Game 2, South Alabama predictions

Is this a game where you want backups in? Don't you want the starters to keep learning the offense?

In a crazy turn of events a torrential downpour causes the field to be almost unplayable. Players are slipping and falling all over the turf with no offense being established. Nebraska kicks a fg and gets a safety in the first half. S. Alabama gets a cheap safety when Langsdorf tells TA to throw from the 2 yard line with under a minute left...5-2, Nebraska with the closest blowout ever recorded.

South Alabama 34
Nebraska 13

My prediction: Nebraska wins by 24. Everyone thinks we've righted the ship for a week, then we get waxed @ Miami. Chaos ensues. And we're back here on September 20th having the same discussions/arguments whether Riley is the right man for the job.

If you think You can judge a team by one game...then look at how we played last week. Miami is good enough to wax us if we play like that.
Miami didn't look good last week either. They just played Bethune-bethune cookman and they might lose tonight to FAU.

It depends entirely on how big a blowout and you certainly don't want to risk Tommy getting hurt. Can you imagine the uproar from the fanbase if Riley leaves Tommy in a 35-3 game in order to "learn the offense" and he tears an ACL?

If we play like what? BYU is a much better team than Miami. I think Miami could beat us, because they're going to be pumped up and they have a good QB, but we didn't play that bad last week and we should have won.

This game won't be close. I'm very interested to see whether Riley steps on their throats or lets up in order to coast.

I think Riley is the kind of guy who will step on your throat and say sorry for stepping on your throat right before he kicks you in the teeth.

Ten incredible touchdown drives run to perfection by Mr Stretch.

I think you should withhold judgment on the Canes because of those weather delays.

I can speak from experience. You focus and practice all week long to play a football game, and the last thing you can anticipate is a weather delay. You lose that focus and that edge while you're sitting in the locker room. You're no longer warm. You're no longer fired up and it zaps you're emotion. It can also be a harm to you physically.

Fast forward a week.
I talked about not being overly concerned about the wins and loses with the non conference schedule. I knew BYU was gonna be tough but i thought we would likely win. Miami is the game i thought we could very well lose. First road game but more importantly it's most likely to be hot and very humid. Our depth will be a real problem in this kind of an environment.

In a few aspects yes we played well. However did you see the 2nd quarter? Did you see at any point in time our line block anyone when we ran the ball? How about our kicking game? Did you see our clock management? We lost the game because we could not put together a complete one not because BYU was that good (not saying they are bad, just not on our level)...we should have won by two tds

That's nonsense. BYU is a good team. The second quarter was what it was because BYU is a good team. Did you see the last two quarters? That was our defense adjusting. (I understand you haven't seen that happen in the last seven years so it might be hard to recognize) If you're expecting us to shut everyone out or it means they "played bad." you're going to be in for a long season. Our kicker wasn't great, our running game could be better, and our clock management had very little to do with us losing.

That was as complete a game as I've seen this team put together in years. BYU is just better than you're willing to give them credit for.

You have a decent argument except two things. BYU had nothing to do with tommy oveetgrowing guys left and right in the 2nd quarter, and click management and lack of run game had everything to do with losing at the end

I'm still not sure how any of those things means we didn't play well. You act as though the team has to play perfect or they didn't play "well." As I said before, the team had its most complete game in years. Your boy would have seen this team fold up after the events of teh second quarter. These coaches actually worked on them and made adjustments.

And BYU IS on our level. I think you're just overestimating what our level is at this point.

I didnt say we played poorly. If you notice I said we played well at times. I wouldnt say this was the most complete in years. The adjustmenys at half were the best in 3 years (since Carl left our D and their adjustments dropped off) I honestly tgink what happened with Bo is he got stubborn toward the end of his time and let his pride and wanting to prove he was right get in the way of the adjustments. As for BYU I will reserve jusgement until their game tonight against Boise. If the win, or play solid, I will come back and give you props. I just dont think their D is good at all, but their offense yes is good (even with Tanner Mangum)

HuskersMan, BYU looked pretty good again last night, starting to loosen my grip on if the are just okay or good. Granted I am not ever a huge Boise believer, but honestly, BYU could run the table with the rest of their schedule now. Anyway like I said, props
