Helfrich out at Oregon

If I'm Tennessee, I would've had Helfrich on the phone last night to come and run the offense in Knoxville.

I can't see them hiring guys like Rich Rod or Brian Kelly. Heck both have had just as bad seasons this year, Rich Rod has been worse and Kelly's crowing achievement is coaching the National Championship game in 2012, while Helfrich coached in it in 2014. They are going to have to get a hot up and comer, steal away a big name or bring back Chip Kelly.

I would be surprised if its Chip Kelly. He doesn't strike me as a guy that is going to admit defeat. By quitting and going back to college he would essentially be doing.

I am also not sure teams have figured out that tempo offense. I think the lack of QB was a big issue in their offensive struggles.

Not to derail the conversation but the tempo they run/ ran serves two purposes. It does tire the defense out but more importantly it keeps teams from substituting and in bad match ups. Oregon was fantastic at running the same play over and over once they got a defense in that bad match up.

The biggest issue is they have to be able to get defensive stops to get the ball back. Teams will play ball control to rest their defense. If they allow teams to keep the ball AND score they had no chance. That and QB play was why Oregon had an unsuccessful season.

It will be a nice landing spot for someone. Buckets of $$$ and talent on the roster.

Big boy programs make big boy moves.

I agree. Seriously doubt Art gets a call. He's got waaayyyy too much baggage. It's just a matter of time before some reporter or group of reporters figure out how he was involved in allowing that culture at Baylor.

Anyway, another name just popped into mind...would Oregon dial up Colorado's McIntyre despite being in conference?

Whoever it is, get ready for a splash in the ocean. Phil Knight has so much freaking money and he got it all from making genius business decisions in his life. The only times I can think of where Knight missed was his team not signing Stephen Curry and Jordan Spieth to Nike. That, and handing the Phil Knight U reigns to Helfrich.

One thing I know is that this hire will be a coach who understands Nike branding because this hire is just as important to Knight's brand as it is to winning on the field.
