So with Porcher decommitting and G.Thomas visiting Maryland - can anyone please tell me that a blue blood program can land a couple guys with the "want to" and physical traits for a position of dire need?

Any of these young guns see the depth chart and understand they would be working under the tutelage of a former all-American, NFL'er and Pro-Bowler?

Boggles the mind...........

Recruit athletes and coach them up.

If we have good coaches one of the young DEs will step up.

We are not the only school recruiting these kids.......Hell Minnesota, Indiana, Purdue, Illinois have better pass rushers than we do.....So if they don't contribute. I put it on the coaches as much as the players.

Otherwise get them off the team......we need to quit having expectations of a big time program if we are not going to make the efforts that a big-time program needs to make to win big.

We haven't won a conference title since 1999. That's embarrassing for a blue blood program.

Parella may indeed be a great, great coach > but being a great player does not necessarily translate into being a great coach or recruiter

Parella's COACHING and RECRUITING resume was as thin as they come ... it is a big gamble ... one in which we all hope pays off

Magic Johnson was a shitty basketball coach, so was Isiah Thomas

Texas could not recruit DEs under Strong either. They are the prime position along with CBs as per Urban Meyer.

I'm to the point I'm just hoping guys like Neil Smith, Mike Croel, Donta Jones, Dwayne Harris, Grant Wistrom, Jared Tomich, Mike Rucker etc, Kyle Van den Bosch, etc, have some sons hitting high school soon.

I have not done a bunch of research but I see Wisconsin has a juco DE from Iowa western committed. 4 stars. Anyone know if we had any interest??

You only take a JUCO if you think he's better than what you have. They've seen him. The other factor is scholarship distribution for each position. Taking a 2 year guy might leave you in a bind two years from now.

Sooner or later we need to start doing that....I'd rather have a juco than a 5 year non contributor.
Well that is true but from listening to Foreman today, I think we have some young redshirt guys that might surprise us. It also sounds as if one of the Davis twins might play DE if we get the 5 star DT.

I'm excited about this defense next year........I think they can be really good. Experience is big in this day and age of football.

Texas has only won 2 since 1996. That isn't that good either.

I get, but at the same time, don't get some of the hand wringing over DE. I don't like the DE production now, but there was no one "in the bag" in this class that we had was going to fix that in the near term. We're swapping a 4* developmental guy for another one who will probably be a 3*. In 2 years, we may not even know the difference between the 5.6 and 5.7 or whatever it is, and they get into an actual D1 program.

The bigger deal to me, is the fact that all of a sudden, three NU DL targets (2 commits and one expected commit in Daniels) are playing looky loo. Especially bad that its last minute. That's a bit bigger hurdle to overcome, but all those ships haven't sailed yet, so we can hope Parella soothes some souls before the wedding.

Don't worry too much Husker fans, it even happens to teams that have made the playoffs...

How many of those guys weighed more than 220 pounds when they were recruited?

We need to go back to recruiting edge rushers with explosiveness. Sometimes that means recruiting linebackers and converting them to defensive end.
