There's something going on but I haven't heard. This same kid had offers at one time from just about everyone (Ohio St, Georgia, Clemson, LSU, Alabama, Oregon, etc) as a sophomore and got the early 4* rating. But in the end, I believe NU was his only official visit and he didn't consider too many other places.
