Earlier this week I started a thread asking if, under the pressure brought by the Illinois loss, Eichorst would stick to his rule of staying silent.

http://nebraska.forums.rivals.com/threads/aside-from-all-other-stuff-arguments-and-opinions.55346/

His stated rule, and there's more behind that link:

“What I want to try to provide is some balance and some stability, right? It’s more important for me to manage that behind the scenes than to go off and tell everybody that everything is going to be OK, and we’re going to get through this. Because we are. That’s how we’re structured."

His decision to grant an in-season interview for the sole purpose of saying just those things tells me there's pressure brewing behind the scenes - on both he and Riley - and that he has different rules on how to support a coach he hired. Eichorst honestly "likes where we are at" right now?

I'm fighting the urge to conclude it's a sign of desperation.

Winning games would certainly help.

Jesus Christ. Nobody likes the record. Nobody. You blood-sucking bloner twits can't help but drudge up everything you want to spin as negative after 5 damn games. A part of me hopes they all get fired after 1 year. Then the program will be in complete shambles. Not even sure that is possible it could be worse after what Mark left here. Then when you idiots demand Frost, I will sit back and laugh.

The pressure is building...listen to the recent interviews with Peter, Alexander, Farley, Tomich, and others.
And to a man those players say we need to get behind the program, not bitch endlessly. Never thought I would see the day that Nebraska fans want the program to fail. There is no denying that, you obviously are not listening to any of the former players. All that is happening is some of our fans are coming down on these x-players.

You're delusional. You think Mark left the program in shambles. That's insane. Continuously winning 9 & 10 games is not indicative of a program that is broken. Don't give me the cupboard was left empty bullshit either. That's largely a fallacy and you know it.

It's not a bad interview, but he's doing a lot of double talk.

When someone says 90% of people are supportive, you don't start doing interviews on this topic. So that is spin, or basically an outright lie.

The fans have a right to make their voices heard and they have a right to put pressure on the program.

This interview is saying basically that.. we feel the pressure, give us some time and support to get it turned around.

I think that is fair.. we need to give them more than 5 games.

How things go today, is going to determine the direction the fans will take.

Not surprising that the resident font of anger and name calling diverts from answering the question of why the silent AD suddenly starts giving interviews.

The guy can't win. If he says nothing he is offering "no effing support". If he comes out and says something, he is responding to desperation. I can't speak for SE, but I can speak for me. If I have an employee with a decent attitude who is not in a good place, it is not hard to go to bat for him. If I have an employee with a terrible attitude, why bother? The continued effort by some to portray the previous guy as a victim is astounding.

Wanting the program to fail? Where are you seeing this?

I see fans wanting the program to succeed, and not settling for mediocrity...or worse which is where we are trending right now.

It's become apparent that many only want Nebraska to succeed when the man in charge is hand picked by Tom and completely backed by him. Of course Tom could kill the fire by coming out and backing Riley, but he's busy pouting again just like when BC was in charge. Pretty sad....

Really? Pouting? Source? Proof?

This is beyond stupid. Mike Reilly is not on the hot seat. He inherited a team with no depth, lacking the talent he needs to run his schemes, that has been decimated by injury, and a divided locker room. No coach could put together a great team at Nebraska this year.

Look, it sucks to be 2-3. But whether we run the clock out at Illinois or lose the game, we're the same problem ridden average team. Winning the game at Illinois doesn't make us a better team. In a year when we weren't going to compete for a big 10 title regardless, winning at Illinois is ultimately meaningless. This year should be about getting better, not whether we squeak out wins against bad teams. Let's aim to be a good team again and build rather than how many wins we get. If we become a good team, the wins will take care of themselves

No offense, but that's weak leadership. Attitude reflects leadership.

Again, delusional. Lacking talent…really? There is plenty of talent on this team to be 4-1 at this point and win the division outright. The truth is we have a head coach with a coaching pedigree of winning 53.8% of his games. That's the truth. I'm tired of this misdirection by much of the fan base.

It does matter. IMO winning would do a lot to cure these "cultural issues." Instead, the staff has carelessly flushed a couple of wins down the toilet and now the players have validation for what they were already thinking. Not to mention the effect winning has on recruiting.

He did, and does the exact same things Osborne did as AD when it comes to the media. The double standard is noted.

This team would have lost to Mcneese St last year without AA. Don't talk about talent...

Who's portraying Bo as a victim? Not me. I'm just asking why the silent AD is changing his modus operandi after just five games. I don't recall Eichorst giving this interview as MBB spiraled last season, and most around here feel Miles is an "employee with a decent attitude" who "was not in a good place," but I could've missed it.

