Nebraska pitchers Jake Bunz, Corbin Hawkins, CJ Hood and Brandon Lundquist have all entered the transfer portal or departed the program. With exit meetings taking place over the next two days, plenty of movement is expected on the Husker roster.

Bunz is a notable entrant to the portal. The fifth-year senior has one more year of eligibility as he seeks his new home. The Elkhorn native spent two seasons at Hutchinson Community College before coming to Lincoln for the 2021 season. He was instrumental in helping NU reach the Fayetteville Regional with a 2.20 ERA in 17 appearances. He suffered a season-ending injury after recording just one out into the 2022 season before coming back for a limited role in 2023. Bunz had a 3.86 ERA in 14 innings this last spring with 18 strikeouts and nine walks

Corbin Hawkins is set to hang up the cleats and retire from baseball. Hawkins has the desire to start his post-baseball life as anyone would. He had a terrific 2023 season posting a 2.23 ERA in 44.1 innings with 33 strikeouts and 11 walks. Changing to a sideways throwing motion, Hawkins became the most valuable reliever outside of Shay Schanaman this season for the Huskers. I'll be wishing him luck as he begins the next phase of his life.

Hood did not appear in a game during the 2023 season as a sophomore and will have three seasons of eligibility. He made 18 appearances during his freshman campaign in 2022 and posted a 2-0 record with a 4.26 ERA in 12.2 innings where he struck out 12 batters with 13 walks. He posted his announcement during the late stages of Nebraska's loss against No. 1 Maryland on May 25. He later deleted the tweet and posted it the next day.

A freshman from Millard North, Lundquist did not throw a single inning for the Huskers and will have four seasons remaining.

The Bunz situation was crushing. Oh, what might have been if he didn't get hurt. He probably would already be in a farm system this season. Injuries suck.

Pitching was top to bottom the worst part of the Husker baseball team. Olson and Kaminska were our best and were ok. If this team is going to win like they did when Van Horn was here they need an entire roster flip of pitchers. Wish them luck, won’t miss them.

Maryland is hosting Regionals with our pitching.

We're hosting, with their offense.

The same can't be said the other way.
Our pitching was mediocre at best. Nothing great. There is no argument to be made for our pitching. And Maryland is not hosting a regional.

No. 163 strength of schedule. 1-7 vs teams 26-50, 13-9-1 vs teams 101-200. 2-6 vs Creighton and Omaha. Gave up 38 runs to San Diego going 0-3-1. Gave up 25 runs to Iowa getting swept. Gave up 16 runs to Creighton and 19 to Omaha. Losses to S. Dakota St and N. Dakota St and Minnesota to go with the other bad losses. Pitching was weak. How many B1G teams are hosting regionals? How many made a regional? How many are ranked? Terrible all across the conference this season.

Bats were just as inconsistent if not more. Probably why we didn’t make a regional. Defense spotty. It was a group effort. Pitching has been more consistent over Bolts tenure than hitting though.

Kaminska was our best in ERA at 4.12. Good enough for #200 in the country. Olson is the only pitcher in the top 150 for hits allowed in a game. Anderson #10 for batting avg and Matthews #152. Anderson, Matthews and Swansen all in the top 100 nationally in HR with Anderson in the top 25. Our pitching was our weakest point, which is what I said to begin with. Like I also said earlier, no argument can be made for our pitching. It was not good. Anderson, Matthews and Swansen are the reason this team didn’t finish below .500.

Very top heavy with the bats but that tourney when it all mattered our pitching did the job and our hitting didn’t. That matters at the end of the day imo.

Those three did there job for sure at the plate.

Top 45 nationally for pitching while hitting was 75ish, with 1 guy at 380 and another at 415. 2 dudes finished the season over 300 but ya, lets blame pitching.

No shit, their pitching was trash all season minus the B1G tournament hence why I said with Nebraska's pitching.

😂 minus the 20 run game from Maryland. I wonder why we should remove that one. I wish you knew how to read and had some common sense. I said pitching was our weakest area, not the only area that needed work. And yes, if the 3 hitters I mentioned hadn’t had the season at the plate they did, this team finished under .500. Keeping in mind we won games we had to score a lot of runs in to win. And had a game that we scored 16 runs and DID NOT WIN. Get a clue. Making an argument for a position group that was not good. 👍

I dont think the hitting or the pitching was nearly the issue but rather the team didn't come dialed in and ready to play every game. This team has the pitching and hitting to be a regional team every year. I feel this year and last year, there isn't a guy who sets the tone every time he is in there. This may be partly on coaches but I feel there has to be some accountability on the players and someone has to be the example.

All games were included. Removing the highest scoring game, both allowed & scored, as a note is called putting it in perspective. A single game floats numbers.

If you're not smart enough to figure out what was done then quit posting your garbage. We also had a game allowing 2 runs, and didn't win so eat shit on your "16 runs scored in a loss".

Clutch and situational hitting was the absolute weakest aspect of the 2023 season.

Oh boy 😂. I guess it doesn't work both ways...

7.54 runs per game this season. When pitching didn't perform; 1 loss while scoring more than the average, 1 win while scoring more than the average and 1 tie. 3 of 57 games; a mere 5% of games played.

Enjoy this
5 ER v San Diego, loss
4 ER v ACU, loss
5 ER v Omaha, loss
5 ER v Creighton, loss
3 ER v Minnesota, loss
3 ER v NDSU, loss
2 ER v Maryland, loss
4 ER v Maryland, loss

Maryland had the best pitching in the conference tournament. A lot of guys throwing in the 90’s with good second pitches. Timely hitting. If they combine the two in the NCAA, they might do some real damage. The Big Ten is ok, but far removed from three or four conferences to make any confident predictions.

Yep our hitting was spotty, except for two guys, and any pretty good or better pitcher could stifle our offense. We probably lose those two guys to the draft. So 2024 does not give confidence on offense and pitching has a few more positives to build on. But the whole team doesn’t scream that next year is our year.

I think that's a pretty massive under-sell of Gabe tho. Dude had a year.

Any other year that this one and we'd be raving about it.

Next year will be another kind of pressure. Higher expectations to lead team. I agree about the miss.
