I know it's premature, but all the back and forth about keeping Coach Williams got me thinking about the carrot that might be needed to keep our best coaches on the defensive side.
You certainly don't want to show Banker the door before he's had a chance to install his defense and be successful, but I'd think Coach Riley needs to make some commitments to Bray and/or Stewart about possible elevation to defensive coordinator in the future.
On paper, Coach Stewart has a stronger pedigree, but everyone raves about Bray and maybe the only way you keep him long term is to promise him the Banker spot in year 4 or something?
I'm not sure why, but my sense is that Bray might be more committed to the program and Stewart might view it as a stepping stone, which makes the decision easier if Coach Stew leaves in a year or two. I'd hate to see more turnover in the secondary coaching staff, but it might make the succession planning cleaner.
Of course none of this means anything unless we take all this momentum and win a bunch of games this year, take the West title, keep the recruiting pipeline hot and make a move to become relevant nationally again.
