Dylan had a solid freshman season

12TD to 10INTs isn’t all that great. But then you factor in dropped balls, catches that turned into interceptions, and missed wide open receivers and he can turn that bad ratio into a rather great one come next season. I figure about 8 TDs were either not caught or missed receivers and 2 INTs should have been caught by our receivers. Get him some better talent and receiver coaching and he should excel!

Had to work through a new coordinator and a couple WR's who dropped sure TD's and catches that turned into interceptions in a few games. He had some true freshman mistakes on his part, but he will only get better with Dana and better WR's.
From the opening deep ball against UTEP that was dropped in the endzone, to Illinois, to Iowa, there have been at least 5 or more dropped TDs and 1 turned into an INT.

he did play well and looked the part

here were his preseason props (expectations):

Passing Yards - 2669.5
Passing TDs - 20.5
Rushing Yards - 199.5
Rushing TDs - 5.5

here's where he finished:

Passing Yards - 2,595
Passing TDs - 12
Rushing Yards - -68
Rushing TDs - 0

UNDER cashed across the board

Mostly thanks to Rhule inexplicably forcing him to play with 1 arm tied behind his back courtesy of his handpicked, disgraced former OC.

Agree Satterfield didn’t help any of these exceed expectations. With that being said, expect all betting passing numbers o/u to be noticeably higher going into 2025.

Does Rhule get any credit for replacing Satterfield ?

I gave Rhule credit for being a good Lieutenant and following the General's orders to make a change on offense.

I also discredit Rhule for being too soft to send Satt packing like he should have.

Keeping losers like Satt around helps nobody and hurts when trying to build a winning culture

To add to this I was saying the same thing to another Husker fan this morning about Raiola and how well he did

For perspective, most wax poetic about Adrian Martinez freshman year.

Well Raiola will pass Martinez in the bowl game. Martinez passed for just over 2600 yards and Raiola is just over 2500.

Raiolas season ranks in the top 10 of all time Husker passing yards and should finish at 7th after the bowl game.

Raiolas completion percentage is higher than Martinez was freshman year. 66 vs 64%.

For as bad as it was and as many drops as there were for TDs, he actually did quite well.

He has a lot of things he needs to improve and growth in front of him.

Having said that, he did well overall and can be the phenom we expected him to be. Its going to take improvement but the good news is that a lot of it is fixable.
1) if your first read is there, take it. Dont get greedy. Lost the USC game because of this very thing.
2) learn to take what the defense gives you. Similar to point 1 but he will wait for something to come open late or for receivers to adjust their routes after their initial breaks. He schoolyards it too much. Holds onto the ball. Even with Dana sometimes, he at times didnt want to hit the underneath cross dana loves because he is hoping the deeper receivers adjust their routes and get open.
3) gotta hit wide open receivers for TDs. It happened a lot. But its not because of lack of arm talent. It will come with confidence.
4) I almost wonder if dana will tell him to run more, but I could be completely wrong on this one. Hes hesitant when there are obvious opportunities and then he’s late.
5) He telegraphs RB and delayed screens too much.

Adjusting to college speed is HARD, especially for a freshman. Lets hope a year older will allow him to flourish. He certainly can be all he is billed to be.

Finally, he really is a good person. He’s everywhere. Went to state title games and even called the skutt QB after.
Im rooting for him.

Count me as not all that impressed at this point. Seemed to take his time getting the ball out, took a few to many sacks, and the intereptions/fumbles were no different than the past season QBs. Receivers caught a lot of flack for missed catches but DR also missed a lot of receivers. A lot needs to change going into next year.

We had 40% less turnovers with a true freshman QB than we had the prior year.

How did anyone think he was going to rush for any positive yardage? Between our OL and his slow twitch motor skills that wasn't going to happen.

He will never reach positive yardage as a QB at NE.

nobody had seen him play a down in college football when these props were on the board

in hindsight, all of those were easy UNDERs

I watched his film. Slow was staring us all in the face. Thinking he was going to end up with positive rushing yards was a fools gamble.

And Dylan did that in a huddle up slow paced offense that I believe ran less plays per game.

Count me in the group that wasn't all that impressed. Adrian had a much better freshman year. He didn't have the benefit of a solid defense as Dylan has. OL was actually decent for much of the year. Adrian never had even an average OL in his entire time here. I guess the point in Dylan's favor is freshman years don't count for shit, and he can get better. While Adrian regressed throughout his career here. Don't think that will happen with Dylan under Dana Holgorsen.

Great post.

While there is obviously improvement to be made, he could have a monster season next year.

Don't know what DH necessarily saw that brought him here, but having a kid like this already here, begging to be developed, had to be a huge positive to a guy with his offensive chops.

the general is soft as well he should’ve demanded change at end of 2023

Dannen (general) wasn’t here then.

Lt. Rhule was answering to a blockhead who had eliminated the last football program he was in charge of

Bottom line Adrain failed just the same his freshman season even if he had better stats. The one that counts the most

The previous general should have demanded it. and don’t whine about UNO football. There wasn’t much interest in it until it was eliminated and ever since then people wanna act all shook up about it. I for one thing they should’ve kept their program and played in the FCS level. I think they would’ve been pretty good on part with the Dakota schools now.

Trev is an empty suit with a haircut who never made a single tough choice during his time here

Dana and Rhule have been friends for years. Dana would watch our games this year and they would talk afterwards about what he thought. Dana said he was bored and Rhule asked him to come.

just quoting what Rhule said after he announced his hire. He said they've talked regularly for years.
Talked regularly and talked after every game to see what he thought are two very different things

Funny post. Made me laugh!

The talked regularly for years was in addition. Rhule in fact said that they talked after all of our games. Dana worked 2 days per week as an analyst. He had some time on his hands.

lol to those complaining about Raiola. Not saying he was a world beater, but as a true freshman, he wasn’t any worse than Adrian.

The primary difference between the two is Adrian’s legs. But DR will be the better passer by far. Anyone who watched the last three games and saw what could be under DH is fooling themselves if they think Raiola would have had the same stats on the season if DH was the OC from the start.

Go ahead and trash Raiola. This board has a way of remembering players who trash players.

Like him or not he did something no QB has done in 8 years. Get us to a bowl. Baby steps but still progress.
