Foley is gone!!👈 Ekeler coming home?

That is some serious revisionist history. Foley had a good track record as a ST Coach and I don’t recall anyone questioning his hiring at the time.

His Special Teams sucked here and he needs to be gone, but the I told you so on this one is kind of comical.

Yeah I didn't know anything about Foley previously. I never questioned his hire. Didn't really have a reason to. After going back and looking he was a pretty good ST coach before he got to Nebraska. He was bad here and there is really no way to spin it otherwise.

But to act like he was a questionable hire is probably misleading. I had a couple hires I questioned and one I hated and KNEW it was an accident waiting to happen. That was Satterfield of course. Even tried against my best judgement to to see the good and repeatedly give him the benefit of the doubt but in the end he was who I thought he was.

It is his business and I believe Rhule absolutely could already be working on the hire. In that case, if he does hire Eckler it would be said that Compton influenced it. Probably doesn't matter in the end but with Compton's access I think he should have done it on the down low.
Is will Compton a consultant to Matt Rhule or something? I thought he is just a blowhard Husker hype guy

I like listening to Sip on their podcast - but he’s kind of like that one guy in meetings who doesn’t really offer up original thoughts and parrots what ever Robin and Sean say. Then he repeats it and adds a little commentary which is made up fluff. He’s an expert at it.
Not knowing much is his schtick, he regularly screws stuff up, admits to being unprepared, everyone laughs at him and moves on. It’s the same way on the morning show with Busch; he says something and Sip latches on like a newborn calf to its momma’s teet.

Coaching is like recruiting in that you can get a 5* coach with a 1* outcome. All of these guys work 10+ hour days. Its a combination of hard work, luck, right place/right time and personnel.
Foley stunk here. He was borderline great at other stops. Same can be said for Frost, Cosgrove, Phil Elmassian, Satt (wait, not Satt), NDSU legend Craig Bohl, Shawn Watson, and the list goes on . . .

Somehow he's leveraged that into getting paid to talk about Husker sports for the last 30 years, while we all do it for free on here. Got to hand it to him for that.

I am very pleased with this development

Go get somebody who’s proven capable of producing results in short order

Preferably someone who has a kicker/punter/long snapper he can bring with him

No doubt. It’s like the three stooges, less two of the stooges. He’s the comic relief and entertainment value, even if unintentional most of the time,

Special teams coaching is weird. It is not like you are teaching the snapper how to snap (not most of the time) or the punter how to punt (most of the time) or the kicker how to kick (most of the time),

I helped with special teams and I have never punted a ball, long snapped a ball or kicked a ball in my life, but yet, we still "coach" them. It is goofy.

Is he really gone or just not doing special teams anymore ? Rhule appears to have an adversion on to firing someone. Is it possible foley and Satts just flip jobs ? foley coaches tight ends and Satts coaches special teams.

Be runs the "Bussin with the Boys" podcast, which Matt Rhule has appeared on. Compton gave "motivational" speeches on Husker Vision in 2024 to ostensibly pump up the crowd before games. Not sure if that means he has some sort of business connection with the AD. Supposedly his screeds appeal to younger fans, but many folks, including me find them abrasive and disrespectful to the other teams. Such as screaming the other team doesn't belong on the same field as NU while the team is out warming up.

I think he’s gone. But if he isn’t coaching special teams why do you care if he’s gone?

I do know what he does, but is he a consultant to Matt Rhule why is he attempting to get a certain coach hired?

I was at the Northern Iowa game when his video played saying they didn’t belong on the field with Nebraska. Probably wouldn’t be so embarrassing if we could have proved they didn’t belong on the field. I appreciate his enthusiasm but if he is the real deal why isn’t he on Rhule’s staff instead of just talking.

Probably likes the gig he has and never wanted to coach… That would be the simplest explanation.

He wasn’t fired, his contract expired and they didn’t renew it. So they would have to rehire him at a different position if he is to remain at Nebraska. Probably just as likely that he finds a job elsewhere at this point. I even bet the Rhule is helping him on that front.

Because he's a talker

I'm mystified what his role with NU is. Since he has a reoccurring role on Husker Vision before games, I would think he had some kind of contract or handshake or understanding with somebody. But if he does, I doubt that includes a provision for coach hiring advice.

He has a contract to provide the so-called pump video before games. It's cringe. Guy tries too hard.

Well he’s definitely both of those, but I’m sure you know he also co-hosts one the most popular sports podcasts in the country. I don’t care for it much, but I don’t really like podcasts in general. Younger crowd loves his podcast. He’s also a very substantial donor as well.

You should just delete your account. Embarrassing

Doing it once a season for a game like CU. I'm all for it. Putting out a cringe video before UNI? GTFO.
Agree, I enjoyed it before the Puff game as it added to how electric the crowd was. Then, forget which game it was and he called the other team "Jabronies". We lost, UCLA?
