Fred should be fired today

Worster and Ulis really limited us offensively this year. The fact they couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn or take their guy off the dribble was troubling. We need a quick, athletic point guard who can push the tempo and make a wide open three. There has to be one out there we can afford.😎
Either that, or we could just keep repeating the story about BYU giving a kid $7 million and conclude that there are no good players available - PERIOD!

Really good points! We went after some good bigs in high school this year. Kid from Minnesota, Ahneman 6’ 10”, good shooter, perfect for Fred’s offense, goes to Norte Dame. Also, kid rom Texas, Chukwudebelu 6’ 10, athletic big, goes to Santa Clara. We try but no success.

Gotta love the Big Ten. Last night a Purdue player kneed a USC player in the head - unintentional, not a dirty play at all, but kneed in the head nonetheless. Musselman had to beg and plead for a review, which lasted about 4 seconds before "common foul" was confirmed.

Today pretty much the same thing happened when an Oregon player accidently kicked a Spartan in the head. Surprise, surprise, surprise - it was upgraded.

What is the administration not doing to support the basketball program?

Prioritizing basketball. You wouldn’t understand cause you don’t watch basketball. Michigan State was just playing in the B1G tournament and Barto was talking about how frustrated Tom Izzo, Michigan State administrators and fans are that they haven’t been to the final 4 since 2016. Izzo described it as unacceptable. This a program with 5 final 4 appearances and a national championship in the last 20 years.

Our administration allows average to below average coaches to grift them for large contracts and then they always extend their contract without justifiable results to do so. We then keep them around for years too long because we extended their contract without zero results. And keep in mind, every coach we paid top money for went to a lower level of D1 after being fired from NU. And all of them sucked even more against lesser competition, complete failures. So there you have it…

Our administration isn’t committed to hiring the best coach our money can buy, and they’ve mismanaged those shitty coaches contracts and tenures. Why do you keep asking these questions like you don’t think I’ll have a good answer? Especially when I destroy your veiled assertions with each answer I post. And why do keep asking these questions when you admittedly don’t care about basketball?

There’s a legitimate reason why nobody else is asking these questions (other than you) in this thread. And it’s not cause they don’t care about basketball.

Now you’re talking! It appears they are committed to basketball but just to the wrong coach.
Where does Fred’s salary rank in the conference?

I’ve said before and I’ll say it again, we will have to overpay in basketball (football to some degree as well) to lure the best players possible. When you’re one of the worst D1 programs historically (some might say the worst cause we’ve never won an NCAA game) you can’t just match or slightly exceed the NIL offers of teams with a history of success. That doesn’t mean we’re not spending as much as other schools, it just means we don’t understand who we are and that we’ll have to pay more than our competitors until we figure out how rehabilitate our public perception.

But if we pay them they will come. We just need to understand that we need a financial commitment to NIL that exceeds that of our competition. Spending the same as a programs like Wisconsin or Illinois isn’t good enough because we don’t have the reputation and leverage to promise a kid success. If you have a history of NCAA tournament success and a history of putting kids in the NBA, you have the “reputational capital” to convince a kid to come to your school the same or even less money than other schools are offering. We don’t have that luxury and the powers that be need to recognize this and start publicly advocating and making moves to open up our big donors’ pockets.

And buying the best coach our money can buy would be a good start and likely help some of those donors to open up their pockets. Fred was the 1st semi-high profile coach we’ve ever really hired. I was hopeful, but it’s pretty clear he’s just not good enough. Need to up the ante with our next hire. Is what it is, we’re an ugly guy with a lot of money. And we’re gonna have to spend more of it than most to get a hot wife.

Also no hard feelings about this conversation. I’m currently very frustrated and pissed off about this season’s epic collapse. And I probably let your questions annoy me more than they normally would.

Fred’s salary (4.75 mil) is ranked 5th in the conference and 15th nationally. Unbelievable!

We’re good! I’m glad we finally got to the point of putting some blame on the coach instead of saying the administration isn’t supporting basketball.

But that’s one of the most direct ways an administration can support a sport. Be self aware, know who you are and how much you need to spend to accomplish your goals. Then don’t get married to your own decisions, hold that coach accountable, demand results, don’t prematurely extend their contract and then fire them when they don’t live up to expectations. Also a public push for NIL funding would help, like they do for football and volleyball.

Administration is not in absolved from blame in this situation. They don’t put enough pressure on basketball to perform. They don’t think they need to put in the same effort into bolstering NIL contributions for basketball. They don’t hire the right coaches, the prematurely extend their contracts and then their too cheap to fire those coaches when the writing has been in the wall for years.

Will Bryson Bahl be the next shooter that Fred regrets not offering? I have no clue, he just put up 33.

Wow 10 pages!! Can I get the Cliff's Notes?

Our team folded like cheap tent.

Fred sucks and his portal additions are bums.

Our administration is too cheap to fix the problem they created.

Our donors don’t prioritize basketball. (NIL or otherwise)

Administration doesn’t publicly push for more NIL funding the way they do for football and volleyball.

Fran McCaffery is a psychopath who just got fired.

iowa will probably do better job (than us) at hiring a quality coach.

I hate not being part of March so much I could throat punch my sweet little grandmother. God rest her soul…

That’s most of it.

I think his original contract gave lots of time and kind of hand cuffed the administration. The extension was robbery.

Fred made yet another Most Overpaid list:

Most Overpaid Coaches

But hey, I’m sure this doesn’t take into account that he’s a “great fit” and that Grandpa coached at NU.

We need to accept that we have to overpay for a good coach. But then we need hold them accountable for all that money. You got 3 maybe 4 years tops to win an NCAA tournament game or you’re toast. No extension until you do that, coming close isn’t good enough.

Are they basing “popular with fan base” with the fact we rank 13th nationally in attendance because Husker fans would show if Red Panda or Frisbee Dog performed.

Fred doesn’t appear to be the answer, but at least we tried to overpay for a coach. Problem is we decided we liked Fred personally (good and decent man) more than we hated losing… 😕

Any chance we don’t have enough to qualify? We all know they are gonna get worked and sent packing in the 1st round. If they couldn’t get up for senior day against iowa with everything on the line they ain’t gonna do shit in Vegas.
I figure the most likely outcome is that GG plays, scores 40, and then transfers to Iowa or Creighton.
