Hell yes..during drives especially.
Rap music sucks during a football game.
Leave that sht to basketball.

I think OSU's band is actually a bit smaller numbers-wise, but don't hold me to that. They're all-brass and they don't have a pit section so they make a lot of noise for their size.Except osu imo is half again as big. NU marching band gets little respect from b1g which I don't like. Look at their marching band commercial. I do think the Indiana part is funny with the lip wrinkling drummer.
I LOVE the marching band. Started going to games in 5th grade in the 70s . I used to usher there and got to watch them practice before games. I'm still in line when gates open because I like watching the orchestration of putting on a game. I give to the band fund every year. I just feel band is and has been slipping unfortunately 😕

My impression (as someone who was in the CMB some time ago and still periodically does the alumni band day, as well as attending multiple games per year as a fan) is that the quality of the band is much the same as it's been for many years. I wouldn't claim to be an expert, so take that as the opinion of a somewhat-experienced amateur.
The staff and the kids in the band really appreciate the support of people like you, so thanks. Nobody's getting paid to be in the CMB, and the kids try out (and pay tuition for the credit hour) because they like band and they're the team's biggest fans around.
They are hanging out in Atlantic CityI thought The Band retired years ago….
After this quest, you should head down to Lawrence, Kansas and tell them to stop the Rock Chalk Jayhawks pregame tradition. Before you know it, every college in the country can blare out the same song from Space Jam from the loud speakers just like every generic run of the mill pro team.I tend to agree with you here. Change it up and try to do some fun things. I don't need Mr. Touchdown USA all of the time.
WTF are you talking about. It's a discussion point. I didn't say I was anti-band. I'm like a lot of people that just want a fresh approach and not a halftime show dedicated to Johan Sebastian Bach. The in game production needs a total overhaul. It's the same cuts of music. My son is a freshman and JUST made the band on Sunday. It is a whirlwind for him (and us) so far, but I am super proud and happy for him. Cant wait to watch him at the bowl game this year!I think OSU's band is actually a bit smaller numbers-wise, but don't hold me to that. Congrats to your son! It's a great experience. The feeling the night you see your name on the roster and the first band song starts while you have no idea what's happening is difficult to describe. One of the directors posts the video on social media each year and it takes me to a happy place. My son is a freshman and JUST made the band on Sunday. Tbone. Yeah, I saw the video posted yesterday, it was pretty awesome!Congrats to your son! It's a great experience. What instrument does your son play?
I wouldn't have any music later the 76 played, thats when disco turned music into the noise it is now...Personally, I would rather have rap music blasted over the PA system between every down and coordinated with some over the top graphics on all the video boards in the stadium. Make sure the ribbon is also flashing strobe-like as well.
Keeps those who are suseptible to seizures away from the games. They're usually a drag, anyway.
No they were clapping and cheering for first downs like it was a TD since they came so few and far between. What about the it's third down? I thought I was at a k-state game the first time I heard that.
The band is ok, but how about not playing the stupid music over the PA system. It is too LOUD and so much of it is worn out music. Be nice to hear the quarterback bark out the snap count and hear the audibles.Had an interesting conversation with some Husker fans in the Atlanta airport the other day. 2 out of the 3 would like to see the band no longer involved at the games. Thoughts?
How about the opposite and people get loud when the opposing team is in the huddle? Instead of letting them get to the line and audible before ramping it up.The band is ok, but how about not playing the stupid music over the PA system. I have it too!!!!!I've got a CD of the Cornhusker Marching band called Live at the Lied. Whenever I get down in June and I am missing football season, I just crank that up. I want to hear Hail Varsity after every possession!
I think the bands create an atmosphere that is part of the whole experience. It's not just a halftime show but the fight songs and even getting the fans going. I can't fathom why you'd want to lose that. The band is what separates College Football from the NFL. The fight song is the passion that the NFL can not duplicate. One of the bigger reasons why I have always liked college football more than the pros
The CMB has had the same leadership for 20+ years. They prioritize exposing the students to a variety of different genres, highlighting historical figures in music, and so on, over writing "crowd-pleasing" shows week-to-week. Generally there will be a couple of "crowd-pleaser" pop culture shows, a couple of shows focused on some musical genre or concept that is demanding of the students from a technical standpoint, and a couple of celebrations of the 100th anniversary of some old composer, a famous musical era, or something like that. Then you have a patriotic halftime show each year to round it out. People can agree or disagree with that philosophy. I would say they also emphasize the quality of the musical performance over flashy visuals (whether that be precision formations like you might see from Texas A&M or the moving pictures OSU is famous for). Again, you can agree or disagree with that.
This isn't really accurate. Nebraska and OSUs bands are similar to most college bands (leaving aside HBCU-style show bands and military-styled bands such as the aforementioned aTm) in maintaining a relatively static pregame show year-to-year and then developing a new halftime show for each home game. OSU's band is rightly famous for their visuals. The CMB won't do stuff like that except rarely given the philosophies I noted earlier.
Robbie Robertson just passed away in the last couple weeksI thought The Band retired years ago….
What I am talking about is that those songs have tradition. When I think Husker home games I think of the Huskers kicking ass, the smell of hot dogs and Runzas in the air, and the trumpet section playing the same familiar songs before the start of every home game. That's tradition to me. A fresh approach is what losing programs with half filled bleachers try. That's my opinion in this discussion.WTF are you talking about. It's a discussion point. I didn't say I was anti-band. I'm like a lot of people that just want a fresh approach
You haven’t felt that at an NU game for some time when you start with Huskers kicking ass. Like I said, I’m all for the band, just spruce things up. I would be all for changing up the multimedia stuff. In fact and I've said this for years now, I would be fine with taking away the Tunnel Walk. Put it on hiatus for a year or two. Then when the team is back to playing real Husker football surprise the fans with a return of the Tunnel Walk. The in game production needs a total overhaul. It's the same cuts of music. You're right about that. What's going on in Memorial Stadium the last several years is akin to ancient Rome when the empire was crumbling but I won't digress. I guess we just disagree about songs that the band is playing. So much of college football tradition seems to be getting stripped away, I think the traditional Husker pregame songs are much like the Buckeye band to dot the "i" in Ohio or any other tradition. You haven’t felt that at an NU game for some time when you start with Huskers kicking ass. Like I said, I’m all for the band, just spruce things up. GBR
Robbie Robertson just passed away in the last couple weeks
Levon left us some time ago
Both forayed into movies after the Band broke up. Levon as an actor and Robbie doing composition for Scorsese.
May their lifelong blood feud continue with zeal in the afterlife
All-time legendary group
Sure I yell my head off when the opponent’s Qb goes up to the line, but I don’t need ACDC playing at 200 decibels to do that. How about the opposite and people get loud when the opposing team is in the huddle? Instead of letting them get to the line and audible before ramping it up.
