Gerry did not kill it at the combine.

Thought he was much faster than that. Iowa's TE ran that two days ago.

The bench press is so worthless, I can't believe they still use it.
I learned this all the way back in high school. Freshman year we had a lineman that was short, heavy and bench pressed over 300. I was a tall, relatively skinny kid at 6'1 175 and bench pressed about 200. Every time I lined up against him in drills I drove him backward. Leverage and quickness were far more important. After that was lower body strength.

Gerry's VJ is a huge disappointment. I think he jumped higher as a freshman. This is only 1 guy but it makes me wonder if we're developing "explosion" in S&C or not.
IMO Gerry was almost maxed out physically when he got to NU. Remember he started at linebacker his freshman year before moving back to safety. He put on a little weight during his time at NU, but the kid showed up on campus absolutely ripped.

Because they never blow smoke about a guy trying to lower his draft stock hoping him to get him later in the draft? The NFL network guys that I heard comment on him were not nearly as critical of him as what I've read on this board. We'll find out what they really think on draft day. I do remember posting that after his class dodging that he might not get drafted at all but being "stiff" in drills isn't as big of a deal for a head hunter like Gerry as it would be for a corner.
Head hunter?

He still should have improved with physical maturity. He didn't gain that much weight. That's an excuse I think.

He was pretty mature physically when he hit Lincoln. He was just one of those kids that didn't have a lot more upside physically, I could be wrong but I think he was 19 when he graduated from high school. Go back and watch the video of him running the 100 M in high school. The kid was just a monster.

Our whole defense is terrible at tackling. That's coaching.
It's also not being in position to tackle. That can be coaching, phyical ability or mental errors. If you're reaching or having to try to make tackles in open space, you're going to probably look like you don't know how to tackle. In general, our athleticism was not where it needed to be and that will no doubt show up in how you tackle.

Head hunter?

yes. He likes to hit. It's a figure of speech not a literal term.

You do realize what the knucklehead was trying to do there right? He as trying to lay a hit on the ball and knock it out. Obviously when he put his head down to try to get his shoulder on the ball the ball carrier made him miss. Terrible technique and stupid play. I bet he's seen that clip more than a few times.
