Fred should be fired today

I agree, he currently has a job with no pressure and zero expectations.

IU is the exact opposite of that.
Zero expectations for McDermott? Come on. There are expectations of a finish in the upper part of Big East and a ncaa tourney appearance. If they went a couple of seasons without that the heat would be on.

Eh, I think McDermott knows he has a sweet deal in Omaha. Any talk of him leaving is probably just for leverage.

When you can still play Mason Freaking Miller and nobody criticizes you - stay put. You have a good gig.
Good call on Miller…worst player in D1.

I think Creighton’s expectations of McDermott are modest, compared to most places. Of course compared to Teflon Fred, his seat is blazing hot!

They hired a coach that was horrible at ISU...as long as dorky Omaha dorks show up, it doesn't matter, trust me, I am one of them.

Wat? We’ve made tangible financial and logistical commitments and/or actions to support Football and Volleyball. Facilities, Public donations, Established collectives, University sanctioned events (volleyball in memorial stadium, the event formerly known as the spring game, high profile camp events for football, facility tours) and gave out NIL deals that put volleyball players and football players in local ads.

We’ve done almost none of that for men’s basketball and it’s fvcking criminal. Have we had any basketball player in local commercials and supported like our football and volleyball players? (maybe Tominaga? IDK) Answer is pretty much nobody. Now, much of this shit falls on our high dollar donors, I don’t think most of them care about basketball. They don’t put the screws to the administration, they don’t care and frankly, they’re fvcking stupid. They’ve never seen or paid attention to what a quality basketball program brings to a university, and to them personally as fans. It’s really unfortunate that they’re totally ignorant to what a good basketball program does for a university and athletic department. Would make the publicity and revenue we get from volleyball look like pocket change… 😞
Who’s been in local commercials?
Football makes the money. They don’t get treated like the rest.
They sure are making a monetary commitment to basketball as far as the coach is concerned.

If we’re sticking with Fred, and by all accounts we are, I want to see the athletic department make a tangible financial commitment to basketball. Not an another premature contract extension for coaches, not some sort of vague undefined lip service to ease fans, an actual plan that people can understand and get on board with. Have a plan, explain it in plain and simple terms, then publicize it and execute it.

If the plan is the status quo, when everyone knows Fred is gonna have to rebuild an entire roster, (again) with no promises of a strategic logistical financial commitment above the current status… FVCK THAT! Let someone new rebuild this roster and start fresh. Quit being satisfied with losing mother fvckers!
Don't hold your breath on the support. Maybe Berke did get paid. Maybe not. Maybe he'll pan out next year. That said, our guard situation is desperate at best for next season. I don't care who the head coach is, we have to get better guard play next year from more than one guy. With the payscale now for a B1G starter, I don't know how this is going to go anywhere positive. We either made questionable portal acquisitions or were limited financially in who we could attract. Either way, it doesn't paint a pretty picture for the future.

Basketball would be the number two money maker by a wide margin if our donors and administration weren’t fvcking clueless. Some places basketball is number 1 and extremely profitable. Also I’ve seen Lexi Rodriguez, Becca Allick, Nash Hutmacher in commercials. Even that trader loser DeColdest Crawford had a commercial until he bolted.

But I don’t even know why I’m talking about this with you? You’re not a basketball fan and have self proclaimed your lack of interest, knowledge and/or care for basketball.

I thought with the incredible support we had at Memphis things would change. Then with every portal whiff the momentum faltered. After those misses, we just seemed to get bodies. What happened in the off season was criminal.

Sounds much like Husker football and men’s basketball!
But I listened to a live feed on X last evening some people speaking said maybe it would be ok if McDermott left because they could have Alan Huss or DeVries return as coach . It’s not like if Mac had left 5 years ago.

Rigsby did a lot of different things for Minnesota this year. Essegian did only one thing for us, and when he wasn’ttar doing that he was useless. Horrible pick up in portal.
He wouldn't have been a horrible pickup if we didn't break the bank to get him and we had a decent point guard besides Brice. I love Sam Hoiberg, but he's not a B1G starting point guard. Rollie had holes the size of Montana in his game. Very very average at best point guard situation that looks like it's getting worse next season. Essegian was forcing shots because most of the time he was in the game, nobody else was a scoring threat. One thing I heard several times from commentators was they thought we need to make teams pay with Essegian when they doubled Brice. The problem was that if Brice and Essegian were in the game, nobody else on the floor could score so they didn't have to leave Essegian.

Fran just got tossed from the Iowa-Illinois game. And while I know Fran is a dick, Izzo cries more by the end of the National Anthem compared to what Fran was doing.
When Fran blows his lid he is probably the biggest lunatic of all the BIG bball coaches. He definitely acted like a coach tonight that is heading out the door for different surroundings.

