1. We hired a 60 year old coach who was likely going to be fired by...Oregon State
2. Said 60 year old coach never won a trophy in his career.
3. Previous 2 recruiting classes before 60 year old coach were poor
4. 60 year old coach would be 64 when his first contract would end.

Who can honestly say they expected to win with Riley? This hire was a cleansing of the negativity and a cheap option while we paid off Bo to leave and wait for our big 10 money to eventually flood in. There is no way that Riley was ever going to be reuped, and will likely either retire or get let go after next season. At that point the program should be full of decent players, and be somewhat cleansed of the mess of the Bo years. We will have fired an unsuccessful coach, instead of one with 9 wins every year, and have the money to hire a major division I guy. And if there is no great coach available we can reup Riley while we wait for the best option. Never in the history of the game did a 60 year old coach rebuild a program like Riley is going to have to do...and I think he has done a good job winning the games he is supposed to win.

FACT: Texas hired one of the hottest young coaches in the country
FACT: Texas is the flagship university in the most talent-rich state in the country
FACT: Texas is the richest athletic department because of their Longhorn Network deal and alumni support
FACT: Texas just lost to a Maryland team that will finish 12th in the Big Ten this year

guys like you definitely come out of the woodwork don't ya? Follow another team, because you people get to much damn enjoyment bashing everything Nebraska Football related

I don't know why I bother signing on the board on Saturdays and Sundays in the fall, especially when some of the "greatest fans in college football" come here just to bitch and moan about how we're nowhere near Tom Osborne's standards. Well, thanks Solana Beach Husker. If you really are from Solana Beach, soak up that beautiful place and then post on the board. Sounds like you have some California Blues. That's a hard thing to do in San Diego. But many thanks to you! I learned my lesson from you: stay away from this place on Saturdays. Don't know why I was so stupid in the first place hanging out on here on game day. Guess I forgot how awesome our fan base is.

It was our first game of the season. At times I thought we looked like a Top 25 team. Other times, the complete opposite. In no way am I defending our defense's performance but at least we're not Texas, Baylor or UNLV. We're 1-0 and we're onto duck season.

Interesting to think what will happen in the next few years. How long does Riley want to coach?

We will probably get another coach that a bunch of people will hate. He will be too young, too old, too animated, too laid back, not understand Nebraska, a homer hire, run too much, not run enough, too cozy with the press, not accessible enough, sign too many local kids, fail to secure in state talent, not like runzas, and be just here to cash checks.

Certain I missed a bunch.

I believe Solana Beach Husker is correct unfortunately. I also believe Mike Riley will probably not be around after next year unless things change quickly and there is major improvement.

And you also believed that Arkansas State was the more physical team.

That's two strikes against you...

I was thinking about new coaches. today. Good college coaches are becoming like good NFL quarterbacks, few and far between. What coach is out there that would excite Husker fans if he was hired to coach football at Nebraska? Are coaches shelves lives becoming shorter and shorter in this era of social media. Even Harbaugh's star is shining a little less brighter. Maybe not so much now that Michigan just beat Florida (How good is Florida?). It is interesting how schools focus in on one candidate. They throw all their eggs in one basket. It is almost as if they have blinders on. Texas hiring Tom Herman is a great example of this. It seemed like last year's season barely got started and Herman was already being talked about as the successor to Charlie Strong. The Texas loss to Maryland just shows Texas was hugely overrated to even be ranked and that the rebuild will take some time. However, Herman's Houston Cougars team's loss last year to lackluster, bottom rung SMU should have been a big red flag. The Memphis loss was not great either but that was not nearly as bad as the SMU loss. Is Herman's hiring at Texas a home run? Maybe. Would Husker fans trade Riley for Herman? Riley will leave someday. He's 64 years old. I just hope when he does Husker Nation doesn't collectively get roped in on one candidate.

let's see Bill Snyder is like 77 and still coaching, Mike Riley is bringing in 4 star athletes and is creating a opportunity for young athletes to play and bring back the big red tradition. I don't see him getting canned by the red head anytime soon. as long as he wants to be our coach I think he will have that opportunity to do so. you can see the kids are buying into what they are selling, a major culture difference then what the past two clowns were doing.

For a post with the one word "Facts" as the title, you should probably do better than going one out of four with your main points.

Eichorst certainly won't fire him as his own performance is closely linked to Riley's now.

Regardless, I think Riley may actually be exactly what Nebraska needed at the time.

Everyone needs to calm down. Riley isn't going anywhere, the roof isn't collapsing on NU football, and this isn't 2007 part II.

Our offense did very well against a pretty scrappy defense. Our defense, though porous, did limit ASU to 10 points in the second half and came up with a game saving stop at the end. We played a very, very vanilla defense, which was probably a mistake, and will unveil more blitz packages, nickel and dime packages and so on, against Oregon and others.

We beat ASU. One of the better non power five teams. We are 1-0.

On to Oregon

Did you just compare Mike Riley to Bill Snyder?

Dense much? The comparison wasn't to Snyder the coach... it was to his longevity. The point is, IF Riley turns it around, he could be here another 10-15 years.

Sad that I had to spell it out for you.
Well, except Bill Snyder is one of the best college football coaches of all time.

Mike Riley is not

So, to even suggest Mike Riley could follow in Bill Snyder's path is ridiculous. Bill Snyder lasted that long for one reason, he is elite. Mike Riley obviously is not.

You know that, thats why you got defensive

Listen dimwit... I never even suggested Riley was close to Snyder, you are the one who went there.

It was clear in my post by the word IF in all caps that there are concerns about Riley's ability to get it done.

But again, IF, IF he has some success, he could be around awhile.

Sorry English is such a struggle for you. I foresee a tough life ahead for you.

Maryland is better than most people think. Texas also had a losing season last year. In the end, Texas will be fine with Tom Herman. We are in year three with Riley and still seeing similar mistakes as penalties go and how to handle clock management. Time will tell, but Riley is likely not the answer if you're looking for any type of Championship. We haven't even been able to sniff a division title with him.

Interesting way to start a post that is titled FACTS. Do you have any type of education?

Remember, this dude has trouble with English comprehension.
Simply asking the guy to come out and accuse me of what he wants to accuse me off. Not an expert on this message board posting, so I'm unclear on what trolling is.

you can elaborate if you like

You really see anything I posted as "Incendiary" ?

Doesn't take an lick of sense, or a third grade level of education, to understand what he is saying.
He comes off as lame as one of the other experts here. The horrid small-town assistant coach that is REALLY focused on his alcohol.

You guys would eat your own. FWIW I don't think the guy was trolling and the ONLY name calling has been done by people who have been around d this board ling enough to know better. I would say frustration levels are high around here.
