Everyone who said we just need a QB that won’t turn it over

Had it last night and still lost. Please let us know what the next excuse is to keep us current
Good point, you got us.

But here’s what I want to know. If we didn’t turn it over 5 times last week, do you think we still lose? Or 3 times the week before? I sure would have liked our odds in those games if that were the case… wouldn’t you say?

This is stupid, and you may want to delete this before more people wake up.

Nah, this staff is more of the same. Finding ways to lose.

I suppose if we could go back in time like you suggest we’d be okay. We just need to find a coach that can disrupt the space/time continuum

I guess you’d prefer to get blown out like what usually happed to bo when the game starts going south

Nah you’re just being stupid, claiming taking care of the ball wouldn’t have mattered in our other games. Which is stupid. Which is why I called this thread stupid.

What makes it even stupider is you have the power to go back and delete this thread as if it never happened, and choose not to. We can’t go back and change the outcomes of the games. But I bet a lot of the posters would agree with me over you that if we didn’t turn it over the previous two weeks we would have already qualified for a bowl.

Wasn’t it Bobby Bowden who said that when you’re building a program, “First you lose big, then you lose close, then you win close, and then you win big”? So maybe we’re ahead of the curve and already at the “losing close” stage?

That’s all I’ve got.

No, I’m claiming this staff just knows losing. Very similar fashion. Close and at the end. I guess two more years, right???

Stop. Frost lost close most of the time. Guess he just wasn’t given enough time. By year 22 we might have been to the winning big stage?

So if we don’t turn it over against Maryland and Michigan state we still lose? That’s your contention? That’s a bold statement.

It’s also stupid.
You’re building a strawman. Nobody is talking about those game except you.

My point was we lost even though we weren’t bleeding turnovers to a garbage team.

It’s not me building the strawman. People have said repeatedly ABOUT THOSE GAMES WE LOST, if we didn’t turn it over, we win. No one has said that about this game.

Unless you find a poster who said prior to the Wisconsin game, “If we don’t turn it over, we will win.” Then you have an argument. And if you find that, I will back down. Until then, you are the one with the strawman.

Yeah, I know. But Frost had the trifecta of no vision, no plan, and lousy in-game coaching. I lost faith in him long before his vaunted “3-9 that should have been 12-0” season.

At least Rhule has a clear blueprint to build the program, one that has worked before. I guess only time will tell if better talent will erase some of the game-day coaching issues that have cropped up this year. But I’m not ready to judge based on year 1, coming off the Charmin soft Frost era and all the injuries we have.

Dude, I’m not battling you. Our team and staff blow. We get what we all wanted, a rather clean game, and we lost to a team that is absolute trash

You're leaving context out of that claim.

"QB without turning the ball over" was said because had we had that, we most likely win 3 more games.

That, of course, doesn't mean we'll win every game.

It’s just making excuses for shit football in the end

Who the hell is making excuses on here? Fewer turnovers helped, but it wasn't enough, was it? But then we've seen this for many years now, Melvin Gordan ran for 408 yards in three quarters against defensive genius Bo Pelini. We've had years of mediocrity. Anyone who thinks that excuses matter at this point doesn't have a firm grip on reality.

You are making a claim that literally has no merit. Everyone on this board wants to go without turnovers. Just because we don’t turn it over doesn’t mean we will forever win every game we play that way.

You’re calling people out who believe without the turnovers we will win more on the strength of one game where we didn’t turn it over until the last play.

If you want to say the coaches suck, you have that right. But if you call posters out in the process, why are you surprised to get a response?

Blueprints are useless when you don’t look at them when on the building site. Instead they improvise, get desperate on play calling trying double passes, reverses last night, 1st down pass of 30+ yards into the wind by Jeff sims that was picked off a week ago. Purdy is best qb on the team and he can’t get it done when it matters most either.
Just is very disappointing they were 5-3 with 4 upcoming opponents that were equally messed up and failing…..yet we allowed them to salvage their seasons. Gave Michigan state their only win since Mel Tucker departed. Allowed Maryland to also snap a losing streak and qualify for a bowl. Allowed Wisconsin to snap a losing skid and qualify for a bowl. Last chance is Iowa that is a complete failure on offense yet is running away with the west division.

Fair enough. Just make sure to admit you’re an excuse maker which is why you were triggered by this thread. Be honest

Sure. What excuse have I made once again? Because in the other threads about the way the game ended, I have expressed frustration about not trying to get a TD at the end.

And quite frankly, when the TO margin is even, the game against a favored team still favors the favored team. But that’s probably just another excuse.

Oops we turned it over 2x in scoring position (downs, INT) last night

Carry on

All year, we have said competent QB play and no turnovers (I’m not counting the last play) would put us over the top. We got BOTH yesterday.

Yet our team, yet again, found a way to lose the game. Losing is our identity right now, and one QB is not going to drastically change us next year. We need a significant purge of Frost era players in the offseason

Agreed. Purdy executed at a level we haven’t seen here in a long time. Coaches failed to put him in places where that would actually matter.

This has been said AFTER games. Using hindsight.

Was it said before the Wisconsin game? "Competent QB play and no turnovers would put us over the top vs Wisconsin?"

Maybe it was, idk. I just don't recall that being the narrative.

No.

Nobody expected a Rhule coached team to beat a Fickell coached team even after watching them lose at home to northwestern

If we turn the ball over, we lose by 2-3 TDs.

If our kicker makes his FG, we win
If our O line was better, we win
If our punting game was better, we win.

Despite the loss, Purdy provided some hope at the QB position that was non-existent before the game. He played well enough that if/when we can shore up some other aspects on this team, we can beat some good teams.

That being said, we should always be looking to upgrade.