Dude is a freaking clown, remember him staring down the ref during a timeout last year? What a clown and yes their victory over Nebraska last Sunday only delayed his firing.

After watching BYU beat Iowa State for the second time this season earlier today, I don't think BYU has lost any sleep in losing out on Berke to UNL. The players BYU brought in this year in the portal panned out very well.

We had a first team all-conference player in Brice Williams, which hasn’t happened in a while. Have never seen him in a commercial. Heck, there hasn’t even been an appreciation thread for him. NU has good fan support but that seems where it ends most of the time.

Well a win is a win, but that was an awful showing by the Jays. When you're trying to improve your NCAA seeding, you can't sleepwalk for the first 30 minutes.

Credit to Zugic, though. He single-handedly got the game to OT. Maybe he'll finally stop losing minutes to Mason the Terrible.

What are they going to do move from a 9 to an 8?
Miller is a fraction of the player he was before breaking his leg. If his uncle is leaving I’d look for him to leave as well

He entered the transfer portal from UCLA and he narrowed it down to either going to BYU or UNL. He decided on UNL at the eleventh hour. It appeared that at that point BYU had closed on some of their main targets in the portal. I have watched some of them beat Iowa State a couple times this year including today. BYU will have a very nice seed in the NCAA tournament next week so I don't imagine Berke would have made much of a difference for them this season.

They could possibly climb up to a 7, which is a big deal because it gets you out of the 2nd round matchup with the #1 seed. Not likely, but win tomorrow and it would be possible. Will have to play way better than today's s--- show, though.

Not sure he would have fit in at BYU. Their players can hit shots.

I would love to see USC upset Purdue, but Lurch and crew will never allow that to happen. Boilers are an even bigger conference darling than Wisconsin, Michigan and OSU.

Good Lord - ball clearly goes out off Purdue. Lurch gets it right but Purdue complains, so they overturn the call. What a conference.

Got it . I misread your post .

Saw video of Fran’s ejection tonight, he wasn’t even acting crazy just used foul language towards the ref. Nothing like he’s acted in the past and not been ejected. He didn’t look to have a care in the world as he left the floor. Maybe he’s accepted his fate his time in Iowa City may be over.

What is the administration not doing to support the basketball program?

Some people would lead you to believe the men’s basketball team has to go practice at an outdoor elementary school playground and buy their own shoes with a volunteer coaching staff. All excuses to justify failure.
No no. The shoes are free and part of our NIL package😉. We needed a starting point guard. The best we could attract was Rollie. You can not possibly believe he was the best or highest paid point guard in the portal. We needed A players and got B and C players in the portal. That alone suggests we weren’t able to match offers from other schools. Our history sucks. We’re going to have to over pay to get the kind of players we need. Damn I hate paying college players but at least it’s somewhat out in the open now.

BYU gave 7 million to one basketball recruit. We give a fraction of that amount to our starting QB. Anybody that believes we’re competitive in basketball NIL are naive. Hell BYU nearly outbid us for a guy who would have been a bench player for them.

BYU has lots of $. Private universities tend to have in general wealthy alumni, due to the types of degrees they get from those schools. I think that most of the NIL $ raised at Nebraska people are giving to football and VB. Can’t make the $ for basketball to appear from nowhere. Someone on here the other day said outside of Williams and Gary that we have the roster of a Summit League team, that is probably true.

Williams and Gary were not big transfer gets either. Which in a way gives me hope. Timing and good talent evaluation will be the key. Need a lot of diamonds in the rough as opposed to lumps of coal.

The problem with Worster is that he is not, and never has been, a point guard at all. That's what I tried to tell people here last spring. But that was just based on crazy stuff like actually watching him play.

Worster and Ulis really limited us offensively this year. The fact they couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn or take their guy off the dribble was troubling. We need a quick, athletic point guard who can push the tempo and make a wide open three. There has to be one out there we can afford.😎

Have we ever gotten a true big name transfer through the portal? Most of biggest transfer successes under Miles were largely unproven guys from other P5 schools (Palmer, Pettaway, White, Copeland, etc.). Fred has probably brought in guys with better college resumes prior to NU (T. McGowens, Williams, Mast, Gary) but they weren't splash transfers. Keisei came from the JUCO route which Iba and Nee used pretty successfully back in the day, but that hasn't been much of a source of talent for some time for whatever reason. And outside of a couple of exceptions like Isiah Roby, Tai Webster, and one/done Bryce McGowens, development/retention of high school talent has been almost non-existent under Miles or Fred. Obviously, the portal is going to continue to play a big role in the talent the program can get, but I'd like to see Fred get something out of high school recruits and maybe more JUCOs to lesson the risks of whiffing in the portal like he did this year.
