Does Wisconsin win Big Ten, head to CFP in 2018?

Other than LSU back-to-back a couple years ago, looks like Barry has dialed 1-800-Creampuff for quite some time for non-conference scheduling. I see them going 10-2.

2 of 3 losses to Michigan, Penn State or Nebraska. Take your pick.

It was LSU, Alabama, then LSU up North for Wisconsin from 2014-16. Then, the BYU road-home the past two seasons.

Wisconsin has won 3 of 4, since the West was born in the Big Ten. That team from Iowa City went 12-0 to pick up the other West title. The Badgers have won 5 of 7 divisions, since Huskers brought division play to the Big Ten and we know the lone Badgers B1G title came back with the Legends and Leaders days, when the rolled the Huskers in 2012.

So, clearly for 6 other B1G teams, the #1 team in the West is Wisconsin. I would call it relevant.

In both 2015 and 2016, the Badgers lost 2 B1G games in division play. In 2014, Northwestern got them. Last year, the Badgers went 12-0 for the first time in program history.

Onward to 2018!

Ha! Good call if you are looking at Vegas (over-under is 10 O (-120).

So Vegas says, they more likely win 11, but the line isn't 10.5, so pretty even-up odds at 10-2.
Was in vegas last week; over under is 10. But Line is now -135 on under 10 (bet 135 to win 100). So bettors thinking more likely that they win 9 than 11.

A perennial also ran. Given their history, it is up to them to prove it on the field against the big boys.

Winning the Division 5 of 7 years and winning the conference twice and winning the Orange Bowl has to account for winning something of significance...

For a program that hasn’t done nothing in over a decade we shouldn’t nitpick Wisky.

Yes, the significance is that they are perennial also rans. The question is would they win the big10 and play in the cfb. When have they done that outside of teams like osu and psu being on probation since the playoffs have been around?

2011 they won the inaugural B1G CCG and it was legit.. Unlike in 2012.

The Badgers may have their best offense in a long, long time in 2018? A new TE needs to step up, with Tyler Fumagalli departed.

They lost 7 starters on defense, but last year's defense makes one question, can they simply reload their 3-4 defense under 2nd year coach Jim Leonard, whose entry into coaching is one heck of short journey and success story.

Personally, I not impressed with QB Alex Hornibrook, with 34 TDs and 22 interceptions over two seasons. He did have a solid bowl game and his WRs are stepping up nicely.

I’ve read on this board every year for years now that Wisconsin’s time is up. Their QB sucks, their receivers suck, they lost x number of defensive starters, new coaches, etc etc.

Law of averages suggest this will actually be true one of these years. holla

Who is Tyler Fumagalli?

We’ve also read they are going to win the big10 and get in the playoffs lots of times. They are a fine team and much better than the rest of the dross in the west. I’m just saying I would like them to put up or shut up and win the west AND the big10 AND get into the playoffs. Since they haven't done all those things, i am going to hold off on anointing them.

You do realize how m any good teams out there have not made the playoffs?
I'm gonna guess you didn't give them a chance in the Orange bowl either. Then after beating Miami you probably said it doesn't matter because Miami didn't care or wasn't good etc.
Wisconsin is a top ten program in college football right now. That means something.

Wisconsin has become a regular in the Top 10 program, but the Final 4, who make the CFP clearly are more exclusive club, than just the Top 10.
Great.. why dont you run over their to their bored.. or your bored and the other 6 badger fans can talk about how great you are to each other.. yes i know how to spell bored its intentional

If Wisconsin wins the Big Ten this year it would be very out of character for them.

Their 2011 title came via a rematch game win v MSU where MSU had won the previous game. Also OSU had their worse season in forever led by an interim HC and a freshman QB who was backed up by a guy named Bauserman. Hello. At least they did win 11 games (two B1G losses).

Then there was their really weird 2012 championship on a 8-6 record with OSU and PSU both on probation and right now, none of that good fortune is visibly on the horizon.

What is in character for the Badgers is to win a lot of games against a wide array of teams ranging from bad teams to some pretty good teams and then lose to every really good team they face.

