About 2017 Purdue Football
Purdue has shown dramatic improvement under first-year head coach Jeff Brohm. The Boilermakers enter Saturday's game with a 3-4 record. The Boilermakers have already tied their highest season win total since a 6-6 campaign in 2012.

Purdue has won three of its four games against unranked opponents. Purdue has had a chance to win or tie in the fourth quarter in each of their four losses, three of which have come to top-20 opponents. Purdue held a lead with under 10 minutes to play in a season-opening loss to then-No. 16 Louisville. In its conference opener, Purdue trailed then-No. 8 Michigan by only four points in the fourth quarter before the Wolverines pulled away for a 28-10 win. Two weeks ago, Purdue drove inside the Wisconsin 10-yard line trailing by eight with less than 10 minutes to play before an interception spoiled any hopes of a Boilermaker upset in a 17-9 loss to the then-No. 7 Badgers. Last week at Rutgers, Purdue failed to convert on a two-point conversion with 25 seconds remaining that would have tied the game in what ended up a 14-12 loss to the Scarlet Knights.

Purdue has split time between quarterbacks David Blough and Elijah Sindelar, with Sindelar earning four starts -- including two straight -- and Blough making three starts. Sindelar has thrown for a team-high 907 yards, while Blough leads Purdue with eight touchdown passes. The Boilermakers average only 146.6 rushing yards per game, but ran more than a quarter of their season's yards last week when they ran for 279 yards at Rutgers despite being without leading rusher Tario Fuller.

Defensively, Purdue has forced 15 turnovers , its highest total since 2001. The Boilermakers rank 26th nationally in scoring defense by allowing an average of 19.3 points per game, an improvement by 19 points per game from 2016, when Purdue ranked 117th in scoring defense at 38.3 points per game.

Last Time Out: October 22, 2016: Nebraska 27, Purdue 14

Nebraska's victory over Purdue won't convince skeptics who've been saying the No. 8 Cornhuskers aren't worthy of a top-10 ranking.

The wait to find out how good they really are is almost over.

In their final tuneup before their Big Ten West showdown at No. 10 Wisconsin, they came back from a four-point halftime deficit to beat the Boilermakers 27-14 Saturday.

Once again, and this time against a 24-point underdog, the Huskers (7-0, 4-0 Big Ten) underperformed against a lesser opponent until pulling away in the second half. Still, they'll take their best record since 2001 into the game in Madison.

Tommy Armstrong Jr. accounted for 303 yards of total offense and two touchdowns while Purdue managed only 94 yards in the second half in interim coach Gerad Parker's first game after the firing of Darrell Hazell.

After last year's 55-45 loss to the Boilermakers, fans at Memorial Stadium were stunned into silence as Purdue took a 14-10 lead at halftime on two touchdown passes from David Blough to DeAngelo Yancey. But the Huskers then scored on three straight possessions after going three and out on the first possession of the second half.

Nebraska ended the day with 409 yards of total offense (252 pass, 157 rush) while Purdue totaled 333 yards (309 pass, 24 rush). Purdue committed two turnovers to Nebraska's one. Nebraska edged Purdue in time of possession 33:19 to 26:41.

Tommy Armstrong ended the day going 17-of-31 for 252 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT, while also adding 51 yards rushing on 10 carries and a TD. Terrell Newby was the leading Husker rusher with 22 carries for 82 yards. Alonzo Moore also added two carries for 24 yards and a TD. Brandon Reilly was the leading receiver with four catches for 73 yards while De'Mornay Pierson-El had three catches for 69 yards and a TD to lead Nebraska.

For Purdue, David Blough was 25-of-43 for 309 yards with 2 TDs and 1 INT. Markell Jones had 10 carries for 36 yards to lead on the ground. The leading Purdue receivers were DeAngelo Yancey with four catches for 100 yards and 2 TDs and Bilal Marshall with five catches for 84 yards.
