Dylan Raiola

My opinion hasn't changed on him.

He is a 5* freshman that would have benefited from a redshirt season. He can make nfl throws but also makes a lot of bad throws and you quickly remember he's a true freshman.

He looked better yesterday but that's how he should look against a 5-5 team. Next week will be a big test for him.

Every player would benefit from a redshirt. That isn't how it works. 5 stars don't come to a 5 win program to redshirt. He was always going to have to learn on the fly.

Tom was able to elevate mediocre assistants. Holgerson clearly has done wonders in 3 weeks. I believe it will be his call to make and I’m fine with that.

Frank was never really our OC and when he took over play calling when Tom retired it wasn’t great. The play caller and attention to detail by the coordinator are huge factors and I think Holgerson can make these guys better if he chooses to keep them.
I thought Frank sucked as a play caller.

If Dana has no long term plans here, i.e. another year, he may well keep these guys and work around their inadequacies. If he's serious about being here longer, then some of them will go. JMO

If you "game plan" this, I could see Matt's hesitancy in allowing Dana to do a wholesale change to the offensive assistants. Why do I say that? What if, out of the blue in another year Dana gets a chance to be head coach of a good program? Then he leaves Rhule with a houseful of assistant coaches that he didn't hand pick. And whose to say they wouldn't just follow Dana to the next school? Matt could find himself having to hire an almost all new offensive staff again.

Wiscy was probably the 3rd best defensive team NU has played this year. IF, and we'll never know, IF Dana had been here from day 1 of spring, Dylan's numbers would be outstanding. He still has the most passing yards for any true freshman QB in college football, and that's after a lousy OC was calling plays for 9 games. NU would probably be averaging 10 ppg more for the season.

Defensively, Iowa is definitely not as good as OSU. They are likely in the Indiana/Wiscy range, but I do think they will be Dylan's toughest test other than OSU. I expect NU to move the ball pretty well on Friday.

I think right now Dana has Dylan and the entire offensive unit playing with a lot of confidence.

A true dilemma, but you hope that a) DH has enough success to be attractive as a HC and b) he brought an assistant who wants full autonomy of an offense and could be promoted to OC. I imagine an OC under DH is an OC in name only.

Biggest thing is we run vertical and hit the holes with a full head of steam, as opposed to dancing around and losing yards and being behind the chains. We also stopped tipping our hand with substitutions.
Not a good endorsement for the running backs coach.

Riley also fired Banker (and banker was the far better than Diaco)
Frost is the first coach at NU to hire a character from the Harry Potter series, so there's that.

The next two games will be decided on how well DH game plans the offense he inherited AND his 5* QB. Look at the O's play from USC to Wetskis. If that rate of improvement continues the PeeBirds will be (again) throwing banana peels under KKK while proclaiming Bob Stoops will be chomping at the bit to come out of retirement to save their storied program.

It's likely this week DH will use a lot more motion, and maybe some shifts to show Iowa stuff we haven't shown in the first two games he called. It may be time for Clark to emerge and Lloyd to go vertical. DH knows we are lacking that vertical threat.

I think the Iowa game will be decided by how well we run it and stop Iowa’s run game.

i think we need more physical play in the secondary....and since Vincient Shivers is a little under sized at this point in his young career....i'd love to see the staff put in him the Secondary on running downs.....He''ll add some much needed tackling ability back there....and who knows he might replace Gifford or Singleton next year if he does well at Iowa and the Bowl game
