Here are some quick notes to pass along following Nebraska’s fall camp practice on Friday morning…

***Head coach Scott Frost said tight ends Austin Allen and Travis Vokolek were “a little nicked up” but didn’t think either injury was that serious or season-ending.

Frost said they were giving Allen “a little time off” and, while Frost didn’t say it, that Vokolek might be out a little longer. Frost expects both players would be back.

***Frost said Nebraska held its second fall camp scrimmage on Friday. While there wasn’t as much live tackling as the first scrimmage, Frost said NU got a lot of good situational work in on Friday.

***However, Frost said they had Big Ten officials ref the scrimmage, “and there were too many flags on the ground today.” Frost said most of the penalties were from the second and third-teamers, but it was still frustrating to see those types of mistakes.

***Frost said he felt much better about Nebraska’s team vaccination rate than he did at the start of camp. He didn’t give a percentage but said the staff had done all they could to educate players about the vaccine.

Frost said NUU had four different speakers meet with the team over the first four days of camp to discuss the vaccine. He said there was some initial resistance from some players, but they’ve made a lot of progress over the past few weeks.

***Frost said there were “a few guys that have separated themselves” in the running back competition, but it was still unknown what the depth chart there would look like for Illinois.

***Frost said it was the same for the backup quarterback spot, but he noted that Logan Smothers “had a really good day” during Friday’s scrimmage.

***Frost said Brant Banks had been repping with the ones and the twos on the offensive line this fall, including at left tackle. Frost said other guys like Nouredin Nouili, Broc Bando, and Trent Hixson had all played well enough to make him feel very good about the overall offensive line depth.

***Frost said Nebraska had moved two players had switched positions and moved to tight end this week with Allen and Vokolek out. Walk-on wide receiver Chancellor Brewington and walk-on defensive lineman Jacob Herbek both joined the room to add some practice depth.

***Frost said Sevion Morrison “hit his stride” this offseason after a tough first year at Nebraska. Frost said Morrison was leaner and faster and had “grown up” since last season.

***Frost said he would be going to the Garth Brooks concert at Memorial Stadium on Saturday. He said he’d never sat in his family coach’s box before, so he was excited to do that and see the stadium full of people again.
