?

Yes I understand that but Rhule didn’t just wake up 6 days ago and decide he was going to bring in Dana and Dana didn’t just decide to move to Lincoln the minute Rhule offered him the OC job. I strongly believe Rhule tried to hire Dana last spring as well but they couldn’t agree on terms. My gut says it was over him being named OC and giving him complete control of the offense.

As I stated, I believe Rhule made the decision to bring someone else in no later than the IU loss and he was at the point where he knew he was going to have to cut Satt before the end of the year. Rhule was clearly unhappy with the play calling after IU which was obvious by some of Satt’s public comments. Hence, mid season IMO.

Both your posts, #89 and this one are filled with conjecture.

It makes no sense that Dana was gonna play second banana to a low level play caller like Satt when he and Matt talked in the spring. When Dana walked away, he held all the cards in this hand. Matt would have known the only way he was going to eventually get Dana is by offering him the OC job.

Dana allowed both Satt and Matt to fail, assuming if and when Rhule called him back, he was gonna get the OC job regardless.

If Matt was serious about winning, he would have found a way to make this week's move work back in the spring. He didn't and here we are. Instead of hiring him from a position of strength, he's hiring him from a position of weakness.

I think DH is a really good, proven play caller, who lacks the overall mindset to be a really good Head Coach. He has too many personal hangups that defeats him. I remember reading about his exploits from back when he left Okie State. Dude is a total flake.

It’s all conjecture but my take is logical. It was clear that we were vetting and recruiting Dana last spring.

Conjecture and opinons are not that far apart from each other.
We all use conjecture and opinions daily on this site on different topics.

It's all good.

800k is around the ballpark I think NU would pay him if he stays on. No need to pay him the equivalent or more of Satt’s salary when he’s simultaneously getting paid by Houston.
Refreshing to have another college program paying part of our OC’s salary. It’s unfortunate that we’re on the hook still for Satt’s.
