First Husker in portal

It's no coincidence we're seeing portal outflow right now. Rhule had his talks with the players just last week or the week before. Kids heard things that were probably honest and blunt but useful to their decision-making.
Lynum was a contributor at a position of need. He's not really a huge loss, but not a guy you want leaving either unless you've got someone better lined up in the portal.

Yeah, sorry, but if you’re in your 4th year and aren’t a starter… I’d say go. He will likely get his degree and get to start at a G5 school.

Also, wonder why we can’t fookin win, just look at the 2020, 2021, and 2022 classes… virtually no stars, very few contributors, and lots and lots of transfers.
Frost really did suck dick

Trying to figure out if you are really this negative or just trolling. People bitch about not winning but want to keep a player who was in the program for 4 years with what, 1 start? Do you want to win or do you want to keep 5th year players who are nice special teams players who might spot start?

You read what you want into it, it's no skin off my ass. I don't know how it's a negative to point out the obvious fact that the guy could have contributed next year.

That player would be replacing Newsome, not Lynum. Lynum will be replaced by a hs cb, likely another Flordia kid from the looks of it.

We can't upgrade the roster by keeping everyone. He's a nice player but what's his potential? All conference? Nfl?
I said above in this thread that I'd be fine if Lynum left if we replaced him with a better player in the portal. Are you trying to argue with me just to argue?

All conference or NFL? Comments like this and the guy who wondered if we were going to bring in a starter from the SEC make me wonder how realistic people are about the state of the program these days.

I'm not sure you understand the context of my post. He was basically complaining that we lost Lynum. I said he's a nice player but it isn't like we lost some all-conference player, or even a starter. He might have been a starter full-time next year but who knows. I was asking him what he thought Lynum's potential was as a way to prove a point.

the list of players we'd actually miss if they left is about this deep, as far as I see it:

1. Nash

[pretty good gap]

2. Robinson

everyone else can be replaced/upgraded

Our 2 Freshman AA D linemen can be upgraded? Those two played beyond their years
Jay Moore from Big Red Wrap Up said it took years to get his body ready for league play and these 2 held up really well, and shut down some opponents drives
T Knighton is a good coach but you don’t replace these two and they’re only going to get better
In fact keeping these two and building around them is the only way to close the gap on the elite in the BIG

You’re out of your depth here, even for you
those are good additions to the list.

Then what happened last year?

Most here seem to think our dearth of talent was the issue in losing to I guess they think more talented teams?

Certainly couldn’t have been the staff, which kept us competitive with their hard work, could it?

Could it be our talent was lopsided and our defense was let down by a less talented but also injury depleted young offense?
It could.

There are so many possibilities for what led to last year’s failure.

I for one am happy to admit as much and hope the people in charge can say the same instead of burying their heads in the sand.

Everyone can be replaced on pretty much any team. The portal shows that. We have some good young players. Princewill, Lenhart, RVP, Coleman, Lloyd, Evan-Jenkins. Singleton looked really good before his injury. I know people are down on Fidone but I think he continues to improve as he distances himself from the injuries.

I think the core group is starting to emerge and I think the players I listed would be highly sought after by good teams if they entered the portal.

I’d be curious as to who you would go after to replace

1. Ben Scott
2. Benhardt (and I really like Knaak)
3. Johnson

And I won’t even go into 2nd stringers on our DL that give us crazy depth.

We can just start with those 3.

Not to mention our Freshman wide receivers produced at a similar if not better level than any other rivals 100 class of 2023 WR. Lloyd, Coleman, and Doss are guys we want to keep around.

Those 3 are the definition of replacement level players.

There are hundreds of kids who can be plugged in and replicate their at best slightly above avg efforts.

So shoot me some.

Start with Scott. Give me one player you would replace Scott with.

And which two freshmen All American Defensive players would you woo over here. Kids with 3 years remaining but playing at an All American level in comparison to their peers.

But go ahead and start with Scott

I said the 2 frosh AAs were good players to add to the list of those who’d be missed if they left, making it 4 players long (all on the DL)

whichever 10-15 centers are in the portal today could replace Scott and we wouldn’t notice. He’s perfectly average, slightly above on his best days (there weren’t many)

The consensus here is our team lost more games than it won because we have very little talent (not because of the coaching staff).

If that’s true, we should be upgrading everywhere.
