Nebraska offensive lineman Knevel tops CFL Scouting Bureau's top-20 list

The Canadian Press

TORONTO — Nebraska offensive lineman David Knevel opens the season as the CFL Scouting Bureau’s top-ranked prospect for the league’s 2018 draft.

The six-foot-nine, 315-pound native of Brampton, Ont., secured the top spot in the organization’s top-20 list Wednesday. He was an academic All-Big Ten selection last season.

I thought he looked good in the spring game. I think the talent and the work ethic is there. Last year as a first-year starter and then with injuries that robbed him of any mobility, that was a bad look for him. He wasn't any good at all. I'm excited to see him this year though. IMO an NFL future is not out of the question for him. He just hasn't proved anything yet, but I'm hoping for a big season out of him.

1st round OT's are freaks. I think the last one we had was Weigert. The last recruit that seemed like he had that kind of talent (to me) was probably Tyler Moore.

I mean I think if some the recent OL grads from Nebraska can be starting/playing with an NFL team he will definitely make a roster in the NFL. Guys like Reeves never blew me away and he's doing well in Minnesota.

why? No strength, too slow?

I'm sure he can play better than last year, but he doesn't have the kind of athleticism to be a first round OT.

Athletically, he's certainly talented enough to play in the NFL. But his tenacity, aggression, hand placement, and "punch" is what sets him back. Knevel actually has excellent feet and flexibility. The NFL will give him every chance to earn a draft slot.

But he has to do 2 things:

1. Stay healthy.
2. Prove that he can manufacture some hostility and be willing to inflict pain, especially in the run game when he reaches the second level.

Sirles you mean? Also Qvale with the NY Jets, he hardly played here and now he is maybe a starter in the NFL. We had a gem in Javario Burkes (was that his name), but he had a heart issue (?) of some sort and couldn't play after his true freshman year (having a few starts at the end of the 2007 season).

Reeves doesn't play football anymore.

Sure he could make a roster, but the original question wcc2 asked was if he could be a 1st Round pick. Do you think he has that kind of talent?

Yes, my bad.

It works the other way too.... become too hostile and you can drop out of the first round. Richie Incognito best example