Well nearly every one. They did beat a 11-3 MSU back in 2011 in that unholy rematch game. But that is the only win for Wisconsin against an eleven win Power 5 team in the last seven years.

So, Wisconsin is 1-13 vs P5 teams who recorded at least 11 wins on the season. 1-13 is a .0625 win percent. Interesting fact: .0625 is the same number (sorta) that Alabama posted against 11 win teams over the same time but without that pesky 0.

2011 - 2017 vs 11 win P5 teams:
Alabama 10-6 (.625)
Clemson 8-10 (.444)
OSU 9-6 (.563)
FSU 4-6 (.400)
OU 4-10 (.286)
Wisconsin 1-13 (.0625)

These six teams plus Boise St are the top seven winningest teams of the past seven years.

That's Wisconsin - beat everybody but the best, lose to every real good team they play.

There will not be a b10 school in the cfb playoff this year. Until Delaney evens up the schedules and foes away from 9 conf games, b10 will struggle to put a team in the playoff each yr.

Maybe after two yrs in a row missing it, they will get serious about fixing the schdeules.

Nothing but arrogance by the b10 has gotten us into this position. Lol at force the SEC or ACC to follow suit w scheduling. Talk about backfire.

No, question Paul Chryst is off to a strong start back in his hometown and at his alma mater. He is 34-7 in his first 3 seasons back home, after 19-20 at Pitt. They are 22-4 in regular B1G games.

DC Jim Leonard is back too! He is entering his 3rd season as a coach, 2nd as DC. They play a wicked 3-4.

In 2017, they won 13 straight and 9-0 in B1G for the first time in program history.

In 2016, the lost back to back games at Michigan and against Urban and Ohio State.

In 2015, both games were in Madison, but lost B1G opener to Iowa, then Northwestern finished them off prior to Gopher game, where they now have won 14 straight.

If it's not the Huskers, I hope they do win it all.

F Wisconsin! BS Cream puff schedule most years. I don’t think they’re going to win at Michigan and Penn State will be a tough game for them. No way they go undefeated this season.

A couple years ago, Wisconsin had a schedule that looked a lot like ours this year. Most people weren't giving them a chance to win the Big Ten west but they did and had a very good record.

I think Michigan wins the Big 10 championship this year. Harbaugh gets it done just when the whole world is starting to doubt if he’s able to. Just seems like the Harbaugh thing to do.

If Wisconsin @ Iowa is a night game in Kinnick, Iowa wins. If Nebraska @ Michigan gets the night game that day then Wisconsin will win.

I understand what you are saying, Iowa plays with a different edge at home.

However, after putting up a measly 60 yards of total offense against them last season, I just don’t see Iowa winning. Although Iowa has been known for getting unreal fumbles on the goal line against Wisconsin, so who knows.

Nebraska needs a sprinkle of that 2015 Iowa luck this season.

I think they do, but to be fair they have had no competition the last few years. It has been pretty easy. This year I don't think Nebraska will have the pieces together to compete. Next year I think Nebraska gets it.

Hey it wasn't our fault they couldn't hang on to that ball in 2015. They also had 71 other plays, 4 quarters and playing at Camp Randall to score a TD.

Wisconsin is the football version of Creighton basketball here.

The CornHusker give the badgers an old style butt whooping in fort Randall. Book it!

I think Michigan wins the Big 10 championship this year. Harbaugh gets it done just when the whole world is starting to doubt if he’s able to. Just seems like the Harbaugh thing to do.

As a player, his breakout season was his 5th year.

Head coaching record
Regular season:
44–19–1 (.695) (NFL)
Postseason: 5–3 (.625) (NFL)
2–3 (.400) (college)
Career: 49–22–1 (.688) (NFL)
86–38 (.694) (college)

Does he have the offensive line for a run in 2018?

Wisconsin has done a great job using the Nebraska template brought by Barry Alvarez to achieve success (except for the championships, of course).

Hopefully with Scott Frost on board, Nebraska will also use the Nebraska template to find success.

What exactly is the Nebraska template?
