Hmmmmm...Run pass ratios of good teams

At least the prior staff knew how to use Armstrong and play to his strengths. This current staff, has not done that.

Our best offensive weapons are Westerkamp, Reilly, Moore, Carter and Morgan. We have no RB, we haven't the day Abdullah played his last game in scarlet and cream. The current staff is trying to get the ball in the hands of our best weapons. From series to series, it's either good Tommy or bad Tommy. And on this specific series, it was good Tommy up till the 4th down play.

Therein lies the problem. Where there is good Tommy, bad Tommy is not far behind. This will not change.

I'm guessing you don't know much about linebacker play. The OLB is still in perfect position here to get to the flat. He jams the first guy to the inside (important so he still has outside leverage) and then can slide into the flat and Tommy has to throw over his head. (And we know how good Tommy is on the touch pass.) Or the call can be to run a delayed blitz which is exactly what he did. So now pre-snap Tommy was supposed to know he would come on a delayed blitz thus leaving Carter wide open? Once again ridiculous.

This is not some new amazing play that your buddy Langs dreamed up that can't be covered. It gets run all the time...and the OLB covers the flat. Watch a game or two on Saturdays and Sundays and you will see OLB's hitting the first receiver and sliding to the flat.

Ah yeah, I don't know WTF I'm talking about, it's more than obvious you dug your feet in and can't accept reality. It's only that Westerkamp and Cross know exactly what they're doing, but I don't. Give me a freaking break with your bullshit. For a dude that claims he played football at an Ivy school, your football IQ is ridiculously low.

You telling me to watch a game on Saturday and Sunday is beyond hilarious. I don't need to watch another game in my life to know the first read is the bunch set, each read goes off the other without impacting the timing of the deep ball. That is a basic 4th grade read, to what Io_a's defense showed.

Right but this was not fixable until now. And O'Brien is just beginning his journey, we'll see where it ends. I hope he comes is as a good decisionmaker that can just smartly distribute the football, even if we lack huge plays downfield.

Madden 14 or 15?

We have a couple former D1 LBs here (and a FS), and a HS DC. Was discussing this AM.

Said it was a great play call, poor read and decision by Armstrong. Carter should have had a chance to house it.

One thing that's kind of refreshing from these guys is that none of them grew up Nebraska fans. They kind of look at football as football, and not through the lens of, lets see how close to 1997 we can get running the football. Its amazing how much less consternation there is from those guys about what is "reasonable" and what your average Kool Aid guy wants to see happen.

I follow with what you are saying, but having TA throw over the middle and short screens are not exactly his strong suit either. The passing game is much more sophisticated than the prior year. I still think they could have tailored things a bit better for him.

The RB situation has been strange all year. It was as if they were doing live auditions week to week. I still feel Ozigbo has the most potential from what was shown this year and hope they can settle on a true depth chart at that position next season.

If they can figure out a way to get the screen game/dump off to the RB going next year, then it's just like a running play in my book.

You never know when to STFU, and enjoy the taste of your own feet...

Benning makes my point. It's not reading the defense and saying Carter would be open. Why? Because the olb was in perfect presnap position . Then if he isn't blitzing he is in the flat. Tommy still should have went to Carter in hopes he breaks free fro the olb. This idea that he should have thrown to Carter because he was open is dumb.

Those who played and coached generally understand player responsibilities. Others can talk about clandestine meeting in basements.

Step your game up Tom, the OLB isn't in good position pre-snap, plus he takes himself out of flat duty immediately. A former player says Tommy screwed up, a former (D2?) coach says Tommy screwed up but here you are, trolling with a pair of feet in your mouth.

Isn't the bigger issue with the fourth down call the fact that we were going for it as opposed to kicking a FG in the first place? Kick the FG, get the points, extend the game.

As much of a Tommy supporter I am. This post could not be more true. Every weekend after a good solid play. I'm like this is the week it comes together. Then when you least expect it. Disaster...lol....the last 3 games cost him a chance at Offensive Player of the year. IMO. The stats where there until he threw 9 INTs

I think Tommy may be the only player with over 3000 yds in the regular season.

The play happened right in front of me and it looked obvious to me that the OLB wasn't covering anbody. He was coming and even if he didn't Carter would have had at least a step.

Read your own stuff.

1. Benning says EXACTLY what I have been saying. This has nothing to do with reading the defense...nothing. He states, "It doesn't have anything to do with reading a D." He also says, "Poor awareness. Not about reading a defense."

2. The idea that Dingle and you are stating that Tommy should have seen the TE was going to be wide open is dumb. As I have repeatedly said, Carter would have been the best choice with that stupid play call...not because Tommy should have read he was going to be uncovered...but because we want the match-up with him on the OLB.

People can go ahead and keep talking about reading the OLB blitzing or being out of position or not having the responsibility in the flat. As Benning says, that "reading" has nothing to do with that play.

1. I will remind you what I said, on page 3...

HuskerTimOmaha said:
Tommy is right on the 0 coverage read, that's what you want for a deep ball, he has to actually understand the importance of the play which is keep the chains moving.

2. Moot point.

No shit Sherlock, I said it on page 3. Your little games aren't working with me, step it up.