Are you denying the interview is at least a hint that Eichorst is feeling pressure?

Eichorst did NOT spend the time and energy to find Nebraska a great coaching prospect. He took the easy way out, didn't go after super quality candidates, wanted to find someone who would be easy to get along with (unlike Bo), and so NOW Husker Nation is stuck with a 62 year old professional Football Coach is has won 50% of his games. That is where we are at, and it is ALL on the shoulders of Eichorst. We need to fire Eichorst!!!!!

Losing to Illinois was meaning less really??? do you truly believe that - Yes we need to get better but you do not do that by losing games such as this

The head coach and athletic director of any blue blood football program is under pressure at all times. Anyone who wants to put pressure on firing a coach after the 5 games is either stupid or not a fan of the program.

So much talent that a redshirt is getting pulled on a RB when there are 4 ahead of him at the start of the season.

So much talent that the loss of 2 LBs has lead to a walk on starting (thank goodness he is doing well).

So much talent that the loss of DPE completely took away any punt return threat.

So much talent that our corners have not shown the ability to comfortably swith from a match up zone, bracket coverage scheme to being put on an island.

So much talent that our best edge pass rusher is a redshirt freshman who is now out for a few weeks.

So much talent that the new coach glows about a walkon FB.

Someone apparently said, "We have enough talent....." and it spread, and among some it is accepted truth.

It is convenient that Osborne kept his mouth shut, and only spoke to defend Bo. Nobody said a word. And now??? All the tards are out in in full force when the exact same thing happens. Laughable, and really sad. Shows they are not Husker fans. Just coach fans. The coach that hated them, and tried to get multiple other jobs while here. The amount of stupid it takes to get in that mindset is startling.

And we could have beat MSU, Minnesota, and USC if a one play was made. It's a dumb argument. We beat Mcneese State. We lost to the others. You are what you are. By the way Mcneese State was on its way to being a blowout before Tommie threw a horrible int at the end of the first half. Nebraska had a lot more talent but lost momentum. You have games you look back at the end of the year you think you should have won as well as lost. It evens itself out.

Also if you are making coaching mistakes like this against Illinois, Southern Miss, and BYU what gives you hope when we have to beat the likes of Harbaugh, Urb, and Dantonio to win the BIG who will always have more talent. You might exclude Dantonio from having more talent, but it will be similar.

one bad thing about all this.. since SE opened his mouth on the subject, he just painted himself into a corner on it.. by doing that interview, he just doubled down.. not sure that was the smartest thing to do.

People RELAX, we are five games into the new regime. We all knew there would be some growing pains with a new system. Grow up and get behind Riley.

Not sure who you are trying to kid...you don't think Eichorst felt pressure when Iowa bitched slapped Bo in Lincoln and Bo yet again had another temper tantrum on and off the field? You don't think Eichorst felt pressure watching Wiscy score over and over and over and over again last year on the same play to the tune of 600 yards rushing? Eichorst like most athletic directors felt the pressure as soon as he sat down in the AD chair.

You definitely missed it. Nobody was calling for Miles head...not even close. The support for Miles is close to 100 percent around Husker Nation.

Yup, 4 LB's that either were kicked off the team or left that would have been MAJOR contributors (Love, Afalava, Thomas Brown, and Santos) this year. Again, don't give me that bullshit that Bo didn't recruit LB's.

DPE argument. Really? Westerkamp is a solid fill-in guy.

What did Coach Riley say before the season, "It's not what we want to do, it's what's best to do?" Why has this not applied to the defensive side of the ball? A coach with 30 years of head coaching experience ought to have his defensive coordinator embrace that philosophy.

Agree on the DE depth.

Walk-on FB…walk-ons have always been the staple of the NU Football program.

And without Bo, the 2012 team would have been 6-6. Why? Alonzo Whaley, Cam Meredith….Bo schemed the hell out of opponents that year (other than Wisconsin in the Big 10 Championship game).

I don't live in a bubble, I know the AD job involves constant, daily and public pressure. But you are missing my point: what has so changed that suddenly he decides to give an in-season interview supporting a coach? The facts are that he hired the coach and the team is 2-3, and that he is long on record affirmatively stating he would not do what he has done now. I'm not trying to kid anyone.

Eichorst didn't feel any pressure. Bo wasn't his boy. It was only a matter of time before he fired Bo. He wanted to fire Bo after the Iowa loss, but some people stepped in. It's no secret Harvey didn't like Bo, so he hired his guy way over price to get rid of Bo. The pressure started when Eichorst had to make his hire.
