Cutting the roster to 105

So in your world, disagreeing with how we handle NIL and roster management is “toeing the company line”. OK.

True. Honestly imo those guys need to move on. Yes there's a couple you always would like to keep but we've got to purge the troops and I would rather have young talent

Perhaps, but with a 105 cap and Parker and Booth coming in, I’ll say the chances are close to nil.
RBs don’t generally take 3 years to develop. Wouldn’t surprise me to see Ervin leave in the portal either.

Gotta start thinking about poaching a good transfer, i.e. one that has actually put up good numbers somewhere and has film of making guys miss and housing a few td's. Having a room full of guys that haven't done shit in 2 years ain't cutting it.

This is going to cost hundreds of kids the chance to have college paid for by NIL support. There's going to be a lot of high schoolers who would have had a shot at a scholarship at the D2 level to end up at lower levels as those D1 kids flood FCS and D2 programs.

I'm guessing coaches are going to push even harder for hs seniors to come in January if they're going to be counted in the 105 cap. Will redshirt count towards the cap? Gonna be hard to know the traditional incoming freshman's worth if only here for a couple weeks.

G5 like Ohio and N. Illinois type the will have walkons because they can’t afford 105 scholarships.

Also, schools can give scholarships to all 105 players going forward. Those grants can be partial (think baseball) or a rich school can now give all 105 kids a full ride if they choose to do so. The rich get richer

I was telling a buddy the other day I wish we could purge all the covid players completely before starting the 105. There's going to be a ton of good talent winding up at d2 and naia because there won't be room for them. And a bunch of high school kids that are playing their last game this month because there won't be room at Doane hastings or Concordia.

I'd commit a couple low staffer to simply scour these and community colleges more than we currently do. I think there's going to be 2-6 a year worth taking a chance on rather than D1 recyclers

But if there is money set aside for full or partial scholly, what is full scholarship valued at? Do the state schools get to award in state tuition amounts for in state players on the roster?
If so, the private schools are at a disadvantage. Also, the state schools with the most in state talent would have a big advantage, like state schools in California, Texas, Georgia, Ohio, Florida, etc
Hope all these details are worked out fairly, which I am sure they won’t be

I know most people here are sympathetic to those getting cut but we are now officially AAA pro football. Rhule himself has mentioned several times that his own (walk-on) college football experience would have had a much worse outcome under these rules.

We have some freshmen kids of former players on the roster now and they’re likely going to be starters for us within 2 years. One will be our punter. One probably a safety. One a WR. Don’t piss on legacy recruits. Oh yeah, there’s a linemen too who is going to play.

It would make more sense to say it has to be 105 in 4 years and any current walk ons are allowed to finish 4 years since they committed to these schools over other opportunities not knowing this was gping to happen.

I am normally pretty empathetic but there are 858 colleges that provide college football. And the culture is not to go to a school for the schooling but the football. I always feel worse for kids who can't get into specific academic programs in their desired field. From a healthy human being perspective, it would be much better for almost every husker to go to a smaller school, play to win, and get a better education and move on with life. Of the last 1000 former husker football players, how many of them made a single dollar playing pro football? Power 4, college football rosters needs to be cut WAY down and the quality of play will be improved, as will prep for the NFL. Always can poach all-stars from lower divisions like farm teams if you need depth. Bringing in an undeveloped 17 year old who has been committed since they were 15 in an automatic transfer era with massive rosters is really dumb.

This might be an ok thing for some of these walkon's that gave up a scholly somewhere else to simply be a Husker or Sooner or whatever. Go get your school paid for and have a chance to really contribute at a level that is suitable for you. The whole clinging to what use to be is silly.

We had a RB a few years back that walked on. Worked out for him from a job/connection standpoint but he could have been a really good D2 player. Lots of kids miss opportunities chasing a dream that only works out for a small % of kids.

What does this have to do with the nfl?

You do realize some play college football to….play college football.

Also, many opportunities these kids had to go elsewhere are gone because they signed on here, you cant just go anywhere you want now. Plus this will trickle down.

We can argue what the apprpriate roster size should be, and there are certainly good points to be had about lower than we currently have or keep itmhigh, etc

But thats not the problem right now. Its a ton of kids who are going to be screwed.

You broke news on that exact thing in the past, so I assumed you were supportive of giving NIL to walk-ons. My bad if that isn't the case. I was one of the only ones on this board actually critiquing our use of NIL funds placing too much emphasis on walk-on players, specifically that the amounts given to individual players was too high. And at the time, I was ridiculed for that position. I don't recall you making similar critiques at the time. In fact, you liked a post with the opposite opinion. If you can provide evidence of your disagreement with our handling of NIL and roster management, then I'd love to see it.

We are the only program in the nation that has well over 150 players on the roster.

The average SEC team has 121. Alabama has the most in the SEC with 137.

So, in digging further, 97 are on the list but Coleman and Syncere are gone… so 95. Then, take out seniors and it’s now 78. We have 20 commits and potentially another few so let’s call it 24 just in case. 78 and 24 make 102, three guys (net) from the portal make it 105.

Ok, we do have room. Still, some of these guys need to move on so we can take more portal guys. I would love to see 2 OL. 2 WR, 1 LB, 2 CB from the portal

and at least 2 qb's. quick blinkers preferably
