Let me lend some reasoned and sensible perspective to this rather low brow debate.
Iowa and, to a greater extent Wisconsin, have had a better (or at the very least, equal) program than Nebraska since we joined the BIG. We have failed to live up to our legacy since joining, and were struggling to hold onto a legacy in our last years in the Big 12.
I live in Chicago and have many good friends who are die hard Wiscy and Iowa fans. I love their passion and I am happy for them that they have experienced the success they have in the past several years, specifically my Wiscy friends. When they talk smack to me, I let them. It doesn't really bother me all that much.
See, as a fan who has been to the mountain top and seen its beauty I have something they can only dream about. They try to tear our program down by skewering me with our recent failures. Yet, when they look in the mirror and celebrate their greatest achievements as a program, their memories are limited to a conference championship or a great bowl victory.
They know that they have reached the pinnacle of their program's success and yet have still failed to achieve true greatness. They have no counter to my observation that both Iowa and Wiscy may be good enough to win the West over a downtrodden sleeping giant, but they know in their heart of hearts that their programs will never cut it on the grand stage.
You can only go so far with the talent both Iowa and Wiscy attract. I admire their coaches and their abilities to maximize and recognize talent. Yet, I also never would aspire to be like their programs. Their style and recruiting will only ever get them so far.
What I know is that we can and have achieved great success. What I know is that deep down Iowa and Wiscy fans fear what we can become - what, I believe we will become.
So, i bite my tongue, I praise their limited successes and I bide my time until this Big Red machine gets humming once more. In Frost I trust.
